I like leather collars for my dogs.  We have this one for Louie, which he just grew into this week:

Mac has a plain black leather one, but I ordered him a new one that should be in any day.  Bella still has a cheap one from Walmart.

I'm going to start making my own soon, just as a hobby and maybe sell them if I get any good at the leather-working.

Here are a few good sites to look at collars:

Hope this helps!!!

Wish I had room for him!  Would love to have one.  I'll ask around and try to find a good home for him.

Does Merlin really fetch socks off the ceiling fan?!?!  WOW!   "prefers to be naked".   His page cracked me up.

I post on dogster a lot, also.

Thank everyone.

Thank you!  Keep in touch anytime.  You've got some nice dogs too.  It's nice to talk to people who are just as nuts about their dogs as I am....makes me feel not-so-weird.

I love seeing pics of people with their pets.  Here is a fairly recent pic of me and my 6.5 month dogue de bordeaux, Louie,  AKA  Lazy Lou.

Please add pics of you and your dog here!!!

Wow, quite a rant going on, and I'll just add to it.  People are stupid.  I'm a correctional officer so I can attest to just how stupid many can be....

The more people I meet, the more I love my dogs.  Ha!  Very true.

We have 2 dogue de bordeaux PUPPIES and a 3 year old boxer.  I've had police at my house on several occasions with reports of "3 pit-bulls running loose".  Pits are banned in my area.  I have to inform them that I have never owned a pit and that I would not let my $1500 puppies "run loose in the neighborhood".  DUH!!!

They are all three the sweetest dogs.  My bordeaux's will bark at strangers, but as soon as they are introduced they give them a big, drooly kiss whether they want one or not!! Ha!

Thanks to all of you sharing your feelings about a subject I get very upset about.  You all have some great looking dogs, too!

Ranger is beautiful.  I love large dogs and really considered a swissy, but ended up with a dogue instead (two of them, plus the boxer we already had).

You mentioned the raw diet.  I also do a partial raw diet where I give them raw in the morning and kibble at night.  Yes, the raw meat at first will make them have runny poop, but it will go away.  If you limit the amount of fat and skin it helps a lot.  Mine do really well with chicken, and I can get quarters for .43/lb at wally-world.  Since I have started this my 3 dogs are more energetic and have much better teeth (my 3/yo boxer had quite a bit of yellow and now has just a small speck left on one tooth).  I am not a "fanatic" or else I would be doing completely raw, but I do feel following natures course is the right way.  I also give fish oil for healthy skin, coat, and heart.

I don't feed any veggies or fruits, other than occasional small amount of table scraps.  I follow the "prey model" diet and believe dogs in the wild would not be eating much corn, carrots, or potatoes.

Hope this may help a bit.  Any questions email me at jamydotjohnson@usdotarmydotmil   (spelled out).

LOVE YOUR DOG!!!!

Rare Breed Mastiff Pictures / More Swimming dogues!
« on: July 09, 2006, 12:14:22 am »
Here are my DDB's swimming.  In this pic Bella is 3 months and Louie is 5 months.  They *love* the water already.  Bella can almost outswim my 3 y/o boxer, Mac.  Louie most just wades and swims short distances.

I have two.  A 6.5 month old name Louie and a 4 month old named Bella.  They are the BEST pups, and are great with kids and people (although they do bark and are wary of strangers until introduced).  Email jamydotjohnson@usdotarmydotmil for as much correspondence or pics that you want!

This may be a bit on the small side for 1 yr, but I wouldn't stress out.  He still has a LOT of time to grow.  DDB's really don't quit filling out until around 3yrs most of the time.

I have a 6.5 month DDB and worry about the same thing all the time (because I want a BIG dogue, otherwise why get a mastiff?).  He is 73 lbs and I've read so many people online who have "100 lbs at 8 months) or "90 lbs at 7 months" and I wonder if Louie is going to be small.  I think he'll be fine, and the bottom line is he is a beautiful, healthy dog.

Remember also, DDB's should be ATHLETES FIRST, large second.  I'd rather have a 135 lb athletic dogue that can run, jump, and such, than a fat 165 lb dogue that just lays around but I can say "Hey I've got a 165 lb DDB!".  Think about it.

Hope this helps.
