Breeding Questions & Information / yeee haawww
« on: August 24, 2006, 04:43:18 pm »
She's in heat, she's in heat :-)

I sent one of my girls off to get bred and she's in heat. They should be breeding her in less than 2 weeks.

Daddy is a group placing AKC/UKC Champion and OFA'd.

Mommy dearest is OFA'ed and a TT from www.atts.org. She's out of one of the last litters of her famous father so we've been carefully watching her develop, hoping she'd work out. Took her a bit to "grow up" but we're pleased with what we have.

There are well known families in the breed on both sides of the family tree. The two families have been bred together before in Europe with good results, so here's hoping it holds true.

Photo is of her at about 9 months of age, waaay before she matured.

Of course- pass it on. As I said I don't usually do political posts but this one was funny, true, intriguing and worth sharing. I'm sure he wrote it to make people think. To do that, they have to read it :-)

OK- after you read it....read my next post before making any comments.

OK- now that you've read it, and if I can take up enough room so you don't see the explanation before you read the blog...

It is not true- yet. I usually hate political posts, but this one I'm actually passing on. The author works with some of the pit bull breed bans. He wanted more people to feel and hopefully understand what a breed ban means.

Great Dane Discussions / Re: WOO HOOO; HE'S HOME!!!

What transport compnay did you use? I'm trying to help a big dog get from Greenville, SC to the west coast (or even just to Delaware). We're having so many problems; the time of year, the size crate (700) and the closest airport is small so it's been almost impossible.

OK- I know this sounds funny- but keep a can of room temperature COKE (name brand) on hand. If her tube gets clogged, Coke actually helps unplug it! Works better than just plain warm water. Put a couple ccs in the tube, let it sit for a few minutes, then repeat until it dissolves the yuck. Even if you always flush with room temp water after feeding it still sometimes gets clogged.

Ask the vets too about the Feline pheromone stuff- for most cats it seems to calm them a bit and they seem to heal (and tolerate all the junk we do to them) better.

I've used toys from Helping Udders http://www.helpingudders.com/Shop.htm

But- the ones I've gotten (tugs) were toys to play WITH the dog, not really to let the dog entertain itself. They have lasted though and my dogs tend to either rip toys to shreds or savor them for years.

Sorry- I should have written which Karen :-) I forgot there were two Karens involved with Fame.

Karen Bruneau- Fame's handler for most of his big wins, is showing a Pyr bitch. I think Glory is a younger half sister to Fame. She's an awesome looking girl and loves showing to boot. Here's the win photo http://phodography.net/rdf06-2/pyre%20bis%20sunday.jpg

I just play with the BigWhiteHairyD ogs- I don't have any so I may not be up on it all.

It is so funny that when I watch "Fame" on TV at the garden. (Oh, I just love that show talk "at the garden") ;) I told my hubby I want one of his pups one day. Lisa

Karen, Fame's handler, is showing a new Pyr bitch. I saw her get a Group 2 at last Saturday's show in California. I missed her get getting BIS on Sunday :-( I did so want to see her win a BIS instead of just hearing about it.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Woo hooo- Fina got her TT
« on: August 05, 2006, 08:18:46 pm »
Well- they are a fairly rare so it would be very easy for someone not to recognize the breed. They were just accepted into AKC a few years ago. They are easily mistaken for a Bouvier or Giant Schnauzer with natural ears. Or in the case of Genji, my girl from Finland, she still has her tail so she looks like a very large (and not very correct) Portugese Water Dog.

I tend to shorten the name to Black Russian but it really is Black Russian Terrier (or shortened even further to BRaT).

Phew- I'm a bit slow with bulletin boards so you may have to be patient. But I think Ive got Beowulf up for my avatar. My first BRaT- now 12 years old. Still lives for toys- what's that about boys and their toys?

And to get back to the subject of the orginal post, Yes- he's the first Black Russian to get a TT.
