Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Help, Louis got bitten
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:48:34 am »
Thanks Everyone

I cleaned it with dettol, Im in the UK and not sure what Neosporin is, so the dettol is an antiseptic that is for humans, I have just kept i clean and dry and up to now seems perfectly fine and seems to be healing up, I think all the blood made it look worse than it actually was, and they seem to be back to playing nice together thank goodness :) :)

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Help, Louis got bitten
« on: February 20, 2007, 01:49:15 pm »
Hi

I dont post here often but was hoping someone could help me out, Louis was playing with my other dog Bella (a staffy) and they play really well togehter usually but I dont know what happened but they ended up fighting, I jumped in stright away, and stopped it, and seperated them, and when I turned round there was blood all over the floor and Louis was bleeding, I cleaned him up with just clean water and he seems to have a bite on the side of his face/neck on his flobery bit, it bled a lot but it has stopped now, and he seems OK, he wont let me look at it properly so I am guessing it is sore, but I am wondering what I should do, should I put something on it?? I can take him to the vets in the morning but they are shut now, does anyone have any advice on this, I am so cross I let them play for so long that they got into a fight, I guess i will know better in future, bella is getting old and she must have run out of paitence with him. :( :( :(  I know sometimes dog bites cause infection, what should I be looking out for.

Thanks

Hiya

Im in the UK also, Arnold (the dogue with epilepsy) isnt with us any more we had tohave him put to sleep before Christmas as it got really bad, but I was told it is not common to the breed, so it didnt put us off another one, as he was a great dog, it was very sad he was only 6.  Im keeping my eye on my new one as he loves his food, he is only about 18 weeks at the moment and 3 stone so will have to watch he dosnt get fat  :o

Hi there

You coudd always see arnolds ribs lightly through his coat and people used to tell us he was to thin, that he should be "massive" etc, but our vet always said he was a perfect weight and if it wasnt for his epilepsy he was in great physical health, with no joint or bone problems so its not always best to let them get to big :)

Rare Breed Mastiff Discussions / Re: Seizures In Dogue de Bordeaux
« on: January 31, 2007, 09:51:09 am »
Hi there

We had a dogue with epilepsy, he started at 3 years, he went without medication for another 12 months then started to have them more regularly (grand mal) so was put on phenobarb this kept him OK for another 12 months, with only a few seizures, then they started to come every week again in clusters, so his medication was upped and he was also put on bromide, things sadly over the next 12 months went downhill from there, I dont want to scare you as hopefully this wont be the case for your dogue, but Arnold continued to get worse and worse, sometimes having up to 18 seziures in 24 hours, in the last couple of weeks he was on the maximum amount of meds and it was still happening and he was starting to suffer brain damage, so we had to do what was best for him and on the advice of the vet we had to have him put to sleep, it was the hardest decision but the best for him as he had started to suffer, our vet did say though that this was not common and most dogs respond well to treatment and can live a long and happy life, we were just unlucky, I hope that your dog is OK i just thought I would let you know that I do know what you are going thorough.

Our DDB, who is no longer with us, was about 140lbs fully grown, our vet said it was better to keep them on the slimmer side so his weight sounds fine to me :)

Hi

I have a DDB he is only 16 weeks old, we lost our other DDB before CHristmas to a severe from of epilepsy when he was only 6, I was totally devastated, and miss him terribly.  Our house was so empty and our staffie (and us was missing him so much we got another and his name is Louis, they are a fantastic breed, and very very loving I will try to post some pics of Louis pronounced Looey (as in the King of France as he is a French Mastiff :) :)

He is already turning into a great Dogue

I will find some more later :)

Nice to find some other owners :)

We are from the UK :) :) where the breed seems to be coming more popular.
