Bills & Other Legislative Acts / Re: Breed restrictions!!!!!

As the owner ofa rottie that thinks that she is a lap dog I say AMEN to all of you. It is sooooo frustrating when people think that your dog is vicious just because of its breed. My Peyton hides behind the chair when our spinger/lab mix barks, she rolls over onto her back and occasionally pees on herself when she is around little dogs, and she sits patiently when she is around little kids.

I totally believe in the good citizen testing. I am researching it in my area to try to get lisenced to teach the class myself.

I have found that using Bitter Apple spray when the puppies nip works really well. I kept a really small spray bottle in my pocket or close to wherever I was and when Peyton would nip me I would give her a little shot of Bitter Apple. She stopped after a few sprays of it.

I have heard of bloat from drinking too much water. A friends rottie had that problem and they used to only give her so much water at a time and then a little while later give her more. Just so she isn't drinking the whole bucket in one shot. I have always used ice cubes in my dogs water. They like to eat them sometimes and seems to help them cool off a little. I have never had a long haired dog though so other than the things that I hear from my clients at work and friends I really dont know how to deal with keeping them cool

Way to go Rambo.

Thanks for the compliment on my rottie too.

I work for a grooming salon and the dogs that give me the most problems believe it or not are golden retrievers and labs, on top of the little dogs. I often wonder what my Peyton would do if someone tried doing something to me. But really dont want to find out.

I just think it is soooo funny that people on the street will not walk past her and I when we are walking but if they only knew that she hides behind the recliner when our other dog barks. LOL

Just thought that I would add a pic of my best friends Dobes. They are wonderful dogs. I think it is so funny when my friend and i take his 2 dobes and my rottie pup for walks. People will cross to the other side of the street before they will walk by us. They dont have to know that our dogs are some of the biggest babies ever. My friend recently started fostering for the illinois doberman rescue so I will more than likely have more pics to share in the future.

Rottweiler Discussions / Vicious Dogs.........Ha yeah right

Just wanted to know how many of the other rottie owners here have noticed how Vicious the breed is (note the sarcasm).
Peyton lives with my boyfriends springer spaniel lab mix. He is a year old and she is 6 months old. When he barks, she hides behind the recliner and peaks out every so often as if to ask if the coast is clear for her to come out. I have a bird feeder that hangs just outside my front windows and when the shades are open and there are birds at the feeder. she hides behind the recliner.
I took her to meet the soon to be new addition to our house, a yorkie min pin pup (2 and a half pounds of puppy) and she was scared of it.

Killer dog huh?? Good thing I wasn't looking for personal protection.

I have crate trained Peyton and now that she is 100% potty trained i was going to take the crate away and let her be free. WRONG IDEA. She is attatched to her crate. Which isn't a bad thing really. At least I know that she is safe from trouble while I am at work. She goes in there whenever she is tired or if she thinks that she is in trouble. I never have used her crate as punishment though. Its like her private cave. The other dog in our household isn't allowed in there and other than to clean it I leave it alone so she thinks that it is hers and hers alone.

I am a dog groomer and although I live in wisconsin we do have a lot of people that shave thier dogs down in the summer time. I have a few Saints and one Newfie that come in in the early spring for a shave down and by the time fall sets in and the weather cools off they have thier coat back. 2 of my saint people have commented that the coats dont grow back as thick. But they have said that since it doesn't grow back as thick its easier to care for.
Now my newfie's mom said that the coats quality wasn't near as well when it grew back and it was not as thick. SO I would have to say that unless your dog is only a companion dog, dont shave the whole dog. Belly shaves are very popular. They do help the dog to cool down since they can reach the cool floors with their skin.

Hope I helped.

I definately see the pit and the dane but I wonder if he doesn't have a little shepard in him since you said that he barks alot. I have heard that shepards are very vocal dogs. ANd the ears look almost shepard like. Could be wrong. Just an opinion

« on: April 08, 2005, 01:02:28 am »
Although my newest addition to my household doesn't fit into the big paws catagory, I just thought that i would add his name here and the way that i decided on it. I named my yorkie/min pin Memphis. Not after the town. After Nic Cage in Gone in 60 seconds. Its my favorite movie and he is like a little rocket when he goes somewhere. I thought it was original and pretty cool.

I work for a grooming salon in a nationwide pet store and you would be amazed at how many dogs come in with the same ol same ol names. Yesterday, we had 3 golden retrievers all named Lucky. The day before 2 black labs named Buddy. ANd a week ago 2 chocolate labs named Lady.

I often times want to ask people why they didn't sit for 10 minutes longer and think of something original.

I dont have the greyhound rescue info on hand at this moment since something is up with my computer and will only let me open one thing at a time, but there are a few different rescues in Wisconsin that service wisconsin, iowa, minnesota, and illinois. they can be found on petfinder.com

I can't believe how the face of that pup reminds me of my Peyton. Glad to hear that she is going somewhere where she can find a good loving home. She deserves it.
