Hey henrysmomma,

That's really disheartening to hear, regarding the ICCF and the CCC, since we're such a small breed representation . Well, never the less, there's hope. Here are some breeders that I know are very reputable and knowledgeful.

1. California Cane Corso, Bob and Leilani Sauza, www.california canecorso.com, they are the American contact for Morgan Cane Corso in Italy also they have their own breeding program.
2. Burgwald's Kennels, Mike Burgwald, http://www.burgwaldkennel.com/ , he's a wonderful guy and breeder, if Mike cannot help you, he knows enough to point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you need my help, my name is Courtney. ;) :D

Cane Corso Discussions & Pictures / Re: Any Cane Corso owners out there??

In that picture, yes he's not as huge as they can get. BUT, that was a year ago and now, thanks to smoked ham hocks and good puppy food, he's put on weight!  :)
I still agree that some of the huge lines of CC's are too huge, but Max is now at 105lb and that's as big as I want him.

Do you have any current pics of Orion?

Hi dogsrbetrpeopl e,

Just because you're in Canada doesn't mean you'll have bad luck! There are alot of good breeders up there. I would start out with FCI organization, they may have a breeders guild to point you in the right direction. Up in Canada, there's the Canadian Cane Corso Club, http://www.canadiancanecorso.ca/   you might want to try that also. I have a 2 year old Corso that came in from Italy ( Morgan Cane Corso), through California Cane Corso. Here in the states, we have the ICCF www.canecorso. org  that has a breeders guild as well.

FYI- Between the two organizations, ICCF and CCC, there's a lot of back and forth regarding the standard of the breed and which is best. In the Corso's you have Italian lines and American lines, both are beautiful and both will give you want you're looking for, but Americans love their dogs big and that's what you'll get. I've found that the Italian lines are more refined and smaller than the American Breeds.

If you need any help, please feel free to email me at msbrookins@hotmail.com

Good Luck! :)

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Dad is off to Iraq and I need a home....
« on: August 29, 2005, 02:05:11 pm »
Hello.

I live in Federal Way, WA and I need to place a Pit Bull Puppy. Ghotti is 5 months, in tack, loving, hyper, and obedient. I currently have a Cane Corso Mastiff but cannot take care of the both of them.  :(
Ghotti's Dad is being deployed to Iraq at the end of September and I'd like to place him in a loving home.
Since I have some time to work with, Ghotti's adoption will be very thorough, i.e. references, housing acceptace check, etc.

If anyone knows of anybody that is looking for a wonderful Pit puppy, please forward on my email address.....

PS-he's a brown brindle with a white patch on his chest. He's not the dog in my profile pic..that's my Cane Corso Mastiff.

email address: msbrookins@hotmail.com

Thank you for all your help! ;)

Rare Breed Mastiff Discussions / Re: Anyone Own a Rare Breed Mastiff ?
« on: August 25, 2005, 10:18:41 am »
Very sad story that I hear on a constant basis. Well, if the dog was from champion lines...hopefu lly they got papers on the dog which will make it a lot easier to sell....?????-I know that's wishful thinking :-\
Here in Seattle, WA...it's starting to become more and more common for people to recognize my Corso, even more common for offers to breed him to Pit Bulls.
I think the only thing to do to help dog lovers/buyes out there, is to let them know that buying a dog is like buying a car. You just don't buy the first one you see.... You check it over, you check around to see what else is out there, you make sure it fits in your budget, you make sure that it's everything that you want.....etc.
Hopefully there will be a happy ending for the Pet Store Mastiff.

Unfortunately,

I have to agree that way TOOO many pet stores are popping up with rare Mastiffs. It's been a practice of mine to always contact the petstore and find out who supplied the dogs, that way I can post it all over that they're an unethical breeder. No ethical breeder in their right mind would agree to sell their dogs in a pet store! That alone shows you that the breeder has no concern about where/who their dogs end up-very sad!
My Corso is from Morgan Cane Corso in Italy and we stay in contact constantly directly and through his US contact, California Cane Corso. It's almost to the point that I really wish that the Cane Corso not ever be recognized be the AKC because once it does...all h*ll is going to break loose!! >:( :o

That's a good idea to talk with the breeder. All lines in breeding grow at different rates. Also, it all depends on what breed your Mastiff is. I do know that Science Diet isn't a very good dog food but is pushed heavily by vets because they make a portion of the sales. I have a Cane Corso Mastiff and through my research of food Canidae, Evo, Royal Canine, BARF are very good dog foods.
My Corso's line is a slow to mature line. Right now, Max is 2 years old and weighs just under 100lbs, a little small for the male standard; but, if you do the rib test, he's perfect.
In my opinion, I would call the breeder about your dog's line maturity, and also get your dog off of Science Diet.

Corso's are a protection breed. Meaning, it's in their nature to be weary of strangers, but not afraid. They are very loyal to their owners, including the children, and don't hesitate to step in front of trouble.
Max, my Corso, is very quiet in the house, so most don't know that he's there. He won't make himself known until he hears someone outside the door or something that he doesn't like.
As far as protection, I cannot wrestle with my boyfriend in front of him because he has misinterpreted our playing for something serious and lunged at him to protect me.
Other than that, they are just like other dogs...loving, wonderful personality, easy to train (taught Max to speak with twinkies and slim jims), playful, can be lazy, and the biggest child that you'd thought you'd ever have-considering they want to be lap dogs!  ;)

Thank you. Max likes to keep a athletic build to him, but I'm winning the war of the weight and he's actually put on about 10 wonderful pounds now. His father was a blonde and mother was a black. Max and his brother are the only littermates here in the US.
