We call Kiya "the million kisses girl". Even her breeder made note of that before we got her.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: The Dog Whisperer

Hi everyone, been very busy but I have to jump in on this topic. I just finished reading Ceasars book The Dog Whisperer. I've watched a few of his shows. I like his ideas. Our daily routine begins with us going out on the trail. I didn't realize how important the exercise factor is. I have not seen him wrestle a dog into submission but he does NOT believe in "hitting" a dog. I also read the article in Newsday about those lawsuits. In my opinion anyone who can get 30 or so dogs, mostly Pitbulls or other "labeled" breeds to get along in close quarters like that must have some clue of what he is doing.

The vet sent home rimadyl with him for pain....have you ever heard of that before?  I've given the Newfs rimadyl for occasional arthritis or orthopedic surgery but never for spaying pain.

Hi there, Kiya was just spayed the 16th & she was given Rimadyl for pain too, for 4 days. Hope he feels better soon, Kiya is doing very good & they also removed her hernia.

Good luck! Kiya will be spayed this thursday, because of her siezure history, the vet wants her to go home the same day. Yes its the after care Im worried about as well. Just getting her in & out of the truck. Oh boy. Im sure we'll both do fine.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Kiya seizure update
« on: February 06, 2006, 11:05:53 am »
Hi there, actually Kiya's been on a combo of pheno & pb since the begining. Were going to the vets tonight to have blood drawn. I was on the sites they are very helpfull. I didn't panic, kept my cool. Worst thing is now I find myself jumping up to look at her, all night. Went out on the bicycle yesterday & this morning, she seemed more "lathargic" then usual. We took it easy. We almost made 3 months I guess the count starts over again, so much for "enviromental causes".

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Kiya seizure update
« on: February 04, 2006, 07:03:01 pm »
Hi everyone. Im very sad to say, Kiya had a siezure this morning around 6am. Everything seemed to be fine & I was hoping  we would be reducing the dose of phenobarbitol soon. I'll keep an eye on her & Im calling the vet tomorrow, we'll have blood drawn to check her levels. Im so disheartened. My poor girl. I think the drugs helped her, the seizure didn't seem as violent & long as the first time. She didn't pee on herself it took about a half hour for her to really calm down.
Oh well. We'll take one day at a time & do all the fun things we do & be happy.

All of mime howl, if they don't on thier own..hubby will teach them. Anyone walking by my house would think were crazy. Billy loves to start them up & if ya cant beat them..join them.

When I lost my beloved Cheyenne 3 years ago, my husband kept saying wait, he needed time. A week later I was on the phone (for hours) found Apache & had to wait about about 5 weeks. There was such a gloom & emptiness in our house. Finally we brought Apache home 2/8/03 & the rest is history.

I got rollerblades, used them maybe 2x's, once without knee/arm pads, the second time with the pads...oh my God I fell a few times & there they sit in the basement. That definately is good exercise but I'll end up in the hospital & oh my how my but hurt.
Were only on the pavement a short while but it definatley trims nails.

I was really tired of walking every morning, so I dug out the mountain bike, put air in the tires. I take both Apache & Kiya into the trails & Im loving it. We still have some kinks to work out but Im thrilled, it sure beats walking. They get a better work out (so do I). I could let Apache off leash but, a story about a womens dog getting caught in a hunters trap & dying not too long ago, no thanks I'll deal with leashes. Anyone else ride a bicycle with dogs?

I leave at 8am & hubby's home between 3-4pm,  so thats about 7 hours, they could go longer but I myself couldnt imagine not going to the bathroom for  7 or 8 hours. What does your little dog do? Puppys are hard to let go that long. Any doggie day care around?.

Well I don't know about hicups, I would think they hicup for the same reason a person would. Kiya burps, loud too. I keep telling her its not very lady like.
