Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Update on Samantha's lump
« on: December 18, 2008, 02:19:44 pm »
those lumps are a pain.  The vet can poke it and take a sample of what's inside, look at it under the microscope and tell if it's "cancerous" or not in one visit.  Grace has one on her stubby that they meant to clip off during her surgery.  they forgot, but the vet did the looksie at it when she was in late last month and it's not cancerous.  they'll probably remove it soon and they may give me a break on the price since they forgot to get to it on the 4th.
just like with people, dogs grow weird bumps and lumps that serve no purpose and do nothing more than look big.
I had a dog once that got lumps.  turns out she was getting pimples and if you squeezed them, they would drain and go away.  Lady got one on her paw and before we had the chance to have it removed she licked it and it burst and bled and went away.  Most large breeds get those on the lips and toes.  Of course, Grace has to be different and get one on her stub (which the vet said was most likely scar tissue from her crop that took almost 4 years to bubble up.)
I would go with his confidence in his thinking it's probably a beneign tumor.  If she's not showing signs of pain or strange sickness...the n i think you're ok not to worry.  :)  keep us posted.
Sam gets the pimples on her chin. They last a few days before they go away. They look terrible but don't seem to bother her. The problem with this tumor is its location. Its right in the bend of her elbow on her front leg. My vet said that because of the location Sam has been licking and biting at it and thats why it looks as bad as it does. To guote my vet when she saw it "oh my that looks nasty". I think your vet should do your dogs procedure for free since it was thier mistake, but a discount is nice too.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Update on Samantha's lump
« on: December 18, 2008, 01:23:51 pm »
I decided not to wait until saturday, being a concerned mommy. I called my vet this morning when i got home from work and they saw her right away. The vet examined her and found the lump on Samantha's front leg to be a tumor. My heart is aching, fearing the worse right now. We have to wait until January to have the tumor removed and find out if it is or isn't cancer. The vet. seemed confident that it is mostly likely not cancer so I'm going with that mentality. We have to wait due to finacial reasons. I work for a car factory (I'm an EMT for toyota),and they are laying us off for a month. So $650.00 is a bit hard to come by. But we are scheduling the surgery for around the 10th of january, unless she seems to start having trouble walking or is in pain, then i'll have my change jar at the local convenience store.HAHA!!!
Thanks for the comments last night, and the advice that was offered. Now that we know what we are dealing with it will be a little easier. "knowing is half the battle" right?

Thanks. To both of you.  I thought about the pressure soar however, the lump is on her elbo, but in the bend on the front, not where she lays on it. I'm thinking that it could be a splinter, maybe, from her jumping my wooden picket fence. I've put heat on it and cleaned it. I'm an EMT so i've done basic first aid in trying to not let it get worse. Maybe if i can get her into the vet friday after noon, after my last final before i have to be at work, if not i'll have to wait until sat.
Just worries me. Three months ago, i found out not too use over the counter flea medication. That was a real ordeal, almost lost both of my babies. But this seems minor compared.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Lump on Sammy's leg
« on: December 17, 2008, 04:32:46 pm »
About two weeks ago I noticed that Samantha, my germanshephed boxer mix had a small lump on her front elbow. Then the lump was no more than the size of maybe the top of a thumb tack or maybe a dime. I have been watching it and checking it everyday, yesterday I noticed the lump was now the size of a quarter, there's no hair left on the area and its very red. Because I am in school and it is finals week, i can't get to the vet until Sat. I'm worried that this may be something bad but i keep telling myself it is probably nothing. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Please help!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Warning about Sergeant's Gold

WOW! I'm insulted by the remarks made by the supposed president of this company.
To the President of Sergeants Poison:
I can read!!! And I think the rest of us on this forum can as well. First, I thought my dogs may have had an allergic reaction, ok, that happens. However, I have two different breeds of dogs, 2 completely different breeds. Allergic reaction, maybe if only one of them had gotten sick. I can't believe that you consider for a second that over 40 thousand complaints, that is the number that I have found online, is minimal! That's 40 thousand way to many!! If you ask me. Sure, i would brush this off had I only found a hundred or so. Ok there's a million dogs in the world, but 40 thousand is hard for me to swallow. As for your "read the label crap" that's what it is. I quote, if irritation occurs? What exactly do you consider irritation. As for me and the rest of the people here its certainly not what our loved ones suffered through. We are not uneducated, illiterate people as you seem to want to label us. How about you read the label to your product, and you tell me where it says my dogs could die if I use your product, or where it says they will become disorientated and fear for their lives. Or even where it says they could have seizures, or tremors. My dogs were poisoned by this product that is the bottom line. If this wasn't something people would be concerned about the local news station would not have put your product in such bad light! Yeah I did that, Mr. President of poison.
My dogs appear to be their happy healthy selves again, however I'm not taking chances. we went to the vet where they drew blood to check their enzymes, liver function, blood levels and several other things. They don't do that for allergic reactions. Allergic reactions do not affect the liver and kidneys. I'm already out $400 dollars in vet bills that is only rising, thanks to your product that is suppose to protect my "kids". And as many others here that's a lot of money for me to come by unexpectedly.
I don't appreciate your insulting us by your brushing away our complaints and assuming we are idiots. You will hear my name again, most likely when your sitting beside me in court. >:(

here is a link to the new broadcast that aired last week. I urge you all to call you media stations as well, if only the local papers to get the word out on this product. The  louder we are the more likely sergeants will have to do something.

UPDATE ON PREVIOUS POST:
I did call the news station, channel 27 in lexington, kentucky. They were just has unnerved by this product still being sold as I am. They came by my house this morning and done an interview with me. They are also going to speak with the local vets about this product. At least this will get the word out and hopefully save our beloved furry friends. This will air on the local channel tonight between 5p-6p. He wasn't sure exactly which segment it would be on but it will be on the air to notify the public of this poison that is sold to "protect" our dogs. I believe they have streaming video on the website if you want to see the segment. I'm not stopping here. This is only the beginning for me. I am going to call sergent's and most likely file suite for my vet bills. My dogs are doing so much better now, still itchy and not 100% yet. We are going for a check up on saturday to find out if there is any long term effects from this product. I'll keep you all posted and let you know if there is anything you all can do to help get this off the shelf.

There has to be away to for us to get the point across to sergeant's. We are the ones that keep them in business. I'm considering calling my local media station to see if they will run a story on this product. Maybe if all 33,000 + people that have taken the time to complain about this product in forums would speak a little louder we can get this pulled from the market. I thought I had killed my "kids" a german shepherd/boxer, and a pug/chow. There is no warning of this type of reaction. Luckly, my dogs reaction wasn't serious and they are doing fine now, 24hours later. But it was a long night last night, and I don't think either of them will ever want another bath!!
