I'm glad to hear that is just pigments. Do you know where in Florida your doctor moved to? If he's close by I might just become his patient :)

Shoda completed the beginning course at Petsmart. He is almost two years old. I got Shoda at Puppy Palace, aka a dog store. I really don't think they will take him back. I wonder what they do with the dogs who are not pups anymore...I'm hoping she will agree to him roaming one blocked off section of the yard but she doesn't like the idea. I don't like the idea of having him on a leash all day and night. He doesn't do much except dig, chew and sleep. ::) I'm really hoping we can come up with something cause I don't know if I can give him away.

my mom has been attacked by a large dog when she was younger. then shoda has bitten her boyfriends. he just went in the yard and started petting him, i think shoda was just doing his job and guarding. then my mom got a toy pomeranian and was attacked by two pits last month. so she doesnt like shoda because he is big. i tried talking her into just giving him a small section of the yard and she doesn't like the idea. she does like the idea of him being on a leash with a dog house cause she feels bad when it rains. i'm going back in about ten days for the xmas break. we will see what will happen then as to what she decides.

As we all know, I have an Akita. And I'm moving back home with my mom and she doesn't like him because he is a large breed. He stays outside but he like to dig and she hates that. There is a chance I am going to have to give him away. I was hoping soneone on the website might be kind enought to take care of my baby. my mom won't compromise on the situation. Please let me know. Please take care of my baby I love him soo much. It hurts just to write this. please let me know, send me an personal message.

LOL I'm glad to hear that, I still praise my boys for going potty and they are both at least a year and a half old. Do you guys tell him verbally to do his business? I tell them to go potty and poopoo...

My Akita, Shoda has plenty of black spots too. He had a few of those spot when he was younger, around 7-10 months, I thought he was gaining a new dark spot on his coat but that didn't happen. Now he has what seams like hundreds of these spots, I thought it might be spot where he has been bitten by fleas, or scabs from scratching, or a skin irriation. I'm gonna take him to the vet in a few days to find out. My little dog has the same spots though.

I completely agree as well. I love my boy. He has calmed down a lot with his misbehavior and I have stepped up as a better trainer.

O and Akitamom08, your Akita is beautiful. Mine tends to keep his head down, level with his body. Does anyone know why?

When it comes to growling, sometimes its a mean get away I don't like you growl, but that has only happened maybe twice and sometimes its a happy growl. Akita is known to be vocal. I especially love when he talks and yarns. Pertaining to obedience: He listens fairly well, he is best when u have food which i would like to work on. I would like for him to come or stay or anything when off leash and I don't have any food to reward him.

LOL he does have that "I wish you would" look. Russell surprisingly isn't very hyper. He does have moments when he runs around the apartment 40 times, but majority of the time he just wants to cuddle and lay on a person. Russell is the protective one between the two, if you tap anyone he starts to bark at the person, Shoda just watches. I think to see if it is a serious situation or not. Also, if Russell is barking at someone Shoda thinks is okay too much, he tries to shut him up.

Okay so repeating the command is a bad thing. Sometimes when I say sit he starts but pauses and return to standing, at this point I say "go on" to encourage him and it works, but then again this is sometimes. Other times he just doesn't listen. I feel like he doesn't like to lay down unless he is going to relax.

For example we are working on crate training using the technique on this website. Its working pretty good so far. The only problem so far is he doesn't go in the crate unless I throw a treat in first. I'm trying to use to command "inside" to get him in. First I need to get a kong ball to continue the training though. The first three is Shoda and the last one is Russell :) I caught the hint!
