Newfoundland Pictures / Bella is two today!
« on: November 03, 2007, 12:57:30 pm »
Today was Bella's second birthday!  We went for an early morning walk and also to Petco.  Bella picked out a yummy pig's ear and a stuffy.  It's hard to believe my tiny puppy is all grown up now.  Help me wish her a happy birthday! :)

Sasha and Bella were getting a bit toasty with all their fur, so they got their summer cuts today!  They look so silly (but in a cute way ::) )!

Newfoundland Discussions / Sasha gets to go outside!!!
« on: February 12, 2007, 06:46:02 am »
Just wanted to give a quick update.  Sasha visited her surgeon last Wednesday and she has been cleared for short walks, building up to longer walks and on-leash time out in the house.  Yippee!  She is so happy!  We went for our first walk yesterday and she did great--no soreness or limping.   :)  Now she's ready to go again!

Unfortunately we've all had the flu and so Sasha hasn't been able to fully enjoy her new freedom  :P .  Hopefully we'll all be healthy this week and can go for lots of walks and snuggles in the house.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Sasha's biopsy results...sort of
« on: January 22, 2007, 09:14:16 am »
First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and well-wishes for Sasha. :)

So far, she is doing very well.  She is very patiently staying in her crate all day (except potty breaks).  One week down and 5 to 7 more to go!  Her leg seems to be healing well and she will have the staples out on Wednesday.

The biopsy results came back "inconclusive".  The vet says that the discoloration of the CCL and the meniscus was due to a physical injury and is not cancer or degenerative disease (yay!).  However, the actual reason for the discoloration was not clear.  So, I suppose this means we shouldn't worry.  If they come back with any more conclusive information, I'll post it.

Thanks again everyone!
Jessica and Sasha :)

Newfoundland Discussions / Sasha is home!!!
« on: January 14, 2007, 04:45:07 pm »
Despite the terrible weather in Oklahoma, Sasha is home!  She was released from the vet clinic this morning and hubby drove her home.  She looks great!  At the moment, she is pouting in her crate.  She has to stay there for 6 to 8 weeks...what fun.  :P

Her leg looks really good and she is putting some weight on it.  We should hear back about the biopsy early this week.  Sasha really wants to play in the snow and cold...maybe next time.

Thanks for all your positive thoughts! :)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Sasha is in surgery today **Update**
« on: January 10, 2007, 09:11:56 am »
Sasha could use some positive thoughts today.  Her knee hasn't healed completely from the strain/sprain at Thanksgiving.  So, today she is at the vet hospital at OSU to have surgery.  If the ligament is torn or damaged they will do a TPLO.  They couldn't be certain from the x-rays and physical exam.

Please think of my little Sasha today!  :'(

Newfoundland Discussions / Happy Birthday Sasha!!!
« on: December 21, 2006, 10:34:43 pm »
My "little" Sasha is two years old today!!!  She had eggs with her breakfast this morning and is having a nap on the couch now.  We're all going to PetSmart of Petco to pick out a new toy later this morning.  :)

Happy birthday Sasha!

My poor little Sasha!  Last night she tore her ACL.  We couldn't get any of the local vets to return calls last night (grrr), so we went to the emergency vet in Tulsa today.  She prescribed rest and Rimadyl until we can get in to see the orthopaedist at OSU (hopefully this week).  The Rimadyl is really helping, but Sasha is obviously hurting. :'(

Please send good thoughts her way!

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Fleas and ticks and chiggers, oh my!
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:22:25 am »
Help!

Our new home is in an area with lots of fleas, ticks, and chiggers.  :P Yikes!  What do you do to prevent flea and tick infestations?  Is there something to prevent chiggers too?  We are also planning on treating the yard--does anyone else do this?

We've always lived in places with few fleas and ticks and no chiggers.

Thanks!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Advice needed: moving with a cat
« on: July 14, 2006, 01:09:17 pm »
Our big move is just a few weeks away!  :) We're relocating to northeastern Oklahoma from Phoenix...a 16 or more hour drive. :P

We plan to take two days to drive it, with an overnight in a hotel along the way.  Sasha and Bella will be bored but ride very well.  Our kitty, however, hates traveling and we're not sure about an overnight at a hotel.  Currently, our best idea is to get two hotel rooms: one for my husband and the newfie girls and one for the cat and me (that way the cat won't escape when the girls go out to potty).

Anyone have suggestions for moving a cat? ???

« on: May 31, 2006, 10:38:56 am »
Bella and Sasha are having so much fun this summer!  We have relocated to Phoenix for the summer and the girls love the pool!  They were too hot (me too!) so we had to give them a haircut...  ::)

Here are a few photos. ;D

Newfoundland Pictures / My little "helpers"
« on: March 30, 2006, 04:09:29 pm »
I'm in the middle of writing my dissertation and today I get to write at home!  We're having so much fun!!!  My little helpers come by to check on me every so often.  I love taking a break and snuggling with them! :)  Be sure to check out their noses in the photos...I'll bet you can guess how they're helping. :P

We took the girls to the dog park this morning...it's one of their favorite hang-outs.  There weren't very many doggies so it wasn't very exciting.  Then it happened.

One of the little male doggies (who is actually pretty sweet) peed on Sasha!  She was just sitting there watching the other doggies and not paying attention.  I don't know what he was thinking.  He marks everything, in fact, he peed on my husband a few weeks ago!

Poor Sasha had to have a bath.  She's very sad now...
