Bo, our 80-lb Rottie/Dobie one-year-old has suddenly developed swelling in his "elbows".

Anyone know what this might be?  We have a vet appointment on Saturday.  Isn't he too young for arthritis??

Here's Bo when we got him....I think he was about 20 lbs (back in July '05).  He's up to 75 lbs now! :D

Does anyone else here have a Rottie mixed with Dobie??  The bigger Bo gets, the more rottie he looks....excep t his nose is longer, he's a little leaner and his hind legs are a little longer than Rottie.

Does anyone here have to muzzle their puppins?  After a recent incident where Bo snapped at a man, I'm thinking about getting him a muzzle for when he's off the leash on walks or when I take him to see the vet.

Recommendation s?

Bo is a good boy.  He's about 10 months old now and we've had him for about 5 months.  He's a Dobie/Rotti mix and he's probably about 60-70 lbs now. He's great on a leash, he's great at home, he AWESOME with all of us (his family) but he's not very nice at all to strangers.  My son was walking him near a creek the other day and a man wanted to pet him.  My son told him that he should just leave him alone because he's not too friendly with strangers.  The man called him over anyway and Bo snapped at the man's hand.  I guess if that's all he did, I should be grateful.  Bo's not vicious, but he cold probably do some damage if he chose to.  He CLEARLY doesn't like anyone but us.  Even when we have guests over, I have to either hold him or put him in the garage.

So, how can I get him to "meet" people without wanting to tear into them?

I'm slightly worried about the new pup we're getting tomorrow.  When I took Bo to the vet, he growled at another pup that was there.  I HOPE he's not dog aggressive, but I have no baseline yet.  I'm hoping that, on neutral ground, he'll take to the new girl and she to him.

Any words of advise?

I'm getting another mix, a dobie/shar pei mix!  Sounds weird, right??  Check out the CUTIES!!  My husband only wants one more pup and he likes the blond one (typical male).  I hate to leave the other pup....hopeful ly we can find a good foster for him!

Anyone had this type of mix before??  I'm wondering how big the dog will get??

yes or no.  And if yes, then what's the best type?  We just adopted a 4.5 month old rottie/dobie mix and we'd like him to have access to our laundry room when we're not home.  How easy is a dog door to install?

Mixed Breed Discussion / We just got a Dobie/Rottie mix!

We got him (Bo) at the shelter yesterday and he was/is emaciated.  He's about 4.5 months old and a real cutie.  I've never been very partial to dobies, but I just COULDN'T leave him in there looking like that....the other dogs in his cage obviously were more aggressive and he looks like he hadn't had a real meal in weeks.  We picked him up around 4pm yesterday and he ate 3 times before we went to bed.  Poor baby....

Anyway, does anyone here have this mix??
