We're upgrading our server so we can utilize some of the newer software available. The first stage takes place over the next couple of days so if you see something strange, I'm likely the culprit. There may even be some down time. The second stage will occur later but should bring some new stuff!

Newfoundland Pictures / Bear's Backpacking Trip Part 2
« on: June 09, 2008, 05:32:36 pm »
Bear is attempting to follow my buddy across the log.

He decides he won't follow us off a cliff and takes a safer, wetter route.

The snow was a mixed blessing as it kept our drinks and fish cold, but we got really

lost as it covered 40% of the trail.

Bear leading the backpackers. As if he knows where he's going.

One of Bear's many breaks.

Considering going down the rock water slide?

Finally we're here. First things first of course.

Next, lets catch fish!

Bear is shown here guarding the loot.

Getting ready for dinner.

Bear is calling it a day.

Next morning, Bear is still tired.

Where better to have a seat than in the water?

Bear has been banished from leading the pack; he almost sprained his leg twice by

falling through melting snow. So at this point, I kept him behind me so I could navigate

his path.

Finale - waterfalls!!

I took the Bear cub on his last backpacking/fishing trip over the weekend and boy did Bear love the catch. He had 3 fresh trout for dinner Saturday night, and 2 more for breakfast Sunday. Here's a video of him eating:

If you're interested, throw your name in the hat by leaving a comment on the blog post.

The give away is a Top Tag (x2), Dog Tag that is essentially a tiny USB stick that has some really cool software on it. It keeps a complete profile of your pup, including food and diet needs, medical requirements, photo album, and his/her home address. The company sent us two to review and we're in turn giving them to you guys. Visit the dog blog for more info:

Here is the link to the short video of Bear and CHester playing from yesterday. They were so cute! Chester has springs for legs and the uncanny ability to never tire. Enjoy!  ;D

I’ve got an exciting poll for everyone. The company I work for, Jakks Pacific, Inc., has just wrapped up a deal with Snoop Doggy Dog, the very stylish, very eccentric, (very a lot of things,) singer/rapper and even actor as Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch. We are developing an entire line of dog products geared for large breed dogs – leashes, collars, stuffies and clothing; all of which will have Snoop’s unique flare.

Now for the poll: we are going to have Snoop record little sayings – clever, cute, and funny little tidbits that will play back from internal chips inside some of our toys. Much like a squeaker toy, the sound byte will play upon similar pressing/shaking.

So, what would you like Snoop Dogg to say? This is a chance to shape how these toys will progress and Snoop’s voiceovers! (And of course what your pal has to listen to :)  You won’t have long to wait either, the line will start rolling out on shelves everywhere later this year!

More details: The clips need to be short and sweet, appropriate for dog toys, and many.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Big Paws Needs Support
« on: April 18, 2006, 01:30:29 am »
Jaime and I had never really planned on needing help running this site, and it's tough to ask, but here we are crossing the threshold between time spent paying for server, support and bandwidth costs and time just creating, coding and designing. As you'll read in the details, Jaime and I have supported the costs largely because of our love of this community and our family of big dogs, but also because we want to contribute to the lives of other gentle giants. Please see the below link for more details.

If you can help, and it can be any amount really, it will be graciously appreciated.

I appologize for the outage. It was kind of out of our hands. I've copied our host providers response below.

Are there any other issues we should know about? Let me know: info@bigpawsonly.com

Kindest,
Michael

Emergency Power Maintenance

UPDATE

We are still performing emergency power issues within certain areas of our data center in Dallas, TX (CDC-01). Certain servers in a few phases might be affected during this maintenance window.

We apologize for this inconvenience and rest assured we are working non stop to fix this issue.

Additionally, our diesel generators are powering all areas that can be powered during this maintenance. Per our licensed master electricians on staff, because the power feeds into CDC-01 are "3 phase" and only one "leg" of the 3-phase power is affected we cannot power those areas with generators or a power overload could occur and blow main fuses within the facility.

We are aware of all downed servers and have teams working to restore access and power if your server is affected. There is

***NO NEED TO CALL INTO TECHNICAL SUPPORT OR OPEN UP A TROUBLE TICKET***

Our monitoring systems print out lists of downed servers every 30 seconds for us. Rest assured we are here working hard for you and your needs.

Best regards,

Network Operations Center

We appologize for the server outage, it really should not have been down for so long. We went down last night and had to call support; as it happened, our unix technician was technically inept and had to wait until this morning. Grr...

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / More Updates: Live Board
« on: February 22, 2006, 03:34:26 am »
In our attempt to add features that make this site more interactive, fun and useful we have added new functionality to the main board page. This home page of the forum is the center of activity and now is in constant communication with the server looking for the newest posts and updates. When it finds something new it immediately grabs it and puts it in the top slot (according to a predefined delay) eliminating the need to refresh the page. You can catch posts update live much like an instant message by watching the top of the forum index. Many of you have noticed that the posts shift down while perusing the page; this is a direct result of a post moving to the top slot while the rest shift down. The last post on the list goes into oblivion until someone decides to resurrect it.

Of course as a new feature it is not without problems, and we’re working on it. We’re also adding several new features; the first being a pause button, so that you can safely click a topic without a new update causing a shift.

We’ll keep you posted on other updates as they occur.

Warmest,
Big Paws

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / New Feature: Shout Box!
« on: February 22, 2006, 02:58:31 am »
We have just added a new shout box on the right hand column whereby we at Big Paws Only can pass notes to the little dogs at www.tinytracks .net as well as receive notes from them. Notes can be anything you like, warm-hearted gestures to silly insults, let’s just keep it clean and fun.

Instructions: To pass a note to Tiny Tracks, simply click on the image. If you have your browser settings controlling window popups, adjust them to allow Big Paws Only as a popup will appear. Once this window renders, simply fill in the box with your note and tap the preview button. Adjust as necessary and submit! You can then visit www.tinytracks .net to see the outcome!

As a new feature, it still needs work. A couple of things that need to be added in the short term: a filter to discourage inappropriate language and some validation to limit the number of lines and characters per line. This will have to be community moderated shout box so please help us keep things on topic as well as appropriate; so if you see something offensive, please edit as needed.

We hope this is something you will enjoy! Have fun and best wishes to our family!

Big Paws
