Medical Conditions & Diseases / Scrotal swelling post neutering
« on: November 14, 2007, 01:12:38 am »
Ok Guys....haven't visited this site for a while...been very busy with human emergencies.  Anyway,  a couple of weeks ago I have both my make and female Kuvasz "fixed".  My girl did awesome.  However, my big boy didn't fair so well.  Before we even left the vets office his scrotum was swollen to the size of a small mellon.  I kept him quiet...he didn't even did at stitches.  He is such a good boy.  But, NOW, he is dripping blood and serum and licking.  I have put the ECollar back on him, but now his back end is filthy and matted due to drainage.  Vet said this could take even a month more.  Question....ha ve any of you had a male go through this?  He is such a patient boy, but I can tell he is miserable.  I will now have to go to the groomer...frie nd of mine... tomorrow to help me get this area cleaned up and shaved to help keep it clean.  I realize that drainage is good...healing from the inside out, but this should have been a simple snip job......poooo ooor Mikey!!!!!!!!!!!!1

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / imagine this
« on: May 19, 2006, 06:16:07 am »
Imagine....a Kuvasz crossed with a Scotty.  Not going to happen, but I thought I would give you all a chuckle.  Little missy gets spayed on Monday....went in heat yesterday..go figure.  I scheduled this a couple of weeks ago.  They said at that time they could still do her even if she did go in heat.  I thought a scotty/kuvasz cross sounded hilarious!!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / stranger on my doorstep
« on: March 13, 2006, 11:27:52 pm »
I went to let Mike in and wouldn't ya know....he found a buddie.  Well....I don't know where  this friendly black lab came from, but now he is parked on my doorstep and it is getting colder outside.  If I let him in we will NEVER get any sleep tonight.  I had suspected that he lived a couple of houses down, but the neighbor to them said that ones sports a red collar and this one only has a choker on.  I feel terrible, but I am hoping someone is out there looking for him.  He has good weight and is very friendly so he obviously has a home, but this is going to drive me crazy alllll night long!!!I just hate it when this happens to me...I am such a sucker for a pretty face.

Kuvasz Discussions / attn Good Hope: Kuvasz weight
« on: January 14, 2006, 09:11:11 am »
Deena...help us out here.  I am thinking Mike is running a little lean......how is Saphire doing?  What weight is she running right now...I know that Mike should be heavier than her,  but both Dan and I are a little concerned about his weight.  He has been taken out snowshoeing almost every day and always seems to scarf up a few deer cookies if you know what I meanl And, the last couple of nights he has been waking up vomiting...not like him at all.  He must be about 90 lbs right now.  I have to go out of town, but maybe Dan should bring a stool specimen in.  I worry about tapeworms or whatever.  He has been very active and happy though. Let me know how Saphire is doing, K?  That would be about the best comprison we can get right now.  Thanks, mary

Kuvasz Discussions / Christmas eve visit to vet.
« on: December 26, 2005, 09:43:13 am »
This Christmas my siblings and mother rented a house on a lake up here in northern Minnesota so that we could all be together as mom's house was sold and we have no gathering place big enough now.  Well,  nephew had brought along from Chicago his black lab, Dakota, and his yellow/chocolate lab, Minnesota ( Minnie).  They were romping in the bedroom and Minnie was gashed on the end of the bed frame...the bed hadn't been made right....she got two very large gashes...one in her arm pit and one on her hip!!  Now, try and get a vet on Christmas eve!!  Well, they did..to a tune of $250.00....which really isn't bad...but ya just don't need more expenses, right?  Anyway, poor minnie spent the evening roaming the house wearing an Elizabethan collar!  Poor beastie....she is sooooo pretty.   We gave her pain meds to see if she would settle down and sleep...no such luck.  Poor thing kept running into furniture and people all evening long.  Who would have thought to look for that kind of hazard!!   It's a good thing that I left my beasties at home.....we thought it would be a bit two much since my sister had also brought her beasties.   I know Mike would have had a hay day with that collar!!!  Would have tried to drag miss minnie all over the house!!!!

Kuvasz Discussions / Out for a hike
« on: December 06, 2005, 07:24:01 pm »
I took my pups...Mike and K2...out in the woods for a hike today.  Mike was in heaven...we had his frisbee along and Dan would throw it waaaaaaay out in the field....Mike would go flying out there  and get it and bring it back just to play keep away.  Mike loves to run way far ahead and turn around and plan an attack coming back just grazing you as he flies by and runs way back and turns around and does it again and again and again.  Well, we came to a small river with a beaver dam.  Mike has never paid attention to it, but today for some reason he went running right over to it...maybe for a drink of water, but he leapt over the damn onto thin ice..........a nd yup.........he broke through!!!!!!!  I was so scared.  He took three giant leaps and the ice kept breaking!!!  The monster finally made it onto thicker ice, but now he was soaking wet and it was 15 degrees out and we were over 3 miles from the car!!!  The goof ball just kept right on playing....it never phased him!!  I could have strangled the silly pup!!!  We shall see just how much energy he has tonight at obedience training!!

Help me out guys.  I know this is for big paws only, but my kuvasz' little buddy K2 the scottie needs to have booties that fit....could anyone direct me to a site for little dogs so maybe someone there knows of booties that STAY ON!!  I suspect that last winter she frostbit one of her paws while on a winter hike and this year she isn't tolerating alot of time in the snow.

Kuvasz Discussions / wedding day
« on: November 14, 2005, 12:47:02 am »
Had to fill you in on my wedding day.  Mike and K2 were the ring bearer and flower girl.  Mike had on his own tuxedo....no hat...it covered his eyes.  And, K2...scotty... wore a red scottish plaid beret and scarf.  They were escorted down the aisle by my 16 year old son, Georde', who was wearing knickers and newsboy had....we had a turn of the century Titanic wedding.  On the program I had listed Georde' as the Beastmaster.  Mike was sooooooo good he just sat there most of the time and eventually fell asleep...the wedding was VERY short and after we said our vows K2 started to give a little bark....but Mike took a swat at her and she sat down again.  Everyone commented on what a good pup I had.....we were very proud of him....and he really like his tuxedo and didn't want to take it off.   K2 on the other hand would get up under him and say.....take this stupid hat off....how degrading!  Actually, she did a good job and didn't try and shake it off.  Not bad for a couple of pups in a very unfamiliar setting.  I will post pics when I get them back from photographer.
