I wanted to introduce Jinx's little brother Rookie...  Here's a brief run down on how he ended up a member of our family....
My mom has had Standard Poodles for the last 12 years or so and I swore I'd NEVER own one. So, she and her kennel partner just had their 1st litter on Halloween.  Of course they were so adorable and the girls loved playing w/them, but they were poodles and no thank you.  My mom had her favorite puppy she called Stain because of a white spot on his chin...the ugliest one in the bunch (according to me) but a personality plus!  Anyway, my mom had to go out of town for the weekend and asked me to dog sit.  So, off we (Hannah-9, Kendall-1 and Jinx) went.  Tayler my 13 year old and my husband stayed home because Tay had a sleepover...So I knew I'd have my hands full!  Ten adult dogs and 6 six week old puppies!!  I was scared!!  Needless to say I didn't have to lift a finger w/any of the puppies...Hann ah was on top of it from the get go.  She cleaned the pee and poo up as soon as they went, fed and watered them and loved on them too.  She seemed to have an immediate connection w/Stain.
Not Stain!!  Besides we don't need another dog...everyone's heard that before right??
She stayed up w/him until 1:00am and was back downstairs before I ever woke up!  I could hear her talking to him about how they were made for each other and she didn't think that she could have him...but she would pray that he got a good home and they would love him like she did.  OH BOY!!  I called my husband and tried to explain to him while sobbing what had just happened.  Of course, the famous words "we don't need another dog".  I explained to Hannah and she proceeded to cry the rest of the weekend and by the time we left I was emotionally drained.  When we got home Tim assured me her attachment to this pup would end (out of sight...out of mind).  WRONG!!  She cried for days and the puppies were going fast...someone was interested and we had to make a decision.  Tim finally gave in and we brought him home.  We decided on the name Rookie since we were novice poodle owners.

After about a month and a 1/2 he's settled in nicely and we couldn't imagine not having him!  He is a complete joy and VERY smart. And I even think he's become quite the cutie! Jinx on the other hand wasn't that excited...but she's coming around.

He is 11 weeks and weighs almost 30 pounds!  Does that qualify as a "big dog"?  I wasn't sure, but thought I would introduce him...he's a blue Standard

I will attach pictures seperate...it wouldn't let me do it as one post (probably because I rattled on too long :)

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Newf Mom...new to BPO
« on: January 15, 2006, 07:07:14 pm »
Hello to everyone! My family and I are owned by an 8 month old Newfie named Jinx.  We got her when she was 5 months old and we couldn't imagine life w/out her!  Now I understand why everyone says once you own one...you'll never be w/out one!  I am looking forward to learning lots from all the other big dog owner's on this site!
We look forward to talking to everyone!
