Newfoundland Discussions / Our Foster is here!
« on: August 15, 2006, 02:11:32 am »
 ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

We're fostering a newf from the midwest - Onyx.  Picked her up from transport on Sunday in Dunkirk and drove home to the Albany area - what a loooong driving day that was!!!
Onyx is a sweetie!  Very social, needs some work on her leash training, very inquisitive, too!  Smudge (the 'mini-newf') and Moose have been fine with Onyx - as I knew they would be.  Hubby was more worried than I was on that score.
Due to a few accidents (and neither party knowing "the signal") we're crating her when we're not home or sleeping...oh, she seems to be a countersurfer, also.  I checked w/hubby and he's going to up her portion of kibble, so that could help.

She is especially enamoured with the 'special newfie bowl' in the front yard - namely the half-barrel pond we've got... that was her first stop when coming into the yard Sunday.  Yesterday she tried to go swimming in it!  TOOOO funny.  Will try to get some pics.  Although that could be a difficult task when the papparazzi is rolling on the ground in laughter.

Here's the link to her photobucket album:

Mixed Breed Discussion / Update on Smudge our rescue
« on: July 05, 2006, 11:39:49 pm »
Just a quick update on our Newf/Border Collie mix, Smudge (the artist formerly known as Cindy).  She's been with us for just over a month and what a treasure she is!! Moose (our soon to be 12 yo German Shepherd) gets along pretty well with her - actually, he mostly ignores her.  Smudge has been to my brother's (unc's house) to play with his puppy a few times - she's not too sure what this play thing is, but ok, mom's here so she guesses she'll go along with it.  LOL  Smudge is a sweetie - always, and I do mean ALWAYS - happy whenever someone comes home.  She has her new daddy wrapped right around her little paw - her first night here she got him to invite her onto the couch!  She loves to start the night sleeping with us, then she'll either go into Samantha's room or Billy's room.  We have discovered that she does NOT like thunder or hard rain.  I haven't been home when you can hear the fireworks from up in Lake George, so I don't know what her reaction to fireworks is.  She LOVES to ride!  Loves, loves, loves it.  She can be a bit of an escape artist - but my youngest, Billy who's 16, has been taking her for walks around the neighborhood so that has greatly reduced the escape attempts.  She's  a sweetie through and through.  I'm so glad we rescued her! I don't know her prior history, but she's living the life of Reilly now!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO OT!  :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Howdy
« on: May 15, 2006, 12:32:38 pm »
Hi all!  Newbie to the forums here.  My name is Marilyn, I live in Upstate NY with hubby of 24 years, 19 yo daughter, 16 yo son and soon to be 12 yo German Shepherd named Moose.  I was previously owned by a beautious Newfy named Trouble who crossed the bridge at the ripe age of 13 years!!!  Currently we are in the process of providing a new forever home to a newfie/?border collie mix.. only problem is, she's currently being boarded in WV, and we're in Upstate NY.  HOPEFULLY the rest of the legs will be worked out so that she can come home this coming weekend!  Keep your fingers crossed for us!  Time to get it in gear to get to work, so I'll post more later/tomorrow.
