Newfoundland Discussions / Pumpkin stencil ASAP
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:51:46 pm »
Hello everyone,

I have not been on in a while, (after loosing my Newf a few years ago). I am back today to ask if anyone has a Newf Pumpkin stencil that you can share.  I got a stencil from a member a few years ago.

I was surprised this morning by my youngest daughter asking if we can make our pumpkin this year a Newf.  Halloween is our anniversary of loosing Brayden.  If anyone has the stencil and can share it would make an 11 year old girl very happy.

thanks

Found on Puppyfind.com.  I came across this add while looking at puppies. Pasted the information below, thought maybe BPOer's might be able to help.

Koda and his brother, 03-19-2006 (10 months) are in need of help

Current vaccinations, Veterinarian examination
***Courtesy posting for Diamonds in the RuffRescue,NC***
Koda is urgently sitting in a HIGHKILL Shelter in Newport,NC. Koda was an owner turnin due to being too large...and he is a big boy.He is mixed with mastiff and newfie, so yes, he isBIG! I would estimate his weight to be around 80 lbs. He was turned in along with his brother Kenai who resembles the Mastiff, or bull mastiffmore. They would love to go to a wonderful loving forever home together but it is not necissary. I cannot ship him due to his weight but for theprice of gas am willing to meet within reason to surrounding states. We are located in Nc. If interested please dont hesitate to call 252-764-3489 or email diamondsinther uffrescue@yahoo.com

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Update...Bray and Max
« on: December 08, 2006, 01:50:19 am »
Bray is now 1 year old and weighs 110 pounds.  Max is 10 weeks and weighs almost 30 pounds.
Both are doing well.  Bray really likes having a playmate, they go from morning till night with few breaks in between.
This morning we had a small issue (glad hubby wasn't home).  I was feeding both the the guys, max in the kitchen and bray in the entry to the kitchen, he was being lazy.  Anyway bray pushed his food away from him twice, it was about a foot away from where he was laying. I had just turned my back...I was arranging all of my beautiful Big Paw cards on my mantle.
Apparently Max had finished his food and decided that Brays food was far enough away from bray so he would just take a few bites...now normally they share or save the last couple of bites for each other.  I usually stand between them and keep them in their own dishes.
Well just as I turned around I heard Bray telling Max to get out of his space...Max squalled and ran into the other room then back around to me and back to the living room.  I quickly scolded Brayden for being so rough and went to check on still squealing Max.  As I sat with Max trying to calm him down Brayden came into the room.  Max saw him and started in screaming again and tried to hide behind the beanbag chair.
Bray backed off until the noise finally ended and came over to say sorry, he gave Max a full bath from head to tail.  When he was done bathing max, Bray proceeded to lay down on max in the beanbag chair.  Max emerged from beneath the big mound of fur and began chewing on Brays ear and neck, then toes.
They are so funny together, if Brayden sees Max geting into things he is not suposed to he growels at him.   If he dose not leave it Bray will get up and push Max away.  I
If they go out pottie in the front yard together and Max dosn't come when he is done and called to the door, Bray will go over to him and 'pin' him with one paw.  Usually when Bray removes his paw Max is more that ready to come to me.
Hubby has really grown attached to Max...I think he is working on loving Max almost as much as I love Bray.  They are funny too...max will ignore Walt for no other reason than just to do it and it really gets Hubby goin'.  Hubby of course dose not let Max get away with it and they eventually end up on the floor together hugging and playing.
We were watching a movie last night and my 11yo daughter was laying in the beanbag...Max walked in the room and over to her, stood there looking at her for a minute and proceeded to crawl up on top of her in the chair.  She eventually got up and he took control of the chair.  She ended up laying on the floor while he slept in the chair.  After the movie he crawled off of the beanbag went to her laid his head on her shoulder and put his 'arm' across her chest...did not get a pic :-\.
Sorry this is so long I have posted some pics of the crew...

Holiday Things / Wrapping Presents With Dogs...sound familiar?
« on: November 29, 2006, 02:21:38 am »
I wrapped my SS gift today and this is how it went...I found this on the internet, who knew that someone had already written about the experience. ;)

1. Gather presents, boxes, paper, etc. in middle of living room floor.

2. Get tape back from puppy.

3. Remove scissors from older dog's mouth.

4. Open box.

5. Take puppy out of box.

6. Remove tape from older dog's mouth.

11. Take scissors from older dog and sit on them.

12. Remove puppy from box and put on lid.

13. Take tape away from older dog.

14. Unroll paper.

15. Take puppy OFF box.

16. Cut paper being careful not to cut puppy's foot or nose that is getting in the way as he "helps."

17. Let puppy tear remaining paper.

18. Take puppy off box.

19. Wrap paper around box.

20. Remove puppy from box & take wrapping paper from its mouth.

21. Tell older dog to fetch the tape so he will stop stealing it.

22. Take scissors away from puppy.

older dog & sitting on them again.

25. Fend off puppy trying to steal tape & tape another spot.

26. Take bow from older dog.

27. Go get roll of wrapping paper puppy ran off with.

28. Take scissors from older dog who took them when you got up.

29. Give pen to older dog to hold so he stops licking your face.

30. Remove puppy from present & hurriedly slap tape on to hold the paper on.

31. Take now soggy bow from puppy & tape on since the sticky stuff no longer sticks.

32. Take pen from older dog, address tag & affix while puppy tries to eat pen.

33. Grab present before puppy opens it & put it away.

34. Clean up mess puppy & older dog made playing tug-of-war with remnants of wrapping paper.

35. Put away rest of wrapping supplies & tell dogs what good helpers they are.

Bullmastiff Discussions & Pictures / Christmas came early for hubby...
« on: November 19, 2006, 12:45:41 am »
Well Hubby and I came to a compromise.  The dilemma was that I wanted another Newfie...he wanted a Dogge De Bordeaux. After much consideration we agreed on a Bullie'.  I found one locally who's Daddy weighs 115 and mom is 97 lbs...

My daughter took a quick 2 hour drive (one way) to see the puppies and came home with a boy.  Of course I did not tell hubby so when he got home from work he found his new baby with a red bow chewing on a bone.

Brayden was happy to get him, he came with us to pick him out.  They seem to be getting along so far...we are sure to give Bray extra special luv and hugs so he doesn't feel pushed aside. This morning I found the puppy Max curled up at Braydens tail sleeping.

Okay so Hubby wants a Dogue de Bordeaux  and I want another Newf...( in my opinion the only thing better than one Newf would be two :D and so on...)

Hubbys main reason for only having one Newf at a time is the shedding.  We had an English Mastiff and I would swear that he was constantly shedding...com pared to the twice a year big shed that we have with our newf.  I am totally sold on Newfies however I love all dogs.  I was raised with German Sheps., imports...they were bread to be big 120#.  If memory serves they shed less than our Mastiff.

Does anyone have any experience with both breeds that can answer my question?

Saint Bernard Pictures / Home from the pound
« on: November 07, 2006, 06:54:22 am »
Okay so after the MAJOR run around we got our new girl home.  Bray was so excited to see her again, (they were introduced at the shelter).

We re-intorduced them in the front yard then brought her into her new home and gave her the grand tour...here's the water, here's the food dish, the bell to ring to go pottie, oh and lets not forget the kitties, how cute they were until Comet sneezed and scared her.

Brayden still has not figured out why she is not interested in him though :-\...she had to set him straight already, he was fussing too much over her and she finally had enough.  Can't say I blame her though, he was drooling all over her and she just wanted to lay down. (She was fixed before she could come home with us)

She is up and around today but has not eaten yet, we will keep trying to get her interested, she needs to gain 40 or 50 pounds.

I will post pics below...Oh her name...after much deliberation the family agrees on, Chloe'. ;D

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Went to the pound today...
« on: November 03, 2006, 04:17:08 pm »
Went to the pound today just to license Brayden...of course my daughter and I had to take a stroll thru the kennel...No Biggie, we were not looking for a dog we love our "Big Bray".

So in we go and in the second kennel we came to is a pretty little girl, shes a St. Bernard...Well the longer I stood there looking a her the more I began to think how sad that someone had just let this lovely little girl go.  I spoke with the attendant who informed me that she is Pure bread from No. Cal. she and her brother had gotten out one time before and landed themselves in puppy jail.  They were chiped so their parents were contacted and they were picked up...

Well this time, they got and and were pcked up and the shelter called their "parents"...no answer...now they are up for adoption...

The happy part of the story is that the brother has been adopted...and after a call to my husband, who is very tolerant of my love for BIG dogs, she has a new home too!
