General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / any advice?
« on: November 09, 2006, 06:59:26 pm »
We have had our two adopted three year old Newfs for about a week now.  They are the sweetest things to everyone they have met... all except my seven year old son.   They are fine if he is ignoring him, but for some reason if they are laying down and he starts petting them they growl.  They don't do it to anyone else except him.  It really makes me nervous.  Any advice on what to do???

Thanks-
Hilary

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / NEED HELP about hip dysplasia
« on: November 03, 2006, 12:35:20 pm »
I am so distraught.  We got our Newfs on Tuesday from a friend of a friend.  I kept asking for their medical paperwork and asking if they had any known health problems.  They assured me they did not, but didn't have the paperwork.

They are the sweetest dogs but when I brought them to the vets today they said they both had lyme disease and one had hip dysplasia.  I don't know what to do.  I'm not sure if I should just call the previous owner to return them.  We love them, but I don't know if I want to take on a known health problem.  The kids will be so upset.

Does anyone have a Newfie with hip dysplasia??

Well, we are getting our two Newfs tonight.  They are two 3 year old boys (brothers) names Seamus and Clancy.  I am excited but also pretty nervous.  I will let you know how it goes.  I probably won't be able to post pictures though.  I am the most computer illiterate person!

Newfoundland Discussions / adopting 2 newfs
« on: October 21, 2006, 01:02:17 am »
Hi.  We are adopting two Newfs in a couple of weeks.  We are getting them from a friend of a friend who can't keep them anymore.  We are very excited.  They are almost 4 and come from a loving home.  I guess I'm just a little worried because I have read on a couple of Newf websites that they become so attached to their first family that a lot of times they become depressed and can't attach to a new family.  What do you think?
