Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Thanx to everyone
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:31:59 pm »
Hiya everyone, just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone on this site for making me feel so welcome over the last couple of months. It's one of the few forums i've been on where i've felt really comfortable posting. Also when i'm on here and around all of you i actually feel normal for having dogs that take up all of the sofa and turn my house into a zoo. You'd be surprised how many people i bump into on the street who say things like 'why would you want such an animal?'. Maybe i should tell them about this site and get them hooked too hahaha.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / a collection of canines
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:23:23 pm »
Why do i keep collecting dogs? Some people are shopaholics and i think i'm a dogaholic. Sometimes i come downstairs into the kitchen and look at the bin liners shredded to bits, the drool and the hair and then i suddenly find myself saying 'i wish i could have another dog'!?!? Why is it the more mess our furry kids make the more we decide we should get another? When i met Baz he said we couldn't have a dog and then we ended up with Tiny, he said we definately weren't getting another one especially one so big and expensive and then we ended up with Jaspa. By this point he'd laid down the law and said definately not to any other dogs at all and now we have Murphy. Wonder how long it'll take me to talk him into furry friend number four hahaha.

Group Discussions & Photos / In season turmoil
« on: August 13, 2007, 11:50:00 pm »
Well Tiny my little crossbreed is in season so our house is in turmoil. Jaspa keeps trying his hardest to mount her even though he towers over her so obviously i've split them up. At the moment we have Tiny in the house and she's walking about whining, Jaspa is outside in the pen so he's howling all night long and Murphy is in the garden because Jaspa keeps biting him everytime he goes near him which hasn't put him in the best of moods so he's whining too. I've never known one little dog cause so much trouble hahaha. I bet the neighbours are impressed because at the moment our house sounds like a zoo with all the whining and howling and then me yelling out the window telling them to shut up hahaha. Don't you just love dogs! ::)

Newfoundland Discussions / An ode to my newfies
« on: August 10, 2007, 12:24:19 am »
There's hair on the floor, the carpet, the bed
Should i have bought a small paw instead?
There's drool on the walls, the tv, the door
Should i have bought a baby small paw?
Then i looked at my giants laid out in the shade
And realised the choice was the right one i made
So what if there's no room on the sofa or in bed
I'm glad i got owned by a big, hairy, drooling, smelly, lazy, heavy, stubborn but ever so loving newfie instead.
Hahahaha!

I was just wondering how everyone encountered their first large breed. I fell in love with newfies when i watched a programme about them on tv but i wasn't ready for the sheer size of them when i went to visit a breeder. She lived on a farm and her newfies were all living in a large barn joined onto the house. I leant against a gate and felt something ruffle my hair when i turned around there was the biggest head i had ever seen. The head turned out to be that of a 2yr old female newfie and ever since then i've been hooked. I remember my boyfriend saying 'and where the h*ll are you going to keep one of those'. Well the answer to that would be the sofa of course hahaha.

Well today i took Murphy my 6mnth old landseer newf to a friends house who has a rottweiler mastiff cross. She's always boasting about how big he is (you know the kind of friend i'm on about, we all have one hahaha). Anyway her dog is a little taller than the average rottie and he's 2 yrs old. When i got there and the 2 dogs got together Murphy towers over him by a good couple of inches which didn't impress her at all but surprised me quite a bit. Because i'm so used to seeing Murphy alongside Jaspa my 2yr old newfie i never realised just how big he is. He just doesn't seem to have been a puppy for long. Anyway just thought i'd brag a little about my baby who just isn't much of a baby anymore hahaha.

Newfoundland Discussions / Is my landseer newf normal?
« on: August 02, 2007, 01:26:44 am »
Hiya, Murphy my landseer newfie is 6mnths now but looks nothing like Jaspa my 2yr old black newfie did. Jaspa has always been really fat and really fluffy but Murphy is really long bodied with long legs and his coat isn't very fluffy at all. As this is my first landseer i just wondered if he was growing normally. When i look at photos on this site of other landseer newfs they all look really full coated and fluffy but Murphy's hair is very shoet and slightly wavy. Am i just being dumb?

Food Discussion & Information / best dog food for newfies
« on: August 02, 2007, 01:14:58 am »
Hiya, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of the best complete dogfood to feed my 2 newfies. At the moment they're on purina beta but i've been hearing a few bad things about its supposed high sugar content. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx  ???

Newfoundland Pictures / Murphy's finally home
« on: March 14, 2007, 10:31:18 am »
Hiya everyone,
we finally picked Murphy up on the 1st of this month and he's even more gorgeous in real life (i'd only seen photos of him). He's settled in well with Jaspa (my 2yr old newf) and Tiny (my lil cross). The only problem i'm having is with his food. He just picks all of the meat out of it and leaves the biscuits which are the most important part. I've tried putting a little gravy in with it and leaving the meat out so that he has no choice but still he refuses to eat them. I think maybe he's just being stubborn because he'll eat everything else that we give him. He's eaten the biscuits before and if i leave them down long enough he'll eventually get around to eating some of them but i don't want to have to leave his food down for too long otherwise the others eat it instead. Any suggestions? Anyway here are some pics of him and Jaspa.

Newfoundland Discussions / Scared Newfie
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:02:54 pm »
I'm new to this site so i'm not fully introduced to everyone yet. I've had Jaspa my black newfie since he was a pup and he's now 2yrs old. He's absolutely gorgeous and when he's in the house he's brilliant with me and the rest of our family. If anyone comes inside the house he's a little wary until he's sniffed them out and then he normally settles down and goes for a cuddle from them. However when he's outside on the lead it's a different story. If we walk past anyone who shows any interest in him he really starts to growl but at the same time he's shying away from them. I've tried all kinds of things to get him to calm down but nothing seems to work, also even though we go out walking everyday he's still scared when a truck drives by and he'll try to get as far away from it as he can. Is my baby just a whimp?

« on: February 19, 2007, 02:35:24 pm »
I've been trying to post pics but it's not working and i don't know why. I'm going to additional options and attaching the pics but then once i click on post it takes ages to load and then nothing happens (the pics don't send). Am i just been really dumb or is there a reason why?
