Great Dane Discussions / any ideas for a very over weight dane!?!
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:30:04 pm »
 ???
Hello,
I am hoping to get some useful information for my mother.
She has a 4 year old blue great dane. (this isn't her first)
He however, is very over weight. He weighs about 214 lbs. he is on a diet but the poor dog always seems startved. he gets fed a premium dry dog food. about 4 cups a day. sometimes he gets pumpkin in his food to help fill him up.
The vet says everything, health wise, is good. He has had a thyroid test and that has come back fine. Any ideas on possible hidden problems or ways to help with the weight. I am afraid he'll have a heart attack and he's my parents baby since we are grown and gone.
Also, for anyone who is interested, the puppies, PEyte and Corbynn (paiges Great Pyrenees pups) are doing great!!! :)

Great Pyrenees Discussions / one more thing

I know everyone is wondering...I think someone asked...the girls do not have favorites yet. They love them both equally and spend the same amount of time with them. Corbynn migh get a bit more time because we have to make sure Peyte doesn't grab his treat when he's eaten his!

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Our Baby Boys
« on: February 21, 2008, 04:39:49 pm »
:D
Well, the boys are having a ball in MD. They experienced snow for the first time and more is to come...so they said. Peyte(pronounced Petey, Andy named)found out you could eat the snow...imagine that? The little porker. And Corbynn (I named him. It's a combination of names and means, a  gift of God's love. I figured he should have a special name since he is much like my Woof). He loves the snow! He realized it is fun...he digs in it and rolls and gets soooo excited. Bathroom breaks now take twice as long because they have to play extra! I am so glad Paige bathed them often, even though it was hard on her, because they are such good babies for bath and with the blow dryer. When they get wet, we blow dry them and change their shirts. They are just babies!! ;)
Housebreaking is better. Unfortunately, my chubby Peyte, cannot seem to hold it all night though. We are getting 6 hours, tops, of sleep. But not un-interupted. He seems to have to go out around 3 every morning. Even if I stop his water at 9 and take him out a t 10:30. The one day, he laid on top of me and was licking my face and Crobynne was getting all upset, but I hushed them and got Peyte to snuggle. Well, about 15 minutes later, he was up again. I honestly was soooo exhausted, I couldn't get up. I barely remember sleeping some nights...but anyway, Peyte got up and went to the bathroom...on me and Corbynn! I said, ok Peyte, I am up and that was rude...poor Corbynn had to go outside and then get a bath at 4 am.
But they are too precious to be mad at. Although I think Andy is getting a little tired of sharing the bed...they do sort of hog it and they have to be right next to me or actually on top of me. They love their mommy!  :D
I did promise the girls, we'd let them fall to sleep with them this weekend but then I'll carry them to my room. They are definitely spoiled babies.I will send more pics later. My babies are up...and snorting. Whew...let me tell you they both snore but Corbynn sounds like a person...ALL night long! I start laughing some nights just hearing him.I am not sure if it's Andy or him! Well,  Iwill send more pics later. I put some on...they are not the best. It's Tabi's foot in the one.  ;D
Paige, did you get your note from us...the boys sent something to you??

:'(After 7 long months of trying to beat this dreaded disease,Osteosarcoma, we sadly lost our Great Pyrenees of 10 years. I cannot feel my heart or any other part of my body. He died in my arms...he was my life. I will miss him forever. We love you Woof!

  :'( :'(:( :( :'( :'(
Hi,
Someone that responded to my prayer request already has made me feel happiness, just knowing others are praying for my babies.
My 9 1/2 yr old, male pyrenees was diagnosed on weds with bone cancer to his left front paw.
The vet said it is not in his lungs, or should I say it's not seen there but is probably already there.
We are all beside ourselves. My 10 yr old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March. Our Woof is her dog, she is really attached to him. He is our comfort.
I had a hard time expalining to her when she asked why God gave her something? Now I have to explain why God gave her dog somethin that will take him away. And explain to her why he can't fight it and win!?
I cannot stop crying. I know everything happens for a reason but I cannot understand some things.
My husband doesn't understand why I keep searching on-line...it's the same outcome. But I am hoping. What else is there to do.
I am SOOO confused about amputating? I don't want my boy to suffer and I know removal of the leg is just pain management. He still is going to be taken away in a short period of time with or without the leg. I still cannot understand why if I cut it away, why he still dies?
I know that I have to make the decision, but I keep changing my mind.
If he's going to leave this earth in as little as a few weeks, why not let him keep his leg instead of learning how to walk without it and deal with healing when he could have the pain controlled with pills and keep his leg until the meds couldn't work? I pray that someone out there can help us...give me advice. Or even a miracle. My daughter said, "Mommy you don't have to cry over Woofie anymore, he's cured. I know if I think positive and really believe he's better he will be. So he is! Because I believe that."
And I try, but then I see him limp by...God help us. If anyone has any advice PLEASE send me an email. dawndonelson@comcast.net
And thanks to the wonderful lady who referred me here. I hope someone can share a miracle or offer a prayer...maybe then the good Lord will send us one! God bless! :( :( :( :'( :'( :'(
