General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Licking paw
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:53:24 am »
Hi,

My two year old golden been licking her paw so much lately it almost looks discolored.  She was treated last week for an ear infection and I called the vet's attention to her paw, which looked red at that time.  She thought the ear and foot was allergy related. She started her on medication and she that would help soon.  That was one week ago.  Her ear is clearing up nicely but she is constantly after her back paw.  There are no signs of a sore.  Has anyone had anything similar?  Would there be another cause or is there something I can put on her of give her?  I am lost....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Inappropiate behavior
« on: February 21, 2006, 07:33:58 pm »

I have a 15 mo. female golden retriever who within the last few weeks
seems to be becoming dominant around other dogs.  She has been through
several obedience classes.  As of late at daycare (I take her once a
week) she is barking and growling at the other dogs. She is given timeouts when she does this at day care.  Should I stop taking her there?  I do feel the socialization is important also. Is this a stage or do I have more severe problems to look for, ie, is she becoming aggressive? I would appreciate any advice in how to handle this.   ???
  Thank you.

Golden Retriever Discussions / Training collar

Hi, my six month old golden and I are about to start obedience class.  At the first meeting last night (owners only, no dogs present) the instructor gave us all of her requirements, one of which is they need to wear a pinch collar of choke collar.  Is this really necessary? It seems mean to me, am I missing an important point?  When we did puppy class and beginners obedience, we did not need this type of equipment.  (This is a different instructor).... any advice or thoughts please....???
I don't want to hurt of scare her in anyway, she is such a sweetheart.

Thanks

Golden Retriever Discussions / strong willed at five months
« on: April 08, 2005, 01:36:32 pm »
Hi, I have a five month old female who is very strong minded.  I need some advise as what to do when she acts like this; ie when I tell her to do something she does not want to do, she barks at me, jumps, etc.  Is this aggression or assertiveness?  We have gone through puppy classes and beginners obedience.  HELP, please.   Thanks
