General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / PICS of Gages New Collar!!
« on: March 11, 2009, 02:54:38 pm »
So incase you guys missed it, Gage ate Korys belt about a week and a half ago, here are the pics!!!

So here is a comparison shot of Korys new belt with the one that Gage ate so you can see how much he ate, and FYI the old one was about 6 inches longer.

Tooth marks, I cut about 2 inches off, so I could round out the edges:

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Well Gage has a new collar
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:51:04 am »
Because he ate 2/3rds of my Fiancees belt, and there is just enough leather to make a collar for the knuckle head out of, so that is what I did with it , the dork.  I will have to take pics when my camera charges.

He is fine health wise thus far.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Anyone in Texas
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:43:47 pm »
ETA I found this info, www.capitol.st ate.tx.us Type HB 458 in the search bar.
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=81R&Bill=HB458  (i dont know if that link will work if not follow the steps above it.)

Limit of 2 dogs in all of texas to anyone who lives in any platted residential subdivision no matter where you are located or how many acres you may have.

EVERYONE must get in touch with their representative s and let them know how opposed we are to this type of pet limitations.  The full text of the bill follows.

I fear this is only the beginning of a very long legislative session.

  A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
  AN ACT
relating to limitations on the number of dogs at a residence in
  certain counties.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Subchapter Z, Chapter 240, Local Government
Code, is amended by adding Section 240.904 to read as follows:
Sec. 240.904.  REGULATION OF NUMBER OF DOGS AT RESIDENCE.
  (a)  In this section, "residential subdivision" has the meaning
  assigned by Section 240.081.
         (b)  The commissioners court of a county with a population of
one million or more by order may limit the number of dogs that an
individual may keep at a residence located in a residential
subdivision in the unincorporated area of the county.
SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.

 January 7, 2009
The Texas Legislature convenes their 81st Regular Session on January 13th
and adjourns at the end of May. However bills are already being filed so
fasten your seat belts, this will be a rough year.

The Responsible Pet Owners Alliance's Board of Directors voted last
night
to
OPPOSE HB 458 filed by Rep. David Leibowitz from San Antonio relating to
"limitations on the number of dogs at a residence in certain
counties."

 The bill states:
"The commissioners court of a county with a population of one million
or
more by order may limit the number of dogs that an individual may keep at
a
residence located in a residential subdivision in the unincorporated area
of
 the county."
(Note this is unincorporated areas only. However it is a trend we
don't
want to see established in our counties.)

The "residential subdivision" means a subdivision that is
platted and
recorded in the county real property records; in which the majority of the
lots are subject to deed restrictions limiting lots to residential use and
that includes at least five lots that have existing residential
structures.

A meeting will be scheduled with Rep. Leibowitz asap to ask him to pull
his
bill, that we vehemently oppose it for the reasons listed below. Limit
 Laws:
 * Target all pet owners, regardless of the behavior of their animals.
 * Are hard to enforce as pet owners will simply hide their pets.
 * Cause a decline in the number of pets licensed and vaccinated for
Rabies.
Bordering Mexico, there's always a Rabies threat in Texas and the
primary
concern of elected officials should be that all animals are vaccinated for
 Rabies.
 * A person with one dog that runs loose or barks all night is a greater
nuisance than a person with a dozen dogs that are quiet, clean, and kept
at
home. Numbers have no relationship to nuisances.

Please contact your legislators and tell them that you oppose this bill.
ALWAYS ask for the person in charge of legislation. If you don't know
your
legislators, go to: www.capitol . state.tx. us/home.aspx and fill in the box
at
 the bottom "Who represents me?"

Then contact bill sponsor Rep. Leibowitz and politely ask that he withdraw
 HB 458. Phone Austin: (512) 463-0269, Fax: (512) 320-0555 and/or Phone
San Antonio: (210) 372-0759, Fax: (210) 372-1405. Ask for the person in
 charge of legislation.

Group Discussions & Photos / Swimming at the River Snye
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:15:07 pm »
So I took Alex, Ruffian, Tonka and Gage to the Snye River today for some exercise and here are the pictures.

We too start off here is Ruffian looking old, and so tired:

And Gage destroying something, as usual:

I had to carry Tonka across to the sand bar to get him to walk in the water:

And since these 2 wanted to bugger off and "explore" I had to tie them up:

And this was the end result of Alex, who was none to happy when I told him it was fish poop:

And Gage standing looking up at me:

Now for a bunch of Gage fetching in the water, I know there are more of him, but he moves more than the others, LOL

I LOVE these last two, I have always loved the way the baggy dogs look when they run, like Hooch in Turner and Hooch.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Hiccups
« on: May 05, 2008, 12:29:31 am »
Gage is around 8 months I think, and he gets hiccups everyday, I cant find anything about weather it is normal or not, so I am turning to you guys.  They dont always happen after eating, sometimes they happen hours after eating, when he stands, just for no particular reason.  They only last a few minutes normally, and dont seem to bother him at all.

I was told he is 6 or7 months, but I think he is older, I will ask the vet when we make it to Edmonton for his neuter.

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Neutering
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:39:51 am »
I read in the thread about the pitbull, that someone recommended not neutering a giant breed until they are 1.5-2, so I would like to know why.  Gage is a rotty mastiff cross, and 80+ lbs at 6-7 months, and on the lean side, I was planning on getting him neutered next time we head south, but would like to know the reasons why we should wait please.

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / New here
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:48:43 pm »
Hi I have recently adopted a Mastiff/Rottweiler pup, so I may need some help from time to time, and Krystal directed me here  ;D

So this is Gage, I was told he is 6-7 months, and what his mix is and that is about all, LOL.  So far he has been really good, house trained, kennel trained, pretty good on a leash, working on manners, he can sit, lay down and shake a paw.

Worried about what to feed him, and what not mostly.  I also have 2 Shiba Inu who are 12 and 10 years old, they are both fed Orijin but have been told that this, even the large breed puppy has too much protein.  I got him some Eagle Pack Holistic Select for now anyone have any other suggestions?  I need to keep him on something corn free due to my females allergies.
