Medical Conditions & Diseases / Doggy Deoderant??!!
« on: September 27, 2005, 09:38:17 pm »
Jamie!!!  I can buy stuff to spray on Finn to make him not stink so bad between baths?????  And you have kept this a secret because.....???  LOL    I'll be placing an order soon. We're fixing the house up to sell right now so my husband has some stupid idea that I shouldn't do any shopping till it's sold lol     but as soon as someone makes an offer... I saw a few different things I just gotta have.
Anyone want to buy a really cute 2 bedroom house in Maine???? For those of you who live in other states you'd be so suprised at how cheap real estate is here.

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Big paws franchise

So we have Big Paws, and now there is a "small paws" version too. I want a group just for IW's called Crappy Paws! We can all chat about how crappy our dogs paws are and how many crappy footprints we have to clean up every day. Steppin in his own crap...good thing he's cute!

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Finny was a hit at the vets!
« on: September 13, 2005, 09:36:37 pm »
All is well with Finn, otherwise known as Captin Drippy Beard. His weight is up to 102 (wich is still low for an 11 month old IW) and he's healthy other than the flea allergy BUT I got him Frontline finally so he should be fine. I'm still giving him allergy pills and powdering his butt a few times a day! What a geek he is! But everyone at the vets office fell in love...people forgot about their boring old poodles to come and meet him. "He's so well behaved for a puppy his age!" one woman said. Ofcourse he is, he's my baby!!
And by the way, Frontline better be great and I mean GREAT... not one single flea will I toletate in my home or on my dogs.... $85! I'm going to find a place on line to order it. It must come cheaper than that! That's $15 a month per dog.... 2 doses for each girl and 3 for Finn. Had I know I would have just shaved them!! On the phone she said $15... she didn't say I could only buy it in packs of 3... Man.  But I'll be glad I did it when I don't have to powder Finns bum anymore!

Finn and the rest of the gang are still doing great and I will try to get some new pics of him up soon. I can check in when I'm at school (yes, I went back to school!)
I miss you all madly....  Take care

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Yikes! Fleas
« on: July 05, 2005, 05:54:33 am »
I'm losing my mind! While combing my boy Finn I found a flea. No big deal, I'll just give him a flea bath. Turns out it wasn't just one or two, he had them pretty bad. How did I miss that? He had been itching, but I had looked at his skin and didn't see any. My girls had them too. I feel like a bad mom!
All 3 got put in the bathroom while I sprayed the house (especially their couch) and I washed all of the bedding. One by one they got a good flea bath, combed out, and flea drops. Then we all went for a walk because I sprayed again and the fumes were very strong. I wake up this morning to them all scratching again. Literally, their scratching woke me up. My guess is that they got them from the couch we got from a friend who was moving (they had a dog)
What more can I do other than bomb the house, leave for a few days? And the dogs would still have them! How do I get rid of this? It's driving me crazy!!!

Anal glands. There, I said it.
I gave Finn a bath the other day. Scrubbed him good, clipped the hair on his penis (cause when it's long it makes him pee on his foot) and I trimmed the hair on his butt (to cut down on smell). I figured since it was his day of beauty I'd drain the 'ol anal glands too (which I've never done before) and it didn't work. I think I must have been doing it wrong cause nothing happened which made me feel worse cause it was like I was playing with his butt for fun. He didn't flintch, didn't care at all. So can someone please please tell me again how to do it???
Explain it to me as though I'm so stupid I would put my gloved fingers all over my dogs butt for no reason!!!
And thanks Nicker for making ME feel bad for not clipping Finn nails!! Between my husband, my son, 3 dogs 2 cats and a lot of houseplants I'm bound to forget to do something!!!  I feed my guys dinner every night! I never forget THAT!!!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Dog friendly housing in NH??
« on: June 13, 2005, 09:17:26 am »
My hubby and I have decided to move to NH soon (within the next few months) and rent out our house here in Maine  BUT  we are only going (obviously) if we can find a place that is happy to have fur babies and it's stated in the lease. So if anyone knows of ny dog friendly housing in NH give me a heads up!
Time for a change, time to get out of Maine and we don't have enough equity in our house to sell it and buy another in NH yet (which is too bad). We're pretty nrevous about renting with dogs cause you never know when a landlord is going to decide you can't have them anymore (that's happened to someone here already) but we do have this house to come back to if anything like that happens.
Wish me luck in the hunt!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / The sound of happy doggies
« on: June 06, 2005, 03:09:14 pm »
I went grocery shopping today and while I was picking up somthing in the meat dept. I saw packages of beef marrow bones. I decided to get some for the babies and see how they like them....silly me...ofcourse they LOVE them!  I felt weird about feeding them raw meat. I know it's good for them, it just takes some getting used to. All three of them picked up their bones and went to the couch with them. I haven't heard a sound other than teeth on bone for over half an hour!  Tali girl didn't finish all of hers, but Sakwa is doing that for her.  I have 3 more in the freezer for another day. They're so happy!!! I love it!!
Does anyone know if they eat the actual bone too or just the marrow?

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Finny has a rash!
« on: June 06, 2005, 12:17:45 pm »
It is on his belly and inner thighs, where there is little to no hair. They look like raw spots, one as big as a quarter, a couple very small. Now he had this same rash when we got him and when we took him to the vet he said it was no big deal. He did give him anti-biotics but only because Finn was being neutered and the vet wanted to make sure it didn't cause an infection in his incision.
He doesn't seem to be paying any extra attention to that area, but just now when I got out a warm cloth to clean up the area I could tell he didn't really like me touching them. He kept licking my hand and trying to nudge me away.  So, any suggestions as to what it is or what to do for it? The vet didn't think it was a big deal, but I'd still like to know what causes it so I can try to aviod it.   Thanks all!

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / A home for a pit
« on: June 06, 2005, 08:08:31 am »
Hello all!
I hope this is ok to post here...
I have a friend who is being re-stationed in Honalulu in 10 days and needs to find a home for his pit bull Mia. They had found a home for her already and the guy backed out today, the day he was supposed to take her.
Mia is a beautiful girl who is not quite 2 years old. She is good with kids and other animals, housebroken and even knows a few tricks. She is fixed and UTD on shots and likes to have her nails painted. She has been very well cared for and shows no aggression. We are in Maine, but the owner is willing to transport to NH or Mass as well IF a suitable home is found there. If you know anyone that might be of help please contact me and I will put them in touch with Mia.  She only has 10 days to find a great forever home and our local shelter does not place pits...
I don't have a pic right now, but I will try to get one.
Thanks,

Vicki

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / bad dogs ( and us too)
« on: May 29, 2005, 11:50:29 pm »
Hubby and I are drunk. Just got home. Dogs dragged trash all over the livingroom.... we cleaned it up, though that's not what a couple of newly weds wants to do at 1:45 am...... but they're cute...so we'll let them live!!! It was a good night though. We NEVER go out and we met a girlfriend of mine outn at the bar (she called and begged) so we went. Now I have Munchos and coffee. What more could a girl need, besides a hot husband and I have that!??
I'm a bit (ok, a lot) too drunk to be postinmg here. I can get drunk twice off a 6 pack, and I had a bottle and a half of wine plus 2 beers. I should be passed out right now.
But to keep the topic about dogs, they look like they're waiting to be foriven, so I should go do that. You can't stay mad at them long....they're too cute.
I have to go watch the Memorial day parade in the morning cause my son and the cub scouts are in it...

Good night

« on: May 29, 2005, 04:18:25 pm »
AHHH!!! How I love a nice stroll in the rain! But as soon as we stepped out the door it went from rain to POURING!!! But you can't tease a god about a walk, so off we went. We're home now and all changed out of our wet clothes, but doesn't our house reek of wet dog!! But they are happy wet dogs, so that's all that matters... so sweet.
Off to rent a movie and get some wine....

She hasn't eaten anything she shouldn't have and otherwise seems to be acting fine.

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Off to see the vet
« on: May 19, 2005, 10:48:38 am »
Finn and I are off to see the vet. He's fine, it's just a check up and weigh. He's growing so much! I figured he would have grown into his feet by now, but they are still way too big for his body! Though he is still a growing pup.
The sun is shining, the kids are at school....
Everyone have a wonderful day!
