Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: When should I neuter Brutus?

That is basically what the vet said of Spike. That I should wait cause I was going to get it done as soon as he turned 6mths but if I did he would be all legs and believe me he is all legs as it is. Well all legs and large head and gigantic ears.

With Spike it is the worst when he drinks but he does drool some times on his own he got some poor little girl that was trying to give him smooches he left a goober from her chin to the top of her head. I just used his bandana to wipe it off. And kept apologizing to her mom.

Great Dane Discussions / Since Spike taking a walk has not been the same!
« on: September 01, 2005, 11:58:14 am »
I was thinking about that last night when we were on the 2nd walk of the day ( he gets 2 one at 5 a short one just to let some energy out when I get home and one around 7:30 when it has cooled off and we can take our time and walk near the water there is a little quarry by my moms house) anyway I was just thinking we cannot walk out the front door without having to stop.
I have noticed some things all kids want to touch Spike but the smaller the kids the less nervous they seem about touching Spike the older they seem to hesitate a little and the kids always seem to just know he is a puppy when adults for the most part think he is full grown. And kids want to hug and get slobbers adults want to ask questions and anyone with a dog seems to want to get me let their dog play with Spike even people with tiny chis seem to want to see Spike and their dog play Now Spike does have his friends I let him play with as much as possable
Zak (german Shepard) and Snowball ( not sure the breed but somekind of scottie)  And he has to stop and play with both of them. But everyone seems to think it is amazing that he is a Great Dane and just seem to have to touch him. I don't mind the questions cause then people will see the breed for the loving lap dogs they are and he loves it but I would like everynow and then to be able to just walk me and him. He is just my baby to me I really don't think of him like this powerfull massive regal purebreed he's just my little booger who likes to eat socks and the occasional kitty litter treat. Does anyone know what I mean?  Sorry this is not a rant but just my thoughts. Im bored at work!LOL

I hope Spike starts to calm down a bit with the sock thing. It is so bad I stopped wearing tennis shoes just so I did not have to worry about him eating them. He does not chew or rip them he just swallows them. I guess he is gettin a little better with putting everything in his mouth though at least if I say ICKY or SPIT IT OUT he will after we negotiate the terms of the deal usually a go give him his bone as a trade. I think he figured out that if we picks somethig up I will go find the bone he can't remeber where he put. LOL

I feel your pain! How old is he? My Spike is 7 1/2 mths and nothing is safe or sacred in my house either. Especially socks they must be like the Holy Grail to dogs or something no matter where they are hidden Spike can sniff them out like a bloodhound.

Depending what part of the state you are in. By my moms house it is 2.70 by work it is 2.86 by Pierres house it is around 2.60 they are all an hour away from each other. It takes about 30-40 to fill the Camero but I like to never let it get past 1/2 mark and its like 60-65 to fill His Expedition.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Some people are so rude
« on: August 30, 2005, 12:31:54 pm »
I totally agree. I think dogs are better than people and just by being near one it makes us better. Some people think that is strange that I feel that way but think about it They only know hate if they are taught to hate. They love unconditionaly . They will love you if you gain or lose weight, grow old, loose that really good job. I could not imagine a world without dogs.

That was the first thing everyone said when they found out I was gettin a Dane. And now they all see he is healthy and thriving with out a 100 acre farm to roam.
The big yard for a big dog thing is kind of over rated don't get me wrong Spike would love to do laps around Pierres oops our back yard if he would not get in the pool anyway but if I go in the house he would be at the door rooing and crying at the indignity of being left outside all alone.
As for the big house thing someone already said it  He is always right near me so even if we had a palace for him to run he would still be within tripping distance of my feet.

I looked it up on the web and found this:
http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/Parks/dog_parks.cfm
Is this the one you were talking about? The first one says dog park and dog beach? I might try and see if Pierre wants to bring Spike to one of these places this weekend.

With Spike it is under either ear or the back of his neck and between his shoulder blades. When he is starting to zoomie I will grab and massage his shoulder blades and he totally forgets he was getting ready to tear up the living room. He slowly slides to the ground you can almost hear the *sigh* LOL

When I first started taking Spike for walks he never went potty till we got home so I stopped bringing bags and the 2 time I went without guess what he did?!?! luckily it was not far from home so I walked right back to the house adn got a bag and brought it with us for the rest of the walk. Since then I don't take the chance that he might or might not when we walk I just keep one in my pocket just in case.
