Ive never heard anything about Newfies getting hot spots from wearing there collars while wet. I hope shes ok? Thank you for telling me that in case I get a Newfie.

Usually with Onyx, we let "the Herd" into the backyard, and let him determine his own level of play, with our supervision. He's larger than everyone except Apollo, so there's no danger of him being ran over. *LOL* Onyx has a mild heart murmur, so our Vet recommended that we allow Onyx to set his own pace, as he's good about listening to his body, and telling us when he's all done playing.

We take a lot of trips on the weekends, going hiking or off-roading, and the herd is usually with us. For Onyx, he walks with me, as I'm disabled myself, so I get to be the pace-setter (Hah, there are benefits to getting old!) and this allows me to watch him carefully for signs of stress of tiredness.

Mostly I've found that they're content with a good walk a day, (more if you can possibly spare it, because they love to be gawked at by other folks on the street!) and some dedicated play on the weekends. Swimming is one of the best things you can do for them, great for their joints, and it appeals to their inner nature.

Rumors of our kidnapping by the sasquatches were completely unfounded. Apollo ate them, and caught a bad case of indegestion.

Zeus has manageed to eat his way through half of the Olympic National Forest...tragi c really. That's why Mother Nature never intended for dogs to breed with woodchucks really.

Onyx has decided to take on the role of breadwinner in the family...and is currently practicing for his role as a travelling carpet salesman. his job...













to be the carpet. Now, there's a surprise. 

Seriously though, I've just been snowed under with School, new job, new music band. Ah, la vida loca. I try to at least read through the posts to keep up with you chatty lot...even if I can't squeeze in a post.

Miss you all terribly, keep posting the pics of those adorable puppers.


On a side note....great hoppin' horny-toads...Fumble got got *really* big while we were away. Onyx is really envious. He said it must be the East Coast air.

And now, for some pics of Onyx. There are not really any of Apollo, he's been incredibly ungracious lately. We had a bit of a scare with him in March. Apparently, he finally "bit off more than he could chew"; somehow he managed to rip off the top half of a BLACK kong and swallowed a piece the size of my fist. It lodged in his intestines, (we didn't find the toy until he started puking....ever ywhere *shudder*) and they ended up cutting him open from his ***** almost to his breastbone. 7 days in the emergency hospital, 14 more days in the "Cone of Shame" (cue appropriate music) and he still give us the evil eye from time to time like it was all our fault. I told him his garbage-gut ways would backfire on him one day....

1 - Military Spouses can use their husband/wife's GI Bill for schooling.

2 - Check out your bases in the area. Many of them have an on-base "campus" for the local universities/colleges, and there is usually child-care available.

3 - As someone else said, there are many colleges (espeically community) that offer child-care during their day courses schedule.

This poor girl's Master has passed away, and this poor girl needs a home. Here's her specifics...

I have not met this lovely lady personally, a co-worker of mine called and asked for my help, as she knows that I post here often, and rave about you guys all the time. If there's anyone in Washington State, or even Oregon who might have an interest in this doll, please let me know, so that I can get you in touch with her foster family.

She's not in a shelter, and doesn't need to be re-fostered, we're looking for a permanent family to place her with.

Due to her breed, I advise coming and meeting her before placing. Being owned by an Akita takes a certain kind of temperment and personality. These are absolutely lovely darlings though, as I'm sure many on here can attest to. Please help me find a home for this baby.

I think Nicole hit it on the head...he's had his "puppy license" revoked. They'll put up with a lot of misbehavior from a pup, bbut once they hit that magical age, the older dogs will let him know in no uncertain terms that he needs to toe the line.

As far as the lap-time, that's pecking order right there. Apollo is convinced that Onyx shouldn't be allowed in my lap, and he'll grumble and growl and glare to try and make him move. I put him in a down stay and continue to love on Onyx. Once Onyx is done (never takes him very long, he get's too hot laying on the couch) I'll invite Apollo up and let him have his time.

What a darling baby. She just wanted to help Mom!!

**sigh** I was such a bad Secret Santa. I *cannot* wrap gifts. Apparently, I'm all thumbs when it comes to wrapping paper. (I'm the person they made those wicked cool bags for!!) So I placed all the pressies in my mailing box, and the Pups wrote a letter (via my opposable digits) to go on top.

With the trama she associates with the collar...you might try a harness instead. There's a couple of harnesses out there that have a "handle" that you can grab that works just like a short leash. Just a thought...
