Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Saying Hi
« on: May 11, 2005, 01:43:34 pm »
Just to introduce ourselves.

I live in England and am owned by three dogs :D. My first dog is Cressy a 10 year old Weimaraner who has been plagued by ill-health, then Freddy a 3 year old rescue Welsh Springer who is starting to compete in agility and finally my big puppy........B rice is nearly 8 months old and is an adorable Deerhound. This is my first 'big dog' and he is a gem, he is so gentle and loving. He has just started his showing career and is enjoying himself hugely (at least all his paws stayed on the ground for a few moments for the judge to see him properly :-[).

I look forward to reading through the topics.

Deerhound Discussions & Pictures / Getting your Deerhound to sit
« on: May 11, 2005, 01:35:45 pm »
My Deerhound pup is nearly 8 months and sits beautifully when he wants to ;). I was advised by my trainer not to ask him to sit until he was regularly sitting of his on accord. Now I want him to sit I can not get him to!!!!! He is clicker trained and is normally very responsive to training but this is a block. I lure, he stands on his back legs or backs away.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I am wondering bout freeshaping him to a sit but with two helpers (my welsh springer and my weimaraner) it is hard to devote long sessions whic I fear may be needed.
