I tried the Yellow peg thing....didn't work. Plus Dennis ran over it with the lawn mower. How the H#ll do you no see a bright yellow peg! :-\

D'oh! I actually was thinking about getting one of those yellow pegs but I guess I won't bother.

Grrr. Must figure something out. Maybe sprinklers are the way. They just lifted a bigtime water restriction in my area, luckily, so that could actually be an option for me...

Hi all,
I am moving to a new house in a few weeks and the yard... the yard is majestic and beautiful. Incredibly well kept... and GREEN... like nothing I have ever seen.
Enter my pack of dogs. Maybe you can see where this is heading. :P

Does anyone have any clues, tips, ideas, experiences with some kind of way to keep my future lawn from turning yellow/brown within the first week? I have never bothered trying to keep a pretty lawn before because I have always lived in rentals but I am buying this house! So it's a different story!

One thing I thought of was I wonder if dogs fed a raw diet have healthier waste that wouldn't damage the lawn as bad. Any ideas?

THANKS! :)

Ahhhhhhh.... ok.

Actually this is all really good news because that means training will probably work. I was thinking it was instinct from her genetics. But this is a way better problem to have!

Thanks for the perspective!

IMHO, guarding things in the house is a separate issue from guarding the yard.  What exactly is Mokey doing with the toys, food bin etc?  If she's not allowing the other dogs near those things, that doesn't sound like typical Pyr guarding to me.  I have to agree that you need to make sure that she understands that you control the resources and those are YOUR toys, food etc.

Thanks Ursa, now I see how those are two separate behaviors.

In the house, yes she is growling and not letting the other dogs come near the food bin or the toys. I guess this is just "bad dog" behavior and not necessarily "guardian dog" behavior!

Oh, you have got me crying over here. :'(

It's so sad when our babies don't get along together. Sounds like you put lots and lots of time and effort and love into trying to make things work. But in the end it I believe you did exactly the right thing for everyone. To me it doesn't sound like failure at all. Only a strong person could do everything you did.

I hope everyone adjusts well to all the changes. Best of luck to you.

She is beautiful! And so lucky to be rescued by you!!! I think Danes love being around other Danes. I'm sure Athena will make her feel very welcome and show her the ropes of what it's like to be in a loving home.

I LOVE hearing rescue success stories and I think you are wonderful for giving a 5 year old dog a chance.

Awesome. Congratulation s.

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. It must be utterly heartbreaking. :'(

Unfortunately every story I have ever heard of people trying to keep wolf hybrids as pets has ended similarly to this. They are simply not the same thing as a dog.

Ramses definitely needs to be in the hands of someone who has a lot of experience and understands the liabilities involved with keeping him.

I hope everything works out the best it can for all involved.

Hi and welcome!

Cute new friend you've got there! I bet once he's neutered, it won't be as hard to put weight on him. Most of the intact male dogs I know are really super lean.

A few years back my ex-boyfriend and I adopted a Dane who was incredibly thin, and I remember it taking a good amount of time getting her looking healthy. In addition to high quality kibble we "supplemented" her with plenty of cottage cheese if I remember correctly... ::) :D  I still see her now and then and she stays on the thin side. I feel like it's a common issue with this breed.

Good luck!

I did notice the Dane looked afraid of the judge- maybe a bit too timid. But gorgeous nonetheless.

The working dogs were all adorable. My favorite was the Tibetan mastiff. That COAT!!! :o

Sporting dogs are up! I always forget how much I love the setters!

Ooooh show dogs are so beautiful. It takes a lot to make me want another dog... but it's starting to happen... watching dog shows is dangerous! ;) :D

Westminster time!
I tuned in late only to find I missed the hound group!! At least I can watch the working dogs tomorrow night. But I watched online and saw the Scottish Deerhound that won the hound group... so beautiful!!! My boy Patrick almost looks like a purebred Deerhound but he is leaner like a greyhound. Anyhoo, I love those scruffy hounds so much and I am going to tell Patrick that one if his distant relatives was on tv. ;)

Can't wait to see the Danes tomorrow night!
