I love that post!  So well put!  Funny story: One day, I left, forgetting to crate Neo.  I was gone for a few hours and when I returned he had been very busy.   It was the oddest, most uncanny experience.  "I" was lieing in the middle of the living room floor.  Neo had gone in to my closet and brought out shoes and clothing - which was not weird in itself, but what he had done with the clothes and shoes was!  Each article was laid out in the place it should be.  Shoes at the bottom, then a pair of my pants, and then a shirt and bra.  Neo was laying on top of the clothes, chewing a flip flop.  I so wish that I had had a camera with me at the time!

Neo hated the kongs until we stuffed them...and even then once the peanut butter and treats were gone, so was the obsession.  That is when I added the rawhide bone with the dabble of peanut butter (just to get him interested).  Those seemed to keep his interest even when the peanut butter was gone.

I had the same problem with Neo when he was growing up.  My trainer at the time had me spread "doggie Hor De Vours" around the house.  The Hor De Vours were made up of Kongs filled with peanut butter and biscuits.  She also told me that when I found Neo chewing on something he shouldn't - my favorite shoes, for example - I needed to tell the shoe it was bad  :D and replace it with a bone.  When Neo started chewing on the bone (with a little help from the dabble of peanut butter that I spread on it) I praised him.  I lost a lot of shoes before that, but when I started with the kongs and bones, slowly but surely we corrected the problem.  Boy did we go through a lot of bones in the first 2 years!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Does Anyone Have an Allergic Dog??
« on: July 07, 2005, 08:28:17 am »
After I moved to Southern California, Neo started to break out.  At first I thought it was mites, so I took him to the vet.  I was told that Neo had allergies and that dogs with allergies were very common in my area.  Soooo, we started giving him Vetalog shots to sooth his (and my) discomfort and inhibit his breakouts.  He was constantly licking and scratching and had little soars all over his tummy, rump and toes.  He was getting shots once a month.  The once a month shots have stopped working and I am frustrated.  Does anyone have any ideas or input?

He did make himself right at home!  I absolutely love him - he snuggles with my "Danetiff" Neo and follows him around the house...when he is not following me around the house!

Thanks - it was a chore trying to bath them!!  Finally, I trained them to get in the tub when I say "IN".  Now if anyone in the house "accidently" says IN - all dogs run to the tub and get in...

Hi Barbara - I have Neo and Noah - Neo is my Great Dane / English mastiff mix and Noah is a foster dog from Burt and Tracy!

11
I have posted a picture of Neo...need to take pictures of Noah.  I am looking for my camera!  I am located in Southern California - Newport Beach area.  Noah came from Gentle Giants Rescue in Norco ( www.gentlegian tsrescue.com ) .  Burt and Tracy Ward run the rescue and they are the most wonderful people - they really love their animals - all of them.  They started with Great Danes and now they have a lot of gentle giants - plus some "little" giants.  If you watch animal planet you may have seen them - they have done a couple of specials...as a matter of fact, I think they are doing another program on VH1 very soon called "Super Hero's - Where are they now?"  (www.gentlegian tsrescue.com/press-tv.htm )  Burt was Robin on the original Batman.

I am going to posting pictures of Noah tomorrow!  I will take pictures of my Great Dane Neo and of the English Mastiff that I am fostering, Noah.

Old English Mastiff Discussions / Help Me with Noah!! OEM - 4.5 years
« on: June 29, 2005, 08:27:25 am »
I have the most wonderful, sweet, loving English Mastiff that I am fostering for a rescue. Noah needs a great home with people that love him...I already love him and he has only been at my home for a week! He gets along with my 4.5 year old great dane wonderfully, as a matter of fact - he is probably More well adjusted. Please help me save Noah's life. He is a super sized snuggle pal! If your interested in Noah or other Gentle Giants please contact me or go to www.gentlegian tsrescue.com - I would love to keep Noah, because he is SUCH a love, but I just can't do it at this time.
