Have a story also about my Girl Malo. She has since passed away, but she was the same. Very passive, until one night my Husband came home Very late from a meeting, Malo and I had fallin asleep on the floor watching TV. He walked in the house very quietly trying not to wake me, and Malo didnt know who it was, so stood up and Growled and Snarled, but she stayed right in front of me.  She was Protecting me, and didnt leave my side.   I thought that was so awesome.  It was really good to know she was there if I ever Really needed her. Malo was my first Rottie, but not my last.  15 years later and I have my 4th, the most Docile Rott ever!!" She is my rescue Baby."  But I know in my Heart she would protect me if I needed it.  You raise ANY Dog in a Loving Home, they will be Loving Dogs. Pitt, Rott, Dobe, it doesnt matter. Ignorance is what gives our Dogs a Bad name, period!!  Thanks for letting me share, and Vent just alittle, lol, Lorna

At 96 pounds, I'm sure Cookie Monster qualifies as a big dog, and is probably about the right weight for a Rottie.  I'm not sure if Cookie is just a long-haired Rott, or if he has something else like Newf in him.  Anybody out there care to take a guess?  I rescued him from the local Shelter after he spent 6 months there, so his heritage isn't known.  He has a docked tail, and his stub is always in motion, indicating his friendliness.
Cookie is too Cute, and yeah, I can see Newf in him.  But, I see Rottie in the first pic, Big Time!!!  The eyes give him away as a Rottie

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Dog Crates

lol, Jen   You have my Dream house.  We are in the middle of re-modeling and am getting my Doggie-Door this summer. Plus, Area's for my Girls, so Hopefully NO More Crates!!  Yeahhhh!!!  All my life growing up, we had Dogs. Never had a Crate. But, someone was always home, so it was never needed.  I live for the day I can give my Girls the freedom they need and require.  I Hate having to have them go to there Crates when we go to work.  Plus, if we go out to a Party ect... We know we have to be home in a couple hours to let them out.   Misty is ok when I tell her I am JUST going to WAWA, she knows I will be home in a few minutes.  But, if I left to go to work, she would tear up the door.  She wants to be by my side 24/7.    Am getting alot of Help from other Dog people and Groups, but if anyone here has any suggestions on Training for Mistys anxiety, I will take them.   :)  Lorna

Hi, we have two Crate trained Dogs.  Only because it is a Must with one of our Rescue's.  We are currently working on training Misty,(she has Major Seperation Anxiety) and still gets Very upset if I leave, and scratches apart the doorway.  Has already ruined our new French Doors.  She is getting better, but not enough to leave her alone for any length of time.  Lady, our Rottweiler Rescue is a Dream, and could be left on her own, but we would never leave Misty in a Crate and Lady free. It just wouldnt be fair, and Lady is so mellow, she just walks in her Crate, no prob.  They arent in there longer than a few hours at a time mostly, only occasionally it will be more then 5 hours.  They have water, like for a rabbit on there crate, and blankets. I really HATE Crating my Girls, but until Misty is trained, it is a Must unfortunalty.  Training is easy, I even had a Rottie Pup that slept in one at night. We just said Nite,Nite!!  And she went right in.  Lorna

That's right Christie, and I didn't even mention his ability to get stuck under our bed when he is dreaming!  And he has the fantastic capability of doing that with regularity too! ;D

LOL, Lady just Loves to sleep on my Husbands side of the Bed and Dream about running, and of course her back legs are always touching the wall so she wakes him up all the time.  It drives him crazy!!  Also, she is the Loudest snorer, ommggg!!  Thank God she cant fit under our Bed.  Lorna

I've never seen this show, I don't think, unless it's the ones w/ the famous judges?

Anyway, some of my dogs various and assorted talents include:

Sitting on the couch on his butt while his front feet are on the floor so that he can watch tv in comfort.

Rolling in the grass at least 6 times a day (More if he just had a bath). ::)

Going for tractor rides. 8)

Chasing squirrels (a long-time favorite!) ;D

Snoring. :-X

Helping to clean sliding glass doors by licking them clean. :(

Shaking his head sending drool flying.  (Even onto the ceiling.) ???

Walking back and forth in the back of the Jeep causing it to rock sideways. ::)

The perenniel spring time favorite...get ting sprayed by a skunk (twice). :'(

But his best trick is just being his old lovable self.  Wouldn't trade him for all the dogs who can do fancy tricks in the world!   :)

LOL ;D ;D ;D

I completely agree that your dog has many special talents that make him a star in your eyes....lol

They are the best kind of things a dog can do....things that bring smiles to your face on even the most blue of days.

Christi
Ditto here too, my Girls dont do anything that would get them on that Show, but I think that is the Best Talent all of our Dogs have, and that is making us Smile.    Lorna

I am owned by an almost 9 year old Rottie, Ebony. Ebony and I really enjoy working together. Ebony plays Agility and is in the upper level in all except USDAA which we have only attended a couple of their trials and that was back when she was only 3 years old. Many year later we do agility here in the states and since we live in Maine we also go to Canada frequently. Ebony also does tracking and herding, she has her CD but we never went back after we discovered agility. Ebony still plays agility as a matter of fact we just returned a week or so ago from Dartmouth NS at a CPE trial and Ebony whooped my Aussie's tush in their jumpers run by almost 4 seconds. Ebony really loves the game.

I would Love to do that kind of thing with my Lady, you are so lucky!!  Good Luck
