General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Raw Paws
« on: April 11, 2006, 05:00:33 am »
Sorry we haven't been able to be on here for awhile!  We have a new addition to the family and everyone is getting used to Sydney including Herbie.  Anyhow, Herbie was at daycare on Saturday and he played for a while and now his paws are all raw.  The skin is peeled off of some of his paws and he could barely walk on Sun & Mon - today he is obviously feeling a lot better (barking and trying to run around!).  I wanted to know if anyone else had this problem and if so how long does it take to heal?  We're throwing Herbie a huge 1st Bday party for him on Sunday and wanted to make sure he'll be OK by then.  He's acting a lot better than Sun & Mon???

Keeping track of Herbie's weight has been a challenge.  We do it the oldfashioned way by picking up his big butt and standing on the scale.  He is now 10 months old, 110lbs and 32" at the shoulders.  Don't know how much longer we can weigh him at home.

Holiday Things / Herbie Says Thank You SS
« on: December 24, 2005, 03:52:53 am »
Thanks to Herbie's Secret Santa (AKA Nina, Tim, Harley, and Dilbert).  As you can see in the pictures, Herbie needed almost no assistance shredding the wrapping paper from his wonderful gifts.

Merry Christmas!

Finally have the pictures...

We live in Portland, OR and it snowed over the weekend.  I've never lived anywhere that's snowed before (just moved from Hawaii) and Herbie's never seen snow either.  It was a lot of fun and Herbie was the biggest dork!  He kept licking the street and sidewalks.   ;D

Boo is a great name - she is really cute.  Herbie is really clumsy too - he's pretty nerdy but that's whats great about him!  Just be careful because they get hurt real easily - bumping into walls when running, tripping, or just about anything.

Oops!  It kept saying that the post didn't go thru but I guess it did...??  The pics are too big and I don't know how to shrink it so I have to wait until my husband gets home to do it for me.  Will post asap when it's done.

Sorry! :-[

Hi!  My bulldog, Alexis, would get rashes like that too.  My vet told me to clean the area gently with hemmorhoid pads and then put Gold Bond powder on it.  It totally works and it keeps the area dry without hurting her.  Oh, the only embarrassing part is buying the hemmorhoid pads   ;D

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Separation Anxiety, real or myth.
« on: December 14, 2005, 10:28:54 pm »
Herbie has a bad case of separation anxiety!  It doesn't matter how many toys or people are around, if I leave he goes nuts.  He doesn't even care about food or treats!  He follows me everywhere - even into the bathroom.  I think I molded him into this situation because when we first got him I was working at home so I was with him 24/7.  I never wanted to leave him because I wanted to make sure he doesn't chew on anything or go pee everywhere.  He got really really attached so now we are trying to teach him that it's OK to be alone.  It's getting a little better but it's a lot of work!  Oh, we tried drugs - it didn't work! ??

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Greenies warning...

WOW!  That's what happend with Herbie!!!  The daycare gave him 1 for the first time and I asked if it was safe and they said that it's really good for him....  Herbie didn't move all day after eating it and finally that nite he threw a gigantic piece (half of the bone) of the greenies bone!  We never gave him greenies again.
