Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Any ideas on correcting marking?
« on: November 09, 2005, 03:17:38 pm »
Our mastiff (1.5 yr male) and our cocker spaniel also (3 yr old male) are in a marking war. It's not all the time but enough to make you say HELP!!!!!

They only mark things when we are gone and both are guilty due to height factor.

I feed the cocker before the mastiff to maintain the pecking order and only give lovin's when both are calm and ready to be loved.

Any suggestions woul dbe helpful.

We live in PA and a small feed company out of Allentown makes Anamaet, it's made out of deer and has a very good protein level with in the recommended limits. We feed Khan that with cut carrots, mashed potatoes, and a can of dog food to give it some different flavor.

Our feed store has a beautiful husky that has been raised on the stuff and he is really healthy with good muscle and coat.

Aren't those brindles just beautiful!!!

Our Khan is a beauty too.....big baby's.

Where did you adopt him from? Khan is from Odin and Juno.

Photo is of Khan around his age. You'll find out you can't hold them to weigh them much more ;D,  Khan will be 1 in August and is still shaped like a race car.

Old English Mastiff Discussions / Re: Trip to the Vet

I know your fear factor. All I can say is Khan is afraid of big dogs. He is fine with dogs that are cocker size, but he has gotten use to the other size dogs now. We have been trying to introduce him to all sizes, types, and behaviors. Keep trying it, it will get better if you make the boundries clear in dog terms.

(Dog Whisperer is a great read).

As far as the vet, did he discover anything wrong? Was she physically sore and acting out? Has it been awhile since she saw him? Take her out as much as you can and introduce her to new places, people, and things. (As long as you can maintain control) It does sound like she has went back into a fear stage, keep up the outside of the house visits so she gets use to things again. It's crazy what they actually fear.

What I was concerned with was Cystrine, Kidney Failure, Blindness,Wobbler's, allergies, ect.

I was concerned with this, I know that there are breeders who have excellent healthy lines but I don't show, breed, or anything else other than have couch potatoes who love to play and lean.

Would I own an OEM? Yes, if the right one came along.

I heard American Mstiff and I had to speak...

I love OEM's and AM's I have owned 2 AM's and have vistited Flying W. For me and my family the AM fits well. OEM's have health issues that I didn't want to deal with. AM's are the same as OEM's and who cares about the drool.... Slingers are good for a laugh.

Behavior wise they are how you raise them.

I know this is nuts, but I want an Apricot Mastiff now. My middle daughter (and other female of the house) is going to college and I have another bedroom available for a big slinger/couch potatoe.

I think it's my way of coping with empty nest  syndrome or the fact that the testostreone level in the house will now be 4 to 1.

What do you all think?

Khan doesn't know that he is a big dog. He thinks he is a Cocker Spaniel 8)

Khan is know about 9.5 months and weighs around 140. I have the opposite problem, he is afraid of other large dogs, and will drop or bark and back away when approached. we are working on it ::)

Hello,

I am also sorry for your loss, There is a mastiff on petfinder in the Tom's River HS that needs a home she looks to be a very sweet girl. Give it a whirl, when you rescue a mastiff they tend to settle in nicely and give you back more than you could ever expect ;D
