We're going to the vet today at 4:00.  I'm so curious to see what the vet says... I would love to know if there is something specific triggering this, if that can even be determined.  All I know is, I want my sweet, loving Maddox back!

Thanks so much Patrick.  I plan to set him up with a behaviorist this week.  It really helps to hear positive advice from people, as this has just been stressing me out like crazy.  One friend said "maybe he's just getting to the age where his real personality is coming out" and that made me really sad... to think that there was nothing I could do to help.  I don't give up that easily though.  He's a great pup with amazing potential, and I'll definitely spare no expense to get him through this.  Thanks again for the encouragement.

in the last 2 months my 11 month old Rottweiler/Lab mix, Maddox, has started showing signs of fear driven aggression.  I plan to find a behavior specialist to help with the situation, but I'd love some advice.  It started with barking at homeless people in the park, and shying away from people petting him.  -Now- I'm scared.

Two weeks ago, he escaped a friend's backyard during a thunderstorm, and when the neighbor tried to bring him back to the house, he bit her thumb!  I was mortified, but thought it must have been the storm that made him scared.  But just yesterday I dropped him off to play with a different friend's dog, and the two apparently escaped the fence and ran to a neighbor's yard, where Maddox then allegedly started fighting with their dog (i've never seen him be aggressive towards a dog before, even one that's attacking him) so they called Animal Control.  Somehow my FRIEND's dog ended up being picked up by mistake, and Maddox was just hanging out back in the same yard when we went to pick him up.

He growls at the vet, barks ferociously at people from the car, and all of this in the matter of a few months!  What is going on!?!?!?  What happened to my awesomely well-behaved, well-trained dog?  I can't just treat this like a "phase" ...I don't trust him at all!

I thought I was doing things right--He's not allowed on the bed or furniture, sits/works for food, treats, leash, etc.  Walks out doors -behind- me, heels, etc.  What should I do?  Anybody?

Mixed Breed Pictures / Re: Pictures of Maddox the Swiss Rottador :)

Barley (the saint/aussie) is my best friend's dog... he is such a sweetheart!   its so funny to watch him run, because he's got the spirit of an aussie (agile, quick, sly) but the saint in him makes him so floppy and awkward, that he just hops around and plows into things.  Maddox adores him!

I'll make sure to keep an eye on my pup in case any of you dognappers try to pull anything...  :)

1. his online picture from the atlanta humane society...  that made me toss and turn all night and show up an hour early to meet him
2. sleeping in his new crate
3. cuddling with ducky
4. hangin with his best friend Barley, a Saint/Aussie mix
5. adorable mugshot

My pup had a biting phase too... a couple of things that helped were: 1. having a toy handy and doing the "redirect/replace" method, where he'd bite me, I'd say "NO!" and then put the toy in his mouth and say "good boy!"  2. letting him play with other dogs helped some, because they taught him how hard he could bite without hurting them.

It's a frustrating time, I know, because you want to play with him so badly but don't want to be bleeding!  Also, he's probably starting to teeth, and a great trick my mom taught me was to wet an old washcloth, tie it in a knot and freeze it.  just watch the pup to make sure he doesnt swallow it!  its very soothing to their gums.

hope you find -something- that works!  good luck!

Yeah i've been trying to come up with some silly cross-breed names, like Swiss Rottador...  I fell in love with the Bernese and Swissy's coloring, and that was actually what caught my eye at the shelter.  I'll post some more pictures soon!  This is such a great website... makes me feel normal for being obsessed with my pup--haha

Hey awesome!  I live in Midtown, right next to Piedmont Park... which is like living next to Disney World for a puppy.  Do you and your canine crew ever make it out here?

Haha thanks!  I'm thinking time will tell a lot because mixed breeds can always surprise you with how they turn out!  I appreciate the help!

Hi everyone!  This is my sweet puppy, Maddox.  He was 3 months old in this picture, and weighed about 25 lbs.  Now he's 5 months and weighs 40.  I've had guesses of Lab/Rottweiler, Lab/Swissy, Rotty/Dane, etc. and I never know what to say when people ask me what he's made of!  Any educated guesses from the big dog owners?

Thanks!!
Taylor
