they are two separate breeds! the ECT has a longer muzzle, longer legs and is taller than the Newf! their undercoat is not as dense as the Newfoundland's, as well. those are good enough reasons to be considered a separate breed. ..

thank you! they're treated as a separate breed because they ARE a separate breed. anyone who knows both breeds at least moderately well can see that they just look different... not to mention that the ECT are usually also more active in temperament than the Newfoundland.

well, in that case, hit it! :D

here is my furry little friend, both hungry and tired, so he decided to rest his furry little toosh after romping around all day 'round while he ate...

I hope I'll be able to put up a pic of a Landseer ECT soon... but not that I'm not proud of my little Hocky, as well!

Hello everyone! I only joined today and I can already see this place is full of heated discussions and friendships-in-making, so I'm looking forward to being part of it all.

I simply love ALL animals (except mosquitoes!) and as my user name clearly states, I'm a big fan of the Landseer ECT breed, though I also very much like many others, such as West Highland White Terriers, Newfoundlands, Great Danes...and I'm also quite partial to adopting those poor, homeless, and ever so sweet mixed breeds.

I hope we can all be good friends...afte r all, we already have something in common: a great passion for everything canine!  :)

well, actually, all you who claim Landseer is not a breed...you're WRONG!

it's a fully recognized (except in the States and Canada, but they're looking into it) breed called the Landseer ECT, which stands for the European Continental Type... and it's, by the way, not smaller but bigger than the Newfoundland. thank you...
