Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: more stupid kids. so sad
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:25:42 pm »
Fortunatly I have  only had this problem once. I'd guess that WAY more than half of the people in Maine have dogs, so most kids around here know better than to do that. They will come a safe distance from my dogs and ASK if it's ok to touch them, or come right out and ask if the dog is friendly. I'm very impressed.  I have the problem more with adults who try to walk right up to them. My dogs are not aggressive but it still makes me mad. It's not a smart thing to do, and besides I wouldn't want someone walking up to my son and say "he's cute, I'm going to give him a hug" Or "wow, nice butt lady, I'm going to grab it"  My dogs are my babies and I wish people didn't think it was ok to just start fondeling them without asking!

Bills & Other Legislative Acts / Re: New Las Vegas Law
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:18:43 pm »
Intereting topic.
First of all I am opposed to BYB. I believe in neutering (all of my animals have been done except one...the vet didn't think she's survive the surgery)
HOWEVER, we have a billion laws in this country that govern nearly every single thing we do from the moment we get up till long after we've fallen alseep again. I don't agree with legislating to the lowest common denominator. Stupid people will be stupid, no matter how many way you outlaw it. Criminals will be criminals no matter how many ways you outlaw it. Only the good, honest reasonable people will follow the laws anyway, and these are the people I trust to be honest and reasonable regardless of the laws. Make registration cost an extra $25. and good breeders will have to pay it. Dishonest BYB will simply not register their dogs. So who does this law really affect? They only affect the people who obay them, and that's not who the law was made for, is it?
Apply this theory to any law... Ban guns and only criminals will have them (I would have robbed that bank, but my gun was banned yesterday???)
Regulate breeding and BYB will simply fly under the radar. Heck, I had 2 of my dogs for a year before I registered them. Why, because I think it's stupid that I have to pay yet another fee to add a member to my family. Did anyone notice that my dogs weren't registered? Nope. So what did that tell me? It is just another stupid fee. My town also regulates how many animals a person can have. Huh?  Exchange the word dog with child. Kids cause more damage and commit more crimes than dogs do, should we regulate that so stupid people won't reproduce?
I'll take my mountain top cabin farm life so people will keep their laws off my body..... because I'm not one of the stupid people and I shouldn't be "lawed" as though I am.
And this is America...peop le have the right to be stupid.

Jamie!!!  I can buy stuff to spray on Finn to make him not stink so bad between baths?????  And you have kept this a secret because.....???  LOL    I'll be placing an order soon. We're fixing the house up to sell right now so my husband has some stupid idea that I shouldn't do any shopping till it's sold lol     but as soon as someone makes an offer... I saw a few different things I just gotta have.
Anyone want to buy a really cute 2 bedroom house in Maine???? For those of you who live in other states you'd be so suprised at how cheap real estate is here.

Welcome! I feel left out...I don't have a pyr friend  :-\   But I do have an Irish Wolfhound friend, Finn (Captain Drippy Beard). He doesn't slobber but he doesn't swallow his last mouthful of water and it runs out of his mouth as he walks around. Wet beard=sloppy kisses!

Welcome to the family!
I'm Vicki, Mamadog to an Irish Wolfhound named Finn (Captain Drippy Beard) and two sheltie mix girls, Sakwa and Tali. (We also have 2 cats and a beta fish) I'm from Maine and I hear what you're saying about needing lots of space! We're in the process of selling our little city house and building a log cabin on 15 acres in the country (happy happy joy joy!!) AND that means I can have another puppy!!!!

So we have Big Paws, and now there is a "small paws" version too. I want a group just for IW's called Crappy Paws! We can all chat about how crappy our dogs paws are and how many crappy footprints we have to clean up every day. Steppin in his own crap...good thing he's cute!

Nicker,
If you are happy about having a job than I am happy for you!!!
I don't know why someone would be happy about having a job, cause every one I've ever had has sucked! But some people like to do things like...eat or pay a light bill from time to time and then jobs come in handy. LOL
Good luck Sweetie!!

I'm not familier with this either. I will have to do some research too. I don't worry so much about Finn having an illness as I do that he will have something and I won't know cause I don't know what to look for. Thanks for the heads up and if anyone finds out more could you please post?

How old is your IW? He or she is beautiful and shaggy!!!

Nicker!!  My computer went on strike, probably because of the long hours I was making it work! So I shut off my internet (since it doesn't do much good without a working computer). I've got it fixed enough to do SOME things and I get free internet through school now but it's DIAL UP!!!  I only get 50 hours a month so I'm still not on much.... But I have missed you big much!
So no, it's not just you... I have not been here, but I'm getting back into the swing of things!

I didn't even think of that! I did give each one a full dose. I have been doing flea baths, brewers yeast, garlic...anyth ing I could think of. I even resorted to picking the feals off by hand once cause I didn't want to irritate his skin by bathing him again. I will keep a good eye on the all and see how it goes. If they stay flea free I won't dose again and I'll try splitting a does between them. How long after a dose does it take for the fleas to die? They got theirs at about 4 today and they're all still scratching.
