well, I don't have a basement, my home is single level....so maybe need to figure out a way to block access to the kitchen....but anything the cats could go through, the dog would be able to bowl over....I'm hoping that the cats just adjust to a dog in "their" house ::)....my cats are mellow & small (one is 4 lbs, the other is 10)....this guy is 70....and not so mellow :D

adopting my new Aussie soon....he's 4 yrs old & 70 lbs....I have 2 spoiled Persians who are going to be quite annoyed w/me....what's the best way to get them to adjust to my new doggie?

(NO, feeding them to the doggie as lunch or dinner is not an option! :D)

OK, I have a limited budget, but will be adopting an Aussie soon (already have 2 Persian cats).  Needless to say, the 'hair factor' will now become huge.....SO... .need to get a good vacuum cleaner.  Have both carpet & wood flooring.  Any recommendation s would be most welcome!

yeah, it was his face that got me....I swear he smiles! and as for him having to re-dig a hole....never thought of that!  and it's funny ::) ;D...I'm thinking maybe I need to re-think this entire hole-digging thing.  maybe I can train him to bring me the flowers instead of hiding them somewhere..... .

hhhmm.....any size hole would do.....just didn't want you to think I was having him dig ditches LOL!  I know he'll grab new plants and/or potting soil if he decides he wants attention while you're gardening (his curr. owner told me he'll take them far away from where you're working :D)....so, figured if I gave him a job of some sort, he'd think he was helping & getting the attention he wanted....... ;)

Australian Shepherd Discussions & Pictures / Bonding w/older Aussie
« on: April 03, 2009, 06:50:12 am »
I'm adopting a 5 yr old Aussie who has had the same owner all that time.  He is what's considered a "velcro" dog & is very very attached to her.  No doubt he will miss her alot.  What's the best way to bond w/him?

OK....adopting an Aussie....he's extemely smart & very well trained.....bu t also kinda goofy ;D...so here's my question....
I like to garden....do you think it would be possible to train him to dig the holes for new plants (no, not big holes, little ones for things like pansies)?  And, if I do that, am I asking for him to dig holes everywhere in an effort to continue to 'help' me?

I'm going to adopt an Aussie, too.  So, I'm all ears on this one....mine is 5 yrs old

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Aussie w/nose problem.....
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:03:30 am »
According to his current owner (she's bread & trained them), she's taken him to 5 vets and there is no exact diagnosis or name for it.  It is similar to Collie Nose.  It's not going to prevent me from getting him, just wondering what to expect and if it is going to become a serious concern.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Aussie w/nose problem.....
« on: April 01, 2009, 04:01:03 am »
Hello! :)
I'm thinking of adopting a 5 yr old Australian Shephard....gr eat dog....only he's got some sort of allergy that he takes constant antibitotics for....his nose is all read & raw looking. :-[ His current owner had all his vet records, and biopsies, etc show no cancer or anything, just some allergy. Is this normal? Will it get worse? Shouldn't I be concerned about the constant antibiotics? Wondering what I should expect. Is this a serious issue? ???
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
