Transporting & Traveling With Dogs / Re: Airline Crate suggestions

Well....

I investigated this very thoroughly and in the end got a custom crate made in the UK (from wood) and flew it out to Miami and brought day-z back in that.

There are no off the shelf crates available for our big babies, so it is a case of find someone who can make it to IATA  spec.

Is possible though, and they are much more comfortable for the dog.

Good luck

Hi there,

have been quiet for a while, so hello guys.

Day-z is now in the UK (hurrah) and she is loving the winter weather.

I wondered how much time your Saints spend sleeping - as she is pretty much asleep all day, maybe awake for 1 hour or so in total.  She is not ill at all, but maybe lazy.

Am interested to hear how much your big babies sleep.

Does anyone know where you can get the height extender bars for the crates ?

Thanks

Hi there,

can you tell me where you are getting your crate made and what size you have opted for ?

All of the plastic crates are too small for Day-z and there is no way i want her travelling in anything too small.

Thanks

I feel your pain !

By 1 year Day-z was more or less dry, before that the same story.

We did nothing different, one day she figured it out.  But it would not surprise me if she did it again.

The big saint babies eh.

Gotta love 'em

Hi there,

I don't think there is a wrong choice to be made here.  I love Day-z (short hair Saint) with all my heart but I may well get her a friend who will maybe be a Newf or another short hair Saint - my decision was based on the fact her coat is thinner than a Newfs and we live in Florida.  But, i may be moving somewhere cooler soon (UK) and so she can have whatever she wants as a friend.

A fun decision if ever there was one...

Good luck

Jill

Day-z does the same thing.  It takes me 20 mins to coax her out when we get to daycare and it usually her seeing one of the other dogs that does it.

we (well Day-z mainly) are on Iams large breed puppy food, and after seeing the news on them i am thinking of moving Day-z off it.  But, seeing as she has only just got back from the vets with upset tummy, i think i may wait a while.  I planned to change her food at 2 years anyway and so we will at the very latest will go on to something kinder to the world then.  When she has her blood tested next week, if her creatinine is still not right she might be going on to kidney food anyway.

well, we empathize.....

bit, it is so nice when they finally manage to go the whole night dry (and when you start to be able to sleep)

Actually, not just Pyr owners, I don't read up on a lot of breeds but I've heard of it in Saints as well (other breeds too but that is another giant breed at any rate).

At the doggy daycare that we go to, they mentioned that they had a St Bernard before who became quite aggressive when she reached 2 years old and had been fine before.  I must let the Day-z beast know who is the boss.....

I am biased but you do know your dog best.

If you are worried then take her to the vets, better safe than sorry i say...... much to the detriment of my bank balance.

He is going to be one big boy, old Day-Z is a big old arm full and she is 104lb at 18 months.

Big cuddles to the beautiful boy

Day-z and I send BPO Karma Power your way.  Hope it is nothing too serious with Kali.

Hi Jennifer,

love the dogs, and think it is great that you adopted both of them - how could you not have.

I only have one Saint - Day-z who just turned 18 months old - and you are ahead of me in the paw print creation stakes.  I must try harder :)

Welcome aboard.

Hi there,

as an update....

Day-z loves the Purina En food that she has been prescribed and is lively but tired (if that makes any sense).  She seems more like her self.

Runny stool though, so pumpkin shopping tomorrow - but she seems fine apart from that - and she is not going very often so think it will be ok.

Thanks for everyones kind thoughts.

Jill and Day-z
