Hey Chester, think of it like this, all the fun and non of the consequences - if you can be bothered that is.

Ah well it is done now, all that is left is the healing.

Well you guys have made me feel sooo much better.  I am hopeful that things will turn out well.  I will post as soon as i know.

Big baby is probably asleep now and hopefully feeling better than she did when she went in - so that has to be good.

I am just pleased i took her in when i did.

She is a beautiful dog.

She is very lucky to have you, but these things are meant to be.

I am not sure there is anything more pure than the prayers of a child...could anything be sweeter?

Day-z loves children, so this means a lot, thanks Gaby and all xxxxxxxx

I know, at the moment we have chicken and egg kidney failure and diarrhea - I hope obviously that the kidney thing is a temporary thing - but the vet seemed to think not.

I guess as long as she is not in pain i should be grateful.

Thanks for your kind words, it really is appreciated.

Thankyou everybody.  I believe in St Bernard - I really do.

Day-z is probably fast asleep and would probably have been home now if i had not insisted on every test they have ever invented.  However, i think it is best to know and then we can try to manage it.

I think i may just be in need of sleep (I spent the last 2 nights on the sofa next to Day-z for emergency toilet trips that rarely happened.)

Thanks again

Jill

Hi there,

some of you have seen the post: http://www.bigpawsonly.com/index.php/topic,8737.0.html

which has now turned into me worrying myself sick about Day-z who went into the vets with a runny tummy and now is being diagnosed with kidney failure.  I won't know how bad it is until tomorrow morning.

Am not sure what i believe in, but whenever anyone posts on here that their baby needs help i think about them the next day and try and send positive karma.  So, please think of Day-z tonight.  I am hoping that they willl be able to patch her up and send her home and i can do the best i can to manage her kidney disease - but please think kind things for her.

Thank you

Jill

I am very worried too.

All i can comfort myself with is that she is in the best place to be cared for until i can shower her with love (please God let me get the chance).

Well the baby is not coming home this evening, and might have to stay in until Thursday.

When all her results came back, blood is OK, but her creatinine in her kidneys is high at 2.5 - so she is going on an IV and they are watching her.

Maybe the signs of kidney disease - which would be the pits, but at least we can try to control it now we know.

Prayers please.

Thanks and i just wanted to say that i think Teddy is adorable.  I got Day-z at 10 weeks and i am certain you will have a close bond with him due to the age you got him at - shame about the circumstances though.  I love my Saint more than anything and I can see that yours is quite the charmer too.  Day-z talks to me too.

Called the vets, the blood work has come back more or less OK.  She is not too dehydrated but they are hydrating her under the skin.

I have to call this afternoon to see whether she is coming home tonite or tomorrow - but sounds like she will be OK.

Am just so pleased that i took her to the vets.

As of about 1hr ago, Day-z is at the vets with a temperature.  They are doing tests on her and keeping her in - I of course am crying like a baby.....

Thanks very much.

Famine it is then.

I think she feels sorry for herself, she is lying at my feet which is unusual for her.  I will sleep downstairs next to her again and if she is no better in the morning then off to the vet for us it is.

Poor baby.

She is not really sick, but she is not herself :(

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Loose stools (very) - feed or fast ?
« on: March 20, 2006, 06:19:34 pm »
Hi there,

for the last 24 hrs Day-z has very loose stools (like liquid) - apart from that she is fine, not irritable, sleeping fine (i slept on the sofa enxt to her so i know this) - she is not desperate to go outside.  I take her every 2 or 3 hours and she mostly does a very, very, loose stool.  But she does not seem to be ill apart from this.

Question is, should i feed her or not, or feed her with pumpkin in or not ?

I did feed her this morning which i think was a mistake.

If this carries on I will take her to the vets, i did call them this morning and they advised me to give it another 24hrs.

Any advice very, very welcome.

You know what, i think that they pretty much figure it out on their own.  I am from England and in England not so many folk crate train.  But we bought the crate for Day-z and tried, but it did not work, she did whatever she wanted in the crate and she would end up covered in it.  When she was a baby she had her own room downstairs and so i started leaving her in their and not in the crate.  She would sleep one end and go pee the other.  I got her when she was 10 weeks old and she was driven down from Alabama to Miami and the dog psychologist thought that she had become a "dirty" puppy as when she was travelling down she pretty much had to go in the crate.

Anyway, I would hear her moving in her room and would take her out and after about 4 months she was pretty much able to sleep through the night.

If i did it again though, I would have the puppy in my room with me at night - we did not do this as she could not climb the stairs (and i did not want her to for her hips) and she was soon too heavy to carry.

However, I did buy a steam cleaner to sterilise her room and we got through gallons of natures miracle to get rid of the smell reminding her where to go.

I think what i am saying is - they figure it out for themselves and baby bladders need emptying often.

Everytime she walked anywhere when she was a baby i was so worried that she was about to go potty - but eventually it worked and she is all dry now (apart from very minor accidents).

Even though it does not feel like it at the time, it really does get better.  But, sometimes i wonder what it would be like to stay in bed past 7. :)
