This weekend we had a visit with Austin's most favorite boy in the world. His brother (ie. dog walker) Liran who is now a senior in HS and has moved to another neighborhood but comes around especially to hang with his homedogs Austin & Zoey

Well...I just got my shipment of dog chews from SitStay.com and I have to say that the Sams Yams did not go over so well.  I thought Austy would love them since he drools a puddle whenever I make yams for dinner!  He just kinda crunched them up and spit them out all over the carpet.  Not enough butter I guess  ;)  The favorite chewy in my house are still the icelandic fish skins, hands (PAWS) down!!! Vizslas are big chewers so I like to keep a variety of edible chews around. Heres our chewy ranking list:
Elinoras Royal Fish Skins***** Yummmmm
Texas Toothpicks*****
Grandpaws  *****
Macho (bully) sticks **** only Zoey likes these
lamb ears*** dont really last long enough
rabbit ears*** new to us ... wait oh they're gone (not long lasting)
marrow bones ** Zoey just likes to drop them  on the hard floor in the middle of the night!
Sams Yams* these sounded so good

I'd love to know how the sweet potato chews work out for you.

Another New Yorker! We're here in Queens. I love that BarBQ pic!

That post is just sooo disturbing. Why would you ever opt to kill your dogs.  So many other options like finding a rescue organization or kenneling them temporarily. Doesnt this woman have a single friend who would foster them for a bit. sheesh.

Wow! you have been thru a lot! so stressful. When Astin is stressed out  he breaks out in hives all over, sometimes just on his head though. They look like moles. Our vet has recommended benedryl for the hives but you should check with your vet first. I urge you to call your vet and talk. Let them know your situation. Give them the opportunity to do a good thing. The pups & I are beaming good wishes to you from NYC.

We refer to the summer that we got Austin as our summer of piss & sh*t. The boy leaked like a sieve. Anything that went in came right out. ..but all over everything.  ::)  Now that he's all grown up he takes sport in farting. He likes to plant his tutty hole on the nice cool floor and squeak them out. Then he raises one eyebrow thoughtfully and looks around for someone else to blame. NICE.

Wow Beautiful dogs Jenn!  I get the "will they bite me?" thing a lot and I get a few kids in the neighborhood who actually bark at the dogs as we go by (whats up with that!)  so, no suprise, my guys bark BACK!!

Anyone who owns a Vizsla should also get a copy of Versatile Vizsla by Marion Coffman. I learned sooo much from it.  Right now I have two books that I read just to know more in general: The Absolute Beginners Guide to Showing your dog (my current "bible") and Succesful Dog Breeding By Walcowicz and Wilcox - a book passed on to me by my dogs breeder when he retired.

Oh and I also indulge in Bark Magazine! Love the photos and all the upscale shops they advertize. Lots of big dogs features too.

Every day we run into some yutz who will insist on correcting my pronunciation of VIZSLA! and I am too polite to correct them back! and then there are some people so knowledgable that they proceed to inform me of how untrainable and jumpy Vizsla are! Today it was from a woman with two Shitzus! She does know just everything about all dogs though. LOL

When I run into another Vizsla owner I am just soooo happy. I have two and I would never assume that I know everything there is to know about them. I learn something every day.  I have been known to stop my car intraffic to give a shout out to other vizsla owners. ;D I wish there were more places other than the dog shows that my guys could see their own kind. How cool would it be to meet another vizsla for some goofy red dog fun at the dog run.

Oh and about the "Its a rare breed" thing. Here in NYC we get a lot of people who get a dog because it is the dog of the moment! or a "rare" breed or some other status/fashion symbol. Last year you couldnt step off the curb without squishing a pug. This year its chihuahuas!
