Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Re: Paw pad Injury & Recovery
« on: November 27, 2006, 05:21:59 am »
I agree that you should probably visit the Vet. Injuries on paws/pads lead to infections, so it's best to get them on an Antibiotic.

Don't fret though, Apollo was a complete dingle when he was a pup, and completely tore off the top of one pad while running around the block.

I will warn you though....they're probably going to recommend a couple of days *rest* (yeah....right!) and to avoid going outside if at all possible....

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Not Sure How She Did It
« on: November 21, 2006, 11:34:24 pm »
Apollo chews his back toenails *yuck* and this happens all the time with him. We usually just take him to the Vet and she takes them off for him. Otherwise, they can get snagged and then you're talking SERIOUS BLEEDING.

I swear he does it just so he can go drool on the Vet. She's a cutie, and I swear he's got a cross-species crush on her.  ::) ::)

Best bet is to take poor Willow in and have them remove the nail, it's a relatively simple thing, but it saves a lot of pain in case it gets snagged on anything....

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: I can't read her potty language
« on: November 21, 2006, 02:10:21 am »
Apollo *knocks* (gives the door 1 solid swipe with his paw, not really a scratch, more like a solid thump) at the door when he wants out. Where we used to live, they went out a sliding glass door to the backyard, so hanging a bell wasn't an option. I'm trying to remember how we "taught" him, although I think he just "created" the behavior on his own more or less.

It depends on the length of time for my turkeys. If it's a couple of hours...4 max, they're allowed roam of the house. Anything longer, and they get their condo.

Josh and I built the pups a 20 x 20 enclosure (complete with chainlink floor....let's see the digger's get outta that!) and then an 8 x 6 condo. It's got a carpet floor (astroturf) a door, and the rest is closed off to the elements.

We live very remote, so pup-napping isn't a real big concern...besi des which, I'm pretty sure Apollo would leave them pulling back bloody stumps. We've got a heavy duty lock that we put on the door when we're gone, so I'm pretty confident of their safety. The enclosure is 8.5 feet tall, so nothing's climbing in either.

I'd love to leave them free roam of the house all day, but Onyx was a woodchuck in a former life, and sees fit to redesign our furniture at every oppertunity.  ::)

I so envy you!!!! They are one of my Dream Dogs, right alongside a Borzoi!!!!!!

*sigh* I'll just live vicariously through you, ok?

Hmmm, all three have just flat, woven nylon buckle collars. They wear these all the time, and have all of their ID stuff hanging from the. Also, I took a black sharpie marker and wrote our address and phone number in block letters on the collar itself, just incase the ID tags got ripped off for some reason. All three have chips implanted as well...but I'm a fraidy-cat...

When we walk, Zeus gets a Gentle Leader (he's better than a husky at a sled-pull...let me tell you!), Apollo gets a pinch (He doesn't need it usually, but it actually makes people feel better about hiim...bizarre!) and Onyx gets a regular choke chain.

Mine definately aren't the largest on here (all hail The Load)

Onyx - 132lbs
Apollo - 159lbs

and Zeus - ringing in at a whopping 59.5lbs

*lol*

I think she got the Olympus for around $150-200.00. Best bet, head into a camera store and test it out, along with some competitors. I found it real easy to zoom, and the clarity was very impressive.

Oh my stars and garters!!!! That poor pup looks almost identical to my Apollo.....

I hope someone is able to help that poor baby.

I shoot with a Canon 20D that my hubby bought me about a year ago. (as an upgrade from the 10D) My usual ammo of lenses are the 17-40L, 85MM, Nifty-fifty (50MM) or my "big gun" the 70-200L. I'm a hobbiest with a spending problem though...

My girlfriend just bought an Olympus...not sure of the model #, but it's a 6 megapixel. I took the shots at her Birthday extravaganza, and I have to say, for a point-n-shoot, that was one phenomenal piece of equipment. It didn't set her back too much either, if that's a concern.

edited for my atrocious spelling...

I'm so glad you updated us! That makes perfect sence about Isabelle falling down the stairs because of a seizure.

My zoo loves to go places. It doesn't matter where, they love to go. Hubby went out and bought a canopy for our pickup, beacuse he felt it was unfair that only one or two got to go at a time. So now everyone fits, with room for friends! I used to have a Suzuki XL-7 that everyone *somewhat* fit in, (two stood while one had to lay down) but Hubby bought me my dream-car last month (Jeep Wrangler) so now if they righe with me, it can only be two at a time, and we're working on being seatbelted in. (Apollo *detests* being constrained, but that's the rule, so everyone has to abide by it!)

Onyx is a total rag-top dog. The most hysterical thing in our lives was driving up to a traffic light with the top down and Onyx taking up the *ENTIRE* back of the Jeep, and seeing people's faces around us. Onyx loves the jeep the most...Mom plays better music, and runs more errands, which means he gets more treats from people spoiling him rotten!!

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Kirkland foods?
« on: November 02, 2006, 09:01:24 am »
My three boneheads have been on this food for over a year now. We started with Lamb and Rice, but their stools were awful, so we switched to the Chicken and Rice. Much better, and they really like the food. Also, as someone else mentioned, they all have great coats, and their breath doesn't stink.
