I've made it quite clear to both friends and family that if you do not like my dogs, please don't feel it necessary to visit.

I'm sorry, I do not go to other people's houses and attempt to define what they can or cannot have/do in thier homes, the same works in reverse.

Besides, that gets me out of obligatory hosting duties for family get-togethers! (The bright side of every cloud you know...)

This means that one of my girlfriends no longer visits my home. Oh well, we either meet out or don't see each other as often. She's a dog fan (Has 2 Dobes), but hates drool, so Onyx is definately out, and Apollo makes her uncomfortable because "He looks mean." Whatever that means...

We watched the Wiggles for hours. (Lots of Dancing and loudness involved) That kept him up and moving about. We also did some baking, so he got to play with the dough and such. We did art projects and drove remote control cars through the house. (Bumber cars...he was a destructive little tyke!! *lol*)

Basically, anything and everything that we could think of to keep him upright and moving. Just like your Izabelle, the second he was sendentairy for more than a minute, he would doze off, so it became our sole goal to not have him sit down. If she likes to dance, put on some great music and dance as much as possible, or excersise videos...anyth ing like that.

My Mom and I worked together. I was divorced and living by myself, so she came over for the evening to help. I hope your husband is able to get the time off to be there with you. It's much easier when there's at least two people to keep the energy level up.

Hey sweetie - Sorry to hear about the latest episode.

Yup , sleep deprived EEG is just that. You've got to make her completely exhausted. It's very hard...I know when we took Jon is for his, he proved that yes, he can sleep standing straight up. *eye-roll*

Is there anyone who can help you that night/morning? Any relatives you can have come over for a "shift"? It's really important that you follow that schedule exactly, but I know that both of you are going to be completely exhausted, which is going to make it even more difficult.

Keep your spirits up, it sounds like the Doctors are really on the ball here. Let me know if you need anything, or have any questions.

He was ssssooooooo full of himself all day. Trying to herd the kids and the little dogs out of the water.....he FREAKED when Josh went out and was playing in the big breakers. Just doing his job, right?

That's for the lovely comments. I'm so proud of my boys. They were real role-models all weekend. Several people  came to me and complimented me on how well-behaved they all were.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Last Beach trip of the year...
« on: September 28, 2006, 06:15:49 am »
Just thought I'd share some of the pics I took from our last Beach Trip of the year. We invited some of our friends and made a dog park out of the beach. I think at last count we had 7 dogs including my 3, as well as 12 humans in the water....the men were teaching some of the big dogs how to body-surf. These are only half of the pics we took, I'm working on getting the rest sized and put up on the gallery.

Enjoy!

I've never heard of giving Dramamine to dogs, I've always given Rescue Remedy...which does essentially the same thing. Also, Peppermint Oil on the pads of their feet (They like them and it gets in and settles their tummy) is a FABULOUS thing!

For the tots, as has been mentioned, lots of activities to stimulate thier minds.

All the boy-os are on Frontline Plus, and Onyx gets Consequin daily for his joints.

I know we're doing good on that, because ever since we started him in the Consequin, he leaps and bounds around like he's a kangaroo......

A very fat kangaroo.  ::)

*ouch* That's too bad. My best friends are going through the same trouble, only with a Motorhome they purchased. (Our tour bus when the band is on the road.) It got all the way to the State Attorney General's Office, and then they found out that the law states it has to be in the shop 60 days. They're only on day 45.  :( >:( Their attorney is still working on the problem though,(Class-Action!)as this thing is *literally* a rolling death-trap waiting to happen.

The blasted thing's odometer has reset itself three times, and then the Awning rolled out...on it's own....while we were driving down the freeway at about 60mph!!!!!! It sheared off and we're damn lucky there was no one behind us, or it would have went straight through their windshield! And that's just the beginning of the catalog of problems!

I feel your pain dear!

First off....OWWWWWW W!!!! That's gotta be one of the Worst places. There's a reason that legend says it brought the Mighty Achilles down.....

Second, did you happen to notice if *it* had a Rabies Tag???? If not, hie thyself to a Doctor double-quick and get the shot. Then turn around, call Animal Control back, and explain that you had to get a RABIES SHOT, because you were bitten by an untagged mongrel.

Last, Have a *insert drink of choice here* and try to spend the rest of your vacation with only good thoughts dear.

Apolo had that bad habit as well...and was teaching Onyx. *yikes*

While it's cute to see them so happy to see us, and I want my pups to be affectionate, I'm disabled, and a bunch of my friends are my size or smaller, so we needed to nip this little habit in the butt, so to speak. My trainer suggested several things, all of which seem to be doing the trick. Here we go...

First, do not get excited to see the dogs. (Weird, I know.) Keep body posture and voice levels calm and dispassionate.

Do not *appear* to pay any attention to the dog as it approaches. Any attention you grant will be after the dog sits quietly and patiently for it's "reward" of affection and praise.

If the dog "charges" or prepars to launch at you, Raise you knee to their chest level. As they jump, deflect their body with your knee. Don't jab at them or push at them, the knee is simply there to ensure that their body does not make full contact with yours. This will help you maintain your balance and control the situation. (Apollo will wrap his legs around your waist when he jumps, so the result is, he'll take you down with him...the giant meathead!)

Issue the command of Sit when they approach, once they complete the appropriate behavior, only then do you greet them, maintaining a calm tone.

I've got to say, I was a little leary of standing there like a flamingo while a freight train (read: dog) collides with my body, but amazingly enough, it works like a charm. They don't get hurt, and I am not flying through the air like a kite!! We've been trying this for a couple of weeks now, and I've seen a marked change in their behavior already.

Most times they're taking the pictures for one of a couple of reasons.

A) They're Photog-bugs, and they like to take pictures of various things to sharpen their skills. I'm one of these guilty parties, I take tons of pics of other people's pups, it helps me learn what lighting is good for fur, and other various elements that can help my picturees.

B) They've never seen a dog that big, and they just *know* that no one back home is going to believe the story without proof.

C) They've always wanted a dog like yours, and they take the picture so that when they get home, they can begin a search to find one just like yours. Because I'll confess, I'd love to find a pup as handsome and striking as the Lovely Jack!!

I play dress-up all the time for my Music Gigs, and I can't even guess how many Family Photo Albums and Coffee Tables my image now resides in. ( I once googled my stage name...dear GAWD!) It's kinda freaky to think about, but it's the price you pay when you're unusual....be it dog or man.
