Great Pyrenees Pictures / Help me name my new pup :)
« on: July 19, 2006, 12:18:04 pm »
Ok, I am going to do it again ::) I have a new pyr puppy on the way. She was born on July 2 and should be ready to come home on Aug. 27th.  I am looking for a very special show name.  This is the link for the litter:

http://www.toppooch.com/Aneto%20opening%20page.htm

I will need to use the kennel name of Aneto to start the name. I would like to use the name Whiterose on the end. They will be my kennel name.  A combo of the name of the sire and dam would be nice. Fame and Dream are their call names.

This is the sire:

Help me find the perfect name.

Anything Non-Dog Related / I need prayers for my Mom.
« on: June 19, 2006, 08:19:57 pm »
Hi guys, I have not been around much today. My Mom is in ICU. Her blood sugar was a 530 this morning, it is now down to 240 so things are looking up. I know the power of BPO prayer and good wishes, so please send up a little wish for a good night for her.

Dixie Darlin - Summer Fun Girl – June ’06 Champion

Breed of Dog: Great Pyrenees

Birthdate & current age of dog : DOB 01/01/05, Dixie is 1 ½ years old.

Explanation of how you chose the winning outfit: Dixie has on a swimsuit of Mommies. It is from when I would put on a two piece suit.  Dixie did eat the strap off of one swimsuit while taking our photos.  I guess that will teach me to put her is a one piece suit. She does love to show off that cute tummy of hers.

Best/Worst traits of your dog:

Dixie best trait is her ability to make me laugh all the time.  I love to watch her run she does it with such total joy.  She can play for hours on end and never get enough.  She has is now slowing down enough to let me love on her.

Her worst trait is how much she likes to beat up Sugar Bear, even when he wants to sleep.

Best Liked/Least Liked food/treat of your dog:
Dixie will only take a treat if she does not have anything better to do.  She does love bully sticks, and wants Sugar Bears after she is finished.  Every night when she gets in bed she gets four popcorns or animal crackers.

Favorite Toy:
Her favorite toy is anything that Sugar Bear has or wants. She has an orange bouncy ball that she loves to catch.  Sometimes she will even bounce it for herself by dropping it out of her mouth. Tug of war with Sugar Bear is fun because she wins every times.

Favorite place to hang out in the house:
Dixie likes to hang out under the computer table. At work she loves to take naps in the shower, under the desk, or on top of Sugar Bear in his crate.  She likes to move to the entry door when it is about time for the UPS pickup.  I think she has a crush on our UPS man.

Best friend (dog friend) and why:
Her best friend is Sugar Bear, since she has to spend 24/7 with him.

Favorite memory with this dog:  This is an easy one. After we picked her up at the airport, she licked my ear all the way home.  That night I put her in her room with Sugar Bear.  I did not want her to use the doggy door and go outside during the night so I put her in the play pen we built for Sugar Bear.  I go into the kitchen to get them some cheese for night time treat.  Before I could even get the cheese she has jumped out of the play-pen and is at my feet.  This playpen has sides that are about 30” tall. So we are going to be so smart for the night and staple chicken wire over the top so that see will stay in the play pen in their room.  Well during the night she got out between the two pieces of chicken wire and was playing with Sugar Bear in their room.   After that I had to just chill out and understand Dixie is going to go where Dixie wants to go.

I changed the date to the correct year, and added a photo of Dixie in the playpen she jumped out of the first day home.

I guess Sugar Bear wants to go to a doggy spa and have a mud facial.  ::) He was so clean just yesterday.

He thinks that Pippin should go with him. ;)

A few weeks ago I found out that the one other person in my family without diabetes has it.  :( So now I am going to get fit and healthy.  ;D I need to lose at least 30 lbs and lower my stress level.  I am walking every morning and each afternoon, my goal is making 10K + steps each day.  I was thinking for those days I do not want to walk that extra mile it would help if I had some one to chat with about it or at least posted it some where.   So I am going to put on my pedometer each day and see if I can average 6-8 miles a day.  I have been doing it for about 3 weeks. I am getting a little down since there has not been much of a weight loss.  Here are my yesterday stats:  6.97 miles, 715 calories, 3.01 hours, and 16369 steps.

Dixie is loving it since she gets to run around the fence line so much to guard mommy while she walks.  Sugar Bear on the other hand goes around once and goes back to his room our will watch me under an oak tree.

Cricket could use our good wishes and a little cheer today. There is a 20 year old cat in her family that they are going to help go to the bridge today.

Sending you hugs.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / COCOA MULCH
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:08:05 pm »
Please pass this on to all of your animal loving friends....
(Cross post freely!!!!)

          COCOA MULCH

Sent to us by Meagan Karnes, of Fur Crazy Pet Care.
Yesterday, one of our clients experienced a tragedy and wanted me to
pass a special message along to all of my dog loving friends and
family. I was hoping you could forward this to your contact list.
My client was the doting owner of two young lab/golden retriever
mixes. Over the weekend, they purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in
their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to
keep cats away from their garden. They set the bag in their yard. Their
dog Calypso, decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat so she
broke into it and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which
was typical of her when she would get into something she shouldn?t have
gotten in to. She was not acting lethargic in any way. The next day,
Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Half way through
the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly. Although the mulch had
NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the
company?s website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs. Denise (Calypso?s
mom) wanted me to pass this information along so no one had to
experience the same tragedy she went through.
  In Loving Memory of Calypso.
Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that "It is
true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch
can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each
individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it."
True information about the mulch can be found here -
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoa.htm This site gives the
following information:
Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and
other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called
"Theobromine".

It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really
attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths
already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Just a word of caution ? check what
you are using in your gardens and be aware of what your gardeners are
using in your gardens.

Theobromine is the ingredient that is used to make all chocolate ?
especially dark or baker's chocolate ? which is toxic to dogs.

Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine,
a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A
dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao
bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis
of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the
presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.
Please click here to email the manufacturer and request that accurate
information about this product be posted on the packaging to avoid
further tragedy.
And please include Calypso's family in your prayers. Such tragedy is
shocking, made so much worse by the fact that it could have been
avoided had the manufacturers taken some responsibility for their product.
  Thank You
