Meet & Greet BPOers / PetSmart Beach Party - Bava, Dixie & Sugar Bear
« on: August 10, 2005, 08:43:24 am »
The Petsmart Beach Party last night was a blast.  My granddaughter and I got to meet Bava's Mom & Dad.  Sugar Bear just loves to tickle Bava’s feet, which I think was making Bava a little crazy.  He is such a cute boy, now I have the fever for a black ball of fur.  Dixie made second place in the musical sit, Sugar Bear was the first  one out and got to laydown in the center.  I kind of think that was his plan, he has a crush on his PetSmart teacher.  Sugar Bear won a prize for “Pry Paw” handshake.  I wanted Dixie to do a “show me love”  hug. She would not have any part of it.  I now am going to have to put hotdogs in the play pool for Sugar Bear.   They had a kids pool filled with water and hotdogs, he could have done that all night.  It was lots of fun and we were so happy to meet some of our BPO pals.  After telling so many about BPO we may get a few new members.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Rescue Idea
« on: August 05, 2005, 12:52:42 pm »
I just had an idea for helping out with our BPO breed rescue dogs.  Since we all know that everytime we take our babies out to Petsmart or Parks we spend most of the time telling people about the breed.  What if we take along with us flyer listing current rescue dog in need of a new home.  I am sure I could pass out 10/20 everytime I take my dogs out.  It would only take a flyer in the hand of the correct home to save a baby.  I am sure that most of the foster home and rescue people don't have time for this.  It would be a simple way we could help. Any other ideas on what we can all do if we cant take in another dog.

We have another female Great Pyrenees that need a home.  She and her brother were put in the night box of a shelter in Summersdale, Alabama.  I plan to go see her in the next few days and take some more photos.  The shelter promised me that they would call me if she is any danger of being put down. They do not have a set time for them to stay. It is done on a day by day basic.  I was told that she 2-3 years old, may have been spayed and a very sweet girl.  I will post more as soon as I take a look at her. Please cross-post of you know of good sites.

info on journey:
about 2 years old, very good natured, walks well on a leash, possibly spayed, double dewclaws on back feet

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Dixie Darlin & Sugar Bear go to class.
« on: July 23, 2005, 08:16:13 am »
Dixie Darlin and Sugar are going to Petsmarts basic training class today.  Last week was the first class its was just an intro for owners. My granddaughter is going with me since we have two dogs to train.  This should be so much fun.  When I take then in to buy a treat I give myself at least an hour.  It is a new store in our area. At the grand opening day we were in there two hours with people in line to pet them and ask questions.  Let's hope they learn something today.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Getting ready for hurricane Dennis!
« on: July 07, 2005, 05:48:35 am »
Looks like it may be time for us to get ready for hurricane Dennis.  We had to restake 8 trees yesterday form TS Cindy.  So here we go again.  Sugar Bear was only 4 months last year during Ivan, he was great he just was asleep most of the storm in my arms.  We will start boarding up as soon as we have a little better idea where it is going.  Today I will make sure we have all of our hurricane supplies. Last year we were without power for over two weeks so making sure you have the things you need is a must.  At the time we are in the projected path, the Fl/Al line.  We are in the Gulf Shores Alabama area.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / dog fights ???????????
« on: June 18, 2005, 09:01:07 pm »
I have a quick question for everyone with two dogs.  For the last three nights Dixie (5 1/2 months)has been trying to start fights with Sugar Bear(11 months).  Once it was after they had each had a treat.  Once they were sitting in front of my husband and I with each petting one of them. Tonight they were play fighting and then she started to get mad.  This is the first time I have had more than one dog. I know they will test each other from time to time. These times she has her teeth beared and is bitting.  She is very much the aggressor in the matter. This puzzles me so much because they are almost always side by side.  Any advice would be great.  I did notice when playing with Dixie today that there is a little cream color discharge on her female area.  I plan to call the vet to see if there could be any hormonal female moods going on .

Thanks,
Lisa

Anything Non-Dog Related / Storm Area?
« on: June 11, 2005, 06:30:19 am »
Anyone else in the storm area (south Alabama, Northwest Fl.)?  We are just a few miles north of Gulf Shores.  For now we are just watching the rain, the winds are not to bad yet.  Sugar Bear and Dixie are not happy that they can not go play in the lake this morning.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Gas pains or Bloat?????????
« on: June 07, 2005, 12:57:24 pm »
It has been a long few days.  Sugar Bear has some runny stool the last few days so I have been giving him chicken and rice to eat. On Monday morning I notice that he was very restlessness, and just could not sleep. He was having paint and chewing at his tail.  So I rushed him to the vet. I know that bloat can happen so fast I did not want to take any chance. She gives him a shot put him on some meds and told me to keep a close eye on him.  He had a good night, but as soon as he gets up he started having bad pains again, so back to the vet for us.  I call the vet on his cell phone at 7am and they met me at the office.  They watched him for about 4hrs. and did some blood test.  I am so very thankful that is was not bloat. I was able to bring him home about an hour ago. He has only had pain twice and has eaten a little rice.  I am keeping him very close and watching his every move.

Since bloat can kill our babies within hours I though we should all post any stories on dogs with bloat or other issues of that type.  The way we will all know what to look for so that we have a fur-babies as long as possible.

Dixie is now 5 months old.  I have been reading about dog shows and am thinking about showing her. If I do I will not be able to have her fixed.  What am I in for and at what age will she have her first heat?

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Green mucus in poop???????????????
« on: June 03, 2005, 07:09:10 pm »
I noticed today that Sugar Bear had a little geen mucus in his stool.  His stool has been very soft for the past few days. I though I would just feed him rice and chicken for a few days.   Any ideas on what this could be?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Fur-baby Scrapbook
« on: May 21, 2005, 08:45:51 am »
Anyone here into doing a scrapbook of your fur-babies?  When I lost my dear sweet Rosie last July, I went through every photo in the house looking for photos of her.  It would have been so nice to have a scrapbook of her to look at during those endless nights.  As soon as the breeder e-mailed me a photo of Sugar Bear I started making a furbaby scrapbook.  I have done the same thing with Dixie.  As for Dixie I even has one of the photo of her Mom cleaning her.  I have added everything from the "Live Animal" sticker from Delta Dash to a page of them taking naps.  Yes I know it is a litttle overboard, but I am having a great time doing it.  I just though of another page I have to add.  I have one of Sugar Bears baby teeth, should make a good page with lost of photos of his big boy smile.   As soon as I have time I will take a photo of some of the pages and post them.  I would love to hear any ideas you may have for page layouts.
