Rare Breed Mastiff Discussions / Re: Anyone Own a Rare Breed Mastiff ?
« on: April 08, 2005, 09:57:15 am »
Goliath is an American Mastiff from FlyingWFarms in Piketon OH. American Mastiffs are registered with the CKC. Every one I have met has a personality very like an OEM and a somewhat leaner body like the anatolian. I have been SUPER happy with him and would recammend the breed to anyone with the time to care for them .... Goliath is very good inside (even at 5 months he is sedate indoors) and great with my 3 yr old son (goliath weighs twice a much as him but will sit and wait for his food without complaint and does exactly as he is told no matter who tells him what to do). Make NO mistake these are HUGE dogs (Goliath's sire was Brego -280 lbs and his dam was Gail - about 190 lbs).

Check out my breeders website if you like http://www.flyingwfarms.com

Rottweiler Discussions / Re: Vicious Dogs.........Ha yeah right
« on: April 08, 2005, 09:42:32 am »
Every one of the "Typically Vicious" dogs I have ever met fell into one of two categories.... ...

1) A very happy and well adjusted dog that wouldn't hurt anything (outside of toys) without an extremely good reason

2) a POORLY trained and BADLY cared for dog that could be vicious

It all comes down to the owner and how the animal is cared for. The only dog I have ever been afraid of was a beagle (meanest dog I have ever seen in my life) that was chained in the yard and completely neglected.

We should be mad at BAD OWNERS not punishing bad dogs. (FYI - my next door neighbor has two of the sweetest pit-bulls you could ever hope to meet - they might lick you to death but that's about it)

Next - instead of licensing dogs we should license owners (to ensure that the dogs get cared for correctly) then we wouldn't have to worry about the "bad dog" problem.

(by the way your rottie is beautiful)

Hi I own an "American Mastiff" and they are not very prevalent. essentially they are 7/8 English Mastiff and 1/8 Anatolian Shephard. They look like somewhat leaner OEM's. You can check out a picture from a month ago in the section American Mastiff (he is Goliath).

American Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Fear of small dogs?
« on: March 30, 2005, 04:54:08 pm »
Strangely  enough, Goliath seems to shy away from small dogs (but not other animals), but any dog bigger than him he seems happy to play with (A Great Dane is his favorite). Does this happen to anyone else?

This is Goliath at 4 months (last night). He is an American Mastiff from Flying W Farms in Piketon, OH.

Note that 2 months ago the bear dwarfed him....
