Great Dane Discussions / Its so Hard to Say "no"
« on: August 21, 2008, 08:27:19 am »
we have always kept in touch with the lady we got our two danes from... Zeus was originally bred by her, and as a puppy he had a rough life, she found out how bad he was being treated and rescued him from that situation. when we met him, it was love, we had to have him... We got memphis as a puppy from this same woman...
Yesterday she tells me she is having a co-own female returned to her, because the family just had a baby and the baby is allergic. she offered me the dane on co-own. she wanted me to show it and help with breeding her... Ohh how i just loved that idea. She was offering me this dane, for free. Its a 18month old fawn female... she sent me photos. She looks exactly like zeus did... It was so very hard to turn her down. i still havent actually said no. i said i had to discuss it with darcy. and thinking about it, here are the reasons we've come up with that it is not a good idea...
1) Memphis is not doing so well, his hips are getting worse, and im sure he will be on Meds very soon...
2) due to zero and memphis fighting, it makes our house 'smaller' with babygates to seperate the two.
3) i have two show dogs already...
4) we are mostly focused on our BTs and shall soon have a 3rd one, which will also be shown...
5) budget is tight right now, and alot of you know the cost of feeding a big paw or two...

Sadly- we are going to have to say no- im so upset cause i think memphis needs something like this. a friend that he can play with and so he isnt so depressed all the time... :(
its just too bad this came up now, instead of a few months ago- or few months from now... *Sigh*

Because Memphis won the mascot for the town, and his photo was in the paper, a lady from out of town (about 2hrs north) saw it and called us up. She explained she saw him in the paper and immediately fell in love. She works with a seniors center, and is having a dog event where seniors can meet and ask questions about all different breeds of dogs. and she would like Memphis to attend! What an Honor! He is getting so much love and attention, he is going to go silly! this isnt until the end of September, but its something exciting for us and him. she said she wants to get as many dog breeds as possible, so i told her about having a hairless, and again, she was very anxious to and would love her to go as well. I might want to bring Jigsaw, depending how she is doing around that time- so when this happens. we WILL take tons of pictures. Memphis is going to adore it!
Also, i just wanted to say, for those Canadians (who will know who i am talking about). Memphis is going to get to meet Faber Drive, as they appear in concert in our town on the 11th. For those non-Canadians, Faber Drive is a band, who have a few hit songs (from what I understand) I don't know them well, but know a few songs... but it is an honor to have Memphis be able to meet (and get his photo taken with) Famous people!  ;D :D

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Fat and Ugly??!?!
« on: July 28, 2008, 04:00:41 pm »
i have to share this... I will start off by telling everyone, that when we took Memphis to the cobalt dog contest, there was a woman there, with a badly bred rotti. the lady is always high off her kite, and she has a few loose screws!!! anyway, because of this, she did not win (it, really, had nothing to do with her rotti)...
Ok, now, on to my story... I went off to the bus stop, cause i had to take the bus to town to meet Darcy to cash the cheque of Memphis' cobalt dog money, and get some groceries.  Well i get to the bus stop, and there is only one person there. a boy about my age (early 20s). then another man comes he is probably in his 50s or so, and then the woman who owned the rotti gets there. she was standing there talking with the older man, saying how upset she is that her welfare cheque isnt in, its a day late and it should be in... she continued...  then she asked the man if he went down to the cobalt dog contest. he told her no. she says, very loudy "well it was rigged, they had the winner planned and knew who it was before they even got started." i just kinda looked over to her (as i was reading a magazine on the other side of the bus stop). she then continued to say "i dont know why they  would pick that big dog. he is really fat and really ugly". i couldnt take it. i bursted out "Um, Excuse me, thats MY Dog" to which she would reply 'oh hes yours. i've never seen him in town ever' (all rudely). i said "He lives on the corner of Cobalt street...and hes an inside dog." she says "well i've lived here my whole life and never seen him once". (which is a huge lie because she walks by my house all the time. and when i am out with him we pass her and the rotti, she is just so high she doesnt notice). I tell her that I've lived here all my life, and she is like whatever. then she mumbled something to me, which i barely caught but then i said "Well thanks for letting me know how ugly and fat my dog is" she is like "oh no problem" to which i replied in anger "your dog is mean and you are a total b!tch"  the two guys moved closer to me and were all smiling and one mouthed the words "thank you" then he turned towards me and said "i've been waiting for somone to tell her off for a long time"

LOL ok ok, i know, its not called for but her attitude is way beyond called for. she gets on my nerves. she lets her rotti run loose, and when he isnt loose, he is tied up. i don't trust him. (though, i've never seen him be mean) he has barked towards my dogs, but rottis do scare the crap out of me, so it is a big worry for me anyway. I have NOTHING against the dog, however, that woman is crazy!!!

Do you think I should have minded my business? I probaly should have, but, as i told the younger guy (after the feud was done) saying that towards my dogs is like someone saying someone else's child is fat or ugly, u just dont do it!!!  ugh...

Yahoo! there was a contest held today for our newest mascot of cobalt. Long ago there was a bulldog, who was the towns mascot, his name, was Cobalt... (that is how our town got its name). Well it was held and we entered memphis, and he won. along with winning, we got 100$ and he is alowed ANYWHERE in cobalt, buildings etc. we are welcome to go to the classic theater (for plays etc) for free. And he will be at every 'opening' for the next year. will post pics once i get some...

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Guess what I did today!
« on: July 23, 2008, 09:02:46 pm »
Well, I've been away abit lately- i've been so busy. we opened a grooming shop, and i've been quite busy getting it together and doing my first few appointments.
today, i groomed my first real "breed" Cut... A BOUVIER! omg. i was very intimidated because, thats alot of dog and alot of hair. Luckily, the Bouv, named Pepper, belonged to my friend Tanya, and is a farm dog. She said that i can give it my best try. and i think i did pretty damn good for my first breed cut (thats not a shihtzu shave down or reba's shave down LOL) here is a pic of miss Pepper after her groom, relaxing on the floor... :)
By the way, don't mind her ears. She has a very bad crop and my friend is on the breeders case about it. now she will have pictures of the bad crop (since she is now groomed with her first groom :D) anyways-

I just came back from the vet (payed yet an other bill) and my friend the vet tech
wanted me to meet a Bullie girl who was staying with them for observation.
Diamond a 2 year old (recently) spayed trico gal with an awesome attitude.
On her back for belly rubs, kisses and rolling on her back again.
Such a sweet sweet girl.
Diamond is there because she cant/wont pee and that is for days and days.
Started about 3 weeks ago.
She does squat, makes all the right moves but just no urine.
Now,she is in no pain at all,her stool is fine, just a healthy Bullie.
Accept...vet tried to bring in a catheter but has a very hard time to get it in.
When in she urinates normal and normal urine, its been tested, nothing wrong.
The catheter comes out and the peeing stops and back to the same condition as before.
No urine for days, last night she had a pee in her gage and it was a flood zone.
She has been opened up to see if there were any cysts on her bladder/urethra or perhaps a narrow urethra
but all seem  to be fine even on the inside.
But she is obvious not ok although not in visible discomfort.
Meds she gets to help her urethra and something to get her muscles working bladder wise.
I walked her a bit and she is other than that the cutest ever.
The vet will put her under for a bit today and make the Cather to go in and stay in but that really isnt
a solution as it is.
At the clinic they are out of ideas and I want to ask you guys if there is anyone with suggestions,
ideas or even experience in this area.
Please any thing that could help Diamond.

Bianca & Bullies.

Group Discussions & Photos / Updates! And Random New Pics :)
« on: July 06, 2008, 03:03:16 pm »
Thought i'd give a quick update. we FINALLY had nice weather. the last few weeks were mostly rain... yay. so the dogs are spending more and more time playing in the yard, swimming, etc. we take them fishing, and they LOVE to try to catch the fish as we reel them in (idiots).
Jigsaw has had her health tests all done, and all came back PERFECT and all normal!!! im so happy.
Memphis has been doing alot of playing and getting out, he is losing some weight - slowly... but is looking better already!
Zero is a punk who still likes to cause trouble... But hes starting to behave better... (we started him on Bark collars to get him to calm his barking issues down and it seems to help).
Reba has been pooing inside once again, oddly enough, we have the door open all day and she still prefers to go in the house. (even if we keep her outside for an hour, 10 secs inside and she pottys). So we've been going outside with her, and keeping her OFF the porch so she doesnt potty their either... And we wait til she is done, then she is alowed back in... it seems to help, but she is sneaky!!!!

Ok, on with the pics

Bull Terrier Discussions & Pictures / Who Says Pigs Can't Fly? (Pix)
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:58:16 pm »
our local kennel club has monthly meetings, i have missed the last few because my life has been super duper crazy busy! Well, Today was the last meeting before our local dog show, so because it was to be a "short" meeting, the club decided to have a fun day. instead of at the "president of the club's" house, it was held at one of the new members house, in the country. This member teaches agility and has her own course set up in her yard. She has border collies and she just moved here from England... (boy oh boy are her dogs amazing!)
Anyways, after the 'short' meeting, which seemed like FOREVER, because of all the bickering (alot of members dont get along, but try to cause of our love for dogs) we were able to try out agility with our dogs!!! Darcy and i brought Jigsaw, because she loved the agility at the bully picnic we attended at the begining of the month.  Other than Jigsaw, there were 2 whippets, an ibizan hound, a belgan shepard, golden and a boston... Jigsaw had a blast sniffing out the other dogs... My knee has been messed up the last few days, limiting my mobility, so darcy took the course with her... (not a set course, but just trying things out). I got my camera out, and there were only a few dogs left...  Jigsaw is a natural at this agility thing. she can't jump, but shes not really built to do it. If she had more motivation (ie. her ball) she probably would be more interested in the jumps... Anyways, here are a few pics...

for the last few months we've been planning out a trip for woofstock & the  bull terrier club of canada's annual picnic. Luckily, they are the same weekend, so we have no real problems! a friend of ours ended up getting a place in the area, and said we can stay with her. so, awesome, no hotel!!!
Darcy and I had been iffing and awing over who to bring. Jigsaw for sure, because shes our best behaved one. and i
was planning to get her heart tested while we were down there. i thought maybe just the girls, would be nice. but darcy kept insisting on bringing Memphis. Memphis goes every year he says. it is in memory of Zeus, he says. (to those who don't know, Zeus was our dane who crossed the bridge a few days after attending our first woofstock). so i said fine. memphis can come.
My friend moved into her place, but they dont alow big dogs in the appartments. so again, we can't bring memphis. so we think about bringing zero, and having him muzzled for "just in case". but thats no fun for zero at all! So then my friend tells us she has no bed, no couches, no furnature at all!so we decide its best to get a hotel. so, of course, darcy calls around to make sure they are pet friendly and can bring multiple pets.  so again, we are bringing memphis...
i tried to make an appointment to get jigsaw her heart testing for  the weekend we will be there (thurs, fri, sat). they say the only time they have availible is Weds. or two weeks later. i say thank you. but we wont be leaving that early... and are 6-7hrs from the clinic, that we wont be making that trip again soon. Darcy ended up having Weds. off and claimed he worked Thursday for a few hours in the morning. that we'd leave in the noon. well he didnt go in til noon and i went with him to bring zero for bording. darcy was NOT needed that day, he just sat around and chatted!!!! we could have went a day early and got the heart test done and over with! ughh. anyways...
we pack up the car thursday, and head towards toronto.  we get about an hour south when it started POURING rain. it rained the entire way to toronto. stopping when we finally got to our hotel. basically, we ordered a pizza and crashed. Jigsaw however, decided at 3am and 6am to wake us up for potty time...
Friday, we decide to go to the zoo. Since we didnt do anything for our anniversary really, this was our little treat... the whole thing was great. i've never been to the toronto zoo. it was beautiful. so many animals. we went to the sting ray exhibit, where you can pet them. wow it was a great experience. i ended up with a really really bad sun burn on my face and arms. I broke my sunglasses and, ripped the crotch right out of my shorts!!! so we left the zoo. went to the hotel, relaxed for a bit, or, what little we could with jigsaw jumping around... when we were fed up with her jumping on us, we went to buy me a new memory card for my camera, more batteries and a new pair of shorts.
You girls know, when you buy pants/shorts a certain size will fit. but you try it on just to make sure? well i tried on my usual size. dont fit. try size higher, DONT FIT. one more size higher- DONT FIT. so i was feeling totally FAT. and not happy about it. i finally found a pair of shorts that i really liked (and that fit).went back to the hotel, watched some tv, crashed... Jigs, again, kept us up most of the night.
Saturday, Woofstock... we left early so we can get a good parkin spot. we got there, and just get  up the hill past the enterance, this huge lab (with a muzzle) LUNGES out at memphis. luckily it missed. but Jigsaw saw and tried to protect memphis. so i had to control her and get her away from there.  the lab owner didnt even appologize.  we walked around, got like 100 free samples for memphis, treats, cookies, free leis and some doggy frozen yogurt. we saw so many breeds. we got about half way done the first street, my cell phone rings my friend gloria is there, at the enterance waiting for us- we walk that way. can't find her so we decide to empty my purse from treats (since the car is only about 5 mins from the enterence). empty it, gave the dogs some water, some yogurt and then head back. we see them. and this lady rushes over, telling us to give memphis water. that he needed to have water. and since we had stopped. memphis decided to lay down for a break. we told her memphis just had a bunch of water. somone brings a bucket to memph, he has two drinks and thats it! he didnt want none. that lady who kept egging us to give him water (i know she was only looking out for him...)kept insisting to give him more (even tho there was a bucket beside him).
darcy decided that it was time to take memphis back to the hotel, said me and gloria and aaron can stay with the other two. we split up, get about 5 mins away when my cell rings. darcy says memphis couldnt make it back to the car. hes collapsed and asked us to meet him.we rush back, and already there is 2 vets and about 10 helpers helping to cool memphis down with water, wet towels and ice packs. they yelled at us to "get that bully out of the sun!"  when jigs was sitting in the shade watching her big brother.  we move out of the sun so they'd quit yelling, and darcy and aaron ran to go get the car. an onlooker asked why we didnt put him in the pool. one vet nicely said "because he could go into shock" another helper says "He could drown" and started to laugh! That infuriated me. how dare she laugh at something like that! In front of me at that! I cursed her and walked away before i lost it! the car got to us and we loaded memph up. he was back to normal again. we took him and the other two to the hotel. then we sat with them to make sure they were all alright. put them in their crates, gave them some food & water, and we went out for supper with our friends. Darcy insisted the bill was on him. i told him we should go somewhere cheap.and everyone else decided to go Montanas. id never been there. i had chicken and potatoes. everyone else had Ribs!!!! the bill was over 120$! which darcy really cant afford, but paid anyway.  i offered for him to put it on my visa, but he refused. (im going to be paying for gas for the car for the next two weeks i know it). Anyways, after supper we rushed back to woofstock to pick up some goodies, i didnt even get to finish looking before memph crashed. so i wanted to go back. and boy oh boy, people there sure treat u different if you dont have a dog! no samples. no nothing! everyone asked how mem was doing, we told them hes fine, back to his old self again. and they were relieved. i picked up some goodies for the dogs, and we left. went back to check on the dogs, then went to see Don't Mess with the Zohan! it was a cute movie, not worth 20 bucks to see though.
The next day we went to the bull terrier of canada clubs annual picnic. its about an hour from Toronto, so off we go... packed up the car, checked out of the hotel and had a  long hot drive. It wasnt too bad, though jigsaw kept moving around, she is very restless!  We get to the driveway of the picnic area, and memphis decides he has to have a poo! so, he goes in the car. (we were about 10 feet from parking). so we stop the car, Clean up the mess, and kept driving. Parked and took the sheet we put on the seats out(luckily we had it there). we ran and got a nice spot under the shade. and had a nice relaxing sit before many others came.
we met up with some old friends and made new ones. there was a couple who had a red boy who was jigsaws half brother!!! and we havent ever met a relative of Jigsaw, so we were quite excited. Sadly this boy was CRAZY and barked and tryed to bite everyone! *which makes me thank god jigs is well behaved*. we entered jigsaw into a costume contest, all she had were doggles, but she was one cool chick. she didnt win, but she got a complementary mug with the BTCC logo on it! next was the bully olympics (which is basically a crappy version of agility). i bugged darcy to enter and finally he agreed. so i put her name down, and when it was her turn (2nd last) she did AMAZING. darcy handled her so well. and when he got back to me, he said they told him so far Jigs had the best time! and so- Jigs won 1st place at the Olympics. she will be featured in the BTCC monthly flyer and on their website. Yay! she got a gift bag with lots of goodies. big thing of treats, H2o to go, rope bone, and some other things.we waited around had the group photo, and did the raffle. everyone kept getting their numbers called but us... one lady won like 5 times, and then gave us one of her winning tickets because she felt bad. and so we picked a glass plate with a BT logo on it! its gorgeous!
anyways, now that its all over. we are home and back, and tired right out... phew, we wont be bringin memphis back to woofstock ever again, sadly. it is too much for him, with his hips, and size, etc. we will bring the two bts next year so they both experiance the picnic, even if we must muzzle zero (for OUR sanity). anyways. on with some pix?
