OMG!!Rare- does this person think we are all idiots????????? >:(
I have one of these "rare" danes, I wouldn't trade him for the world. He is the greatest thing ever made. At least his breeder didn't try to con the public into thinking their white , deaf danes were "rare"! We got him for a $100 deposit that was returned with proof of him being neutered! That is the way it should work with anyone that ends up with these babies in their litters. Now don't get me wrong - my baby is worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but to con people is just wrong and stupid!!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Fear of Smoke Detectors

My dane, Zeus, has a sever case of the scaredy-cats when it comes to smoke detectors. When we were living in base housing about 2yrs. ago, our smoke detector started beeping like it needed a new battery or something. It was really loud. Zeus went into full blown panic attack mode. I ended up calling matience to rip the whole thing out, when it wouldn't stop at 3am one morning. Zeus had to be medicated!! He was so freaked out by the beeping. :o

I have the animal dyson. I think it works very well. I am amazed how much hair it sucks up. I like having the canister that you can empty after every use because it cuts out the doggy smell that you get when you use a vac. with bags.

Hi, your german shepherds are beautiful! I grew up with shepherds at my house. To this day my dad will only allow a german shepherd to live at his house. My little brother has wanted other dogs, but our dad just wont allow it :D. They are great dogs. Maybe someday far down the road when I don't have my hands full with my danes I'll own one.

Hello! I have a 6yr. old dane who in the past few months started having issues with his hair. It looks pitted and thin in some areas like you described. He also nibbled and licked his feet alot. We figured it was allergies. These danes are very sensitive at times. The vet told us to give him benadryl everyday and bathe him with a special shampoo. His hair is improving daily. Also, I give both of my danes N'zymes daily. I don't know if you have ever heard of that or not, it is sold online and is recommended on the great dane lady's website for a variety of issues. I started using it on Zion because he was having over-active anal glands, and was at the point of considering having his glands removed. Well, this stuff really has helped alot. Now, Zeus gets it daily too for his skin/hair. Just some things for you to consider. I hope your baby is doing better!

Yes, all 3 dogs in the truck are mine. It's Zeus, Zion, and Reagan. Reagan is the oldest of the 3, she is the boss/princess of the group. She is a Bassett-mystery mix!!

I saw an ad in the local paper while me and my husband were living in Lompoc, Ca for great dane puppies. It said that they had white ones, I knew most all white danes had hearing and/or vision problems. For some reason before I saw that ad, I had it in my mind that I wanted a special needs dane. When we got to go see him the people said that we could have him for a $100 deposit with that being returned after he was neutered. I had wanted to teach him hand signals, but all I ever got around to doing was sit and lay. He learned those very quickly and was easy to teach. He "listens" now as well as my other two dogs do!!!  ;) He cried louder as a baby, that is the ony difference I really noticed for a long time. Now, I just notice that he doesn't wake up and bark when we come home, etc. like the other dane. It is so cute, we can just step over him and he never even knows we came home. When he wakes up, it's like "oh-you're back"!! Oh, he isn't really an albino, he has black spots on his nose and on his cute little butt! I am enjoying this site and hope to get to know some of you.

Hi! I'm Lisa. Zion's mom. Zion is a deaf great dane. I was just wondering if there are any other deaf dog owners here? I love my deaf dog and think that he is the greatest thing ever.
