Big Dogs with Jobs / Canine Therapeutic Visitation Update
« on: April 16, 2006, 09:39:57 am »
Hello all,

I have gotten my Canine Therapeutic Visitation service fully under way.  It is exciting.   We are visiting one facility each Saturday, and 3 facilities every other Sunday, covering a total of 11 facilities throughout the month.  Starting next month, I will be bringing on another person (our very own Mari, Cowboy & Chester's mom) ;D ;D ;D that will help out with some of the load.

The visits have been very successful.  Most of the residents are excited to see us and had been looking forward to the visit for a few days in advance.  We meet in the activity room of each facility where my dogs (one at a time) can walk around to each person and get some lovin' from them.   Then the dogs (well, actually me) gives the person some cookies (if they want some) and a photo card of the dog.... see below:

Remi (my "puppy") is doing much better at these visits than Samson is.  That totally surprised me.  Samson is my calm one that is versatile to just about any environment ... Remi is my "crazy" dog that only wants to play.   But when I bring them into the Senior facilities, they reverse there roles.  After Remi gets done vacuuming the floor of all the cracker and cookie crumbs, she will then go visit everyone to get her lovin'.   Samson, on the other hand, is too distracted with everything in the room that he just could care less about visiting with anyone.   Mmmm ... go figure.

Below are some photos I took of my dogs all dressed up, ready for Therapy.  And also a couple of photos I took yesterday at the facility we visited.

Big Dogs with Jobs / Orange County Therapy Dog Team
« on: April 05, 2006, 09:02:16 pm »
Hey folks.

Are any of you fine folks in Orange County, CA a registered Therapy Dog Team?

I just recently became involved in doing Therapy Visitations with my dogs at Senior Citizen Centers and Homes.   There is way too many facilities that want me to visit than I can handle.

I am looking for other Therapy Dog teams (dog and human) that are registered with Therapy Dog Inc. or Therapy Dog International that would like to partner up with me to pay visits to these fine old folks.  There is a HUGE need for that in the Orange County area.

I am only able to visit on Saturdays and Sundays and there's just not enough hours in the day to see them all.

Let me know if you would like to help.

I am Sooooo excited.  I am finally launching my Canine Therapeutic Visitation services with my "puppies".  I am mainly going to be focusing on Senior Citizen communities and going there on Saturdays or Sundays and just hanging out with them in the activities room or in their own room privately, allowing them to interact with my dogs.

I have started emailing and faxing Senior centers and have received two contacts that want me to start my services right away.  This is a completely volunteer service ... my payment is the happiness and satisfaction that it will bring to the Seniors, to my dogs, and to myself.

So, starting this Sunday afternoon, I will be going to Westminster Terrace, just a mile down the street from my home. Then on next Saturday, March 25th, I have two locations to visit (hopefully more by that time).

This service has been a life long passion of mine.  My love for senior citizens is almost as strong for my love for my pets.  The service that I am offering allows Seniors, that have given up their own furry loved ones because they could no longer take care of them, (or could not take them with them to a Senior Citizen Community) to have a little bit of love and compassion restored again from a furry friend.   Some seniors do not have any outside human visitors at all ... this will give them the human contact that they so desperately need also.

I have just recently become a member of a Nationwide organization called Therapy Dogs, Inc.  This service has evaluated both of my dogs and my dogs have passed their tests to become a Therapy Dog through them.  With this membership, certification and recognization, this will open up more doors to me to bring my dogs to more facilities.

I am also hoping to get involved with mentally and physically disabled children and adults in the future.

You can check out my website at :

I will let you know how the visits go.

Sincerely,

Barbara Laird

Anything Non-Dog Related / The "E" Word
« on: January 04, 2006, 09:36:19 pm »
I cannot believe this weather....   I think it's building up for "THE BIG ONE".

First ... it's freezing cold...  I mean I think it got down into the 50s.  Then it's raining ... it rained on our parade ... that's never happened for as long as I've been alive.   NOW ... it's in the mid-80s.  I'm burnin' up.

Yep....  We're gonna have "THE BIG ONE" soon.

And who ever said that there are no Earthquake warnings.

Oops ... I said it.... The "E" word.

I just love Southern California.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

A question has been asked in another message board (Tiergan's ROAR Yahoo Group) by a user named Rustyshacklefo rdjr.
Here is Rusty's question:

From: rustyshacklefo rdjr
To:  Tiergans_Roar@yahoogroups.com
Subject: Tiergans_Roar] Just curious ? a Poll of sort
Date:  Tue, 03 Jan 2006 07:53:38 -0000

How many people on this board has ever stepped foot on the GGR property? How much of these so call testimonials are frabricated to make the story look jucisy? Well, I've been there several times. I got my beautiful princess from GGR almost two years ago. Tracy and Burt have always been there for me if I had any questions or concerns. I have witnessed Tracy down on her knees crying her eyes out because just minutes before we arrived a very sick dog had basiclly been dump on her door step. I have never met a women with such dedication, presurverance and the properbly the most beautiful heart that I"ve ever seen. The grounds at GGR are beautiful and well kept. The inside facilities are well keep. I've seen serveral rooms/areas of the house.

All, I'm saying it to please think before you throw that stone. Propaganda and rumor ruins peoples lives. BYW, The don't have to do this, they are loaded. They both do it becasue of the love they feel for the animals. There, I've sad my say!

Tooles, a HAPPY RESCUER FROM GENTLEGIANTSRE SCUE in Norco, CA. I look forward to the day I can bring home another one of thier angels.

R

What a great question Rusty asked. So, since some of you may not be a member of Tiergan's Roar Yahoo Group, and since Rusty Shackleford's question/poll isn't as detailed as I would like to see … I thought I would also do a similar poll/survey

Here is the link to the Survey:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=875051642986

For those of you that have had an adoption experience with Gentle Giants Rescue, we would love to hear your response.

Sincerely,
Barbara Laird

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Free Dog to Good Home
« on: December 21, 2005, 11:30:53 am »
Our neighbor has a puppy he's giving away (FREE!).
It's a Dachshund, it's house broken, and it's great with kids.

He's giving it away because his wife says the dog 'stares' at her when she is undressing, and that gives her the 'Heebie Jeebies'. I think she is just weird !

If you're interested, or know someone who is, let me know.

Here's a picture of the dog.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Winter Wonderland (dog style)
« on: December 19, 2005, 02:23:58 pm »
Dog tags ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening.
 It's yellow, NOT white,
 I've been there tonight,
 Marking up my winter wonderland.

Smell that tree? That's my fragrance.
 It's a sign for wand'ring vagrants;
 Avoid where I pee,
 It's my property!
Marked up as my winter wonderland.

In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
Following the classic old design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go man,
So all the world will know
it's mine, mine, mine!

Straight from me to the fence post,
 Flows my natural incense boast;
 Stay off of my turf,
 This small piece of earth,
I mark it as my winter wonderland.
