Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Fear of Smoke Detectors
« on: June 28, 2005, 06:19:01 pm »
I finally put batteries back in the smoke detector in the kitchen after about 2 years. My 2 older dogs are scared to death of the smoke detector. Marksman is 9 and Grizelda is 11. It doesn't seem to bother the other 3 fur children.  Every time I use the broiler it goes off. Griz is afraid of thunderstorms so I can see why she might be scared. But Mark isn't scared of thunder. I try to reassure them that it's OK. Griz shakes like a leaf and Mark runs under the desk in the den. Any suggestions?

Grizelda is my mix, I think she looks like a Pointer cross. I was working at the animal hospital and one of the other girls working there found Griz on the side of the road in a ditch. She was about 3 months old. A skinny and lice covered little pup. She had a great personality so I brought her home and that was 11 years ago.

I love doggie kisses, when I come home from work Dozer will stand up and give me one kiss right on the mouth.  Gretchen my Redtick, will lick you all over your arms like she is giving you a bath. That can get on your nerves, although i believe she thinks she is mothering you. Dogs give unconditional love.

I have 5 big dogs. My family thinks I'm nuts which is fine with me. I never have to cook Dinner for any of the holidays, they don't even ask me. It usually rotates between my mother, sister and brother. ;D

That is too funny. Dogs have a way of being funny with out even trying. Sometimes Dozer will grab Echo's collar and drag her into the dog arena to play. I call it the dog arena because that is where they go to wrestle and play. The dog arena is actually part of the living room that has a really large open spot.

I think I'll make some, I'm sure all 5 of the fur kids will love them. Echo, one of my Siberians licks the air conditioner vents all Summer long.

The haircut looks really good. I believe he thinks so too. It looks like he's posing.
We always had dogs growing up. I used to eat their food with them when i was a little kid. I think any kid who is afraid of dogs is missing out on a great part of life.

He is a beauty! I see where he could have Bloodhound in him or maybe Redbone Coonhound. Usually when you mix a Bloodhound with another breed they loose all the loose skin.
It is kind of hard to have a hound off lead. They will follow their nose. Hounds can be very smart so smart you might think they are dumb. They can learn but have a mind of their own. They learn but then have selective hearing and will do tasks if they feel like it.Dozer knows what  "gimme Kiss" means but only does it when he feels like it. They are in tune with your feelings and very sensitve when yelled at. Its funny the way they have so much expression in their face. I hope this helps
