Our Setter was spayed at a year because we had every intention of hunting and breeding her, but I got a job where I had to be away alot and Matt just couldn't deal with it.  I know that the females differ mess wise but Araby was DISGUSTING, the house smelled rank, it was horrible.  Behavior wise, well the word "Bitch" came from somewhere and I'm thinking it was a girl in heat.  She was miserable, and honestly I don't see why someone would want an intact dog if they weren't going to breed them.

The whole dogs gaining weight thing after being altered is, in my opinion, an excuse made by people who don't want to alter their dogs.  I'm not saying that's what you're doing, it's just what I've experienced personally.  Araby is just as active, trim, psycho and spazzy as she was before she was spayed.

I'm not telling you what to do, just trying to give my insight on the whole subject.  In my opinion, I think it'd be better for both your dogs to be fixed.

Oh, great, My Dyson. Now I want a baby, too. How am I going to pull off convincing him of both?
Bunny, Lins and Nina, now we have to have a Puppy/BABY intervention! Thanks a LOT Dyson! hehehehehe!  ;)

Everyonce in a while I get into baby Mode.  Usually sparked by an adorable baby, or a tiny outfit, or most recently and ADORABLE pair of mini baseball cleats.  Matt stops this by buying me something, so it works out on all accounts.  Seriously though I want a baby SOOOOOOOO bad.  Maybe I'll just pacify myself with another puppy......... .

Seriously,  It's better to pay $1,000 - $1,500 for a pet quality Dane pup then get a "Bargain Pup" for $500.  Red is right, quality dogs take quality money.  And that $1,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to what you'll pay if your pup has health issues that could have been screened for.  (A woman I know spent $600 on her puppy and has spent well over $30,000 in medical bills over the past year and a half).

Also, and this isn't meant to sound mean so PLEASE don't take it that way.  Danes are one of the most expensive dogs to own because of their size.  Medically evertyhing is done by weight, vaccinations, medications, even surgeries.  Bigger collars, bowls, toys, the only crate really suited for a Dane is the Midwest Collosal (Or Model # 99) and I've never seen one go for less than $200.  Not to mention that Danes need special consideration in regards to their food (ie Expensive), not to mention more of it.  Something that I've seen said time and time again, and unfortunately seen proved numerous times, is that if you can't afford a quality puppy, you usually can't afford to keep the dog.

Also, Gyspy said that Samson's parents weren't health tested.  If I remember correctly his parents were working dogs.  Many times working dog breeders don't health test their dogs, but honestly DANES DON'T WORK!  In my opinion there should be no excuse a Dane breeder could give for not showing and health testing their dogs.  My Setter is a field type, as such she can't be shown, but her father has multiple field trial championships, and her mother is a hunting dog, along with ranking high in the local standings.    Because Dane's can't prove themselves like that, showing is, in my opinion, the only way to prove that they're worthy of breeding.

The decision is yours, but I would stay away from this breeder.  If you're interested you can PM me and I can give you a ton of links for tips on buying a Dane pup.

I could never leave New England, what with fall being my favorite season, and no one has fall like New England.  And, being my usual dorky self, I found my dream house about an hour from me.  And it's for sale for only COUGH*2.8 Million*COUGH.  It has 150 acres, it's own mountain, it's own pond, is totally fenced in with those 20 foot high walls they put on highways that are next to housing so it muffles the noise.  The house is a 6 Bedroom, everything's open concept, windows and light everywhere, OMG I love this house you have no idea.

Maybe when I marry an old rich guy on his death bed I can get it.

Araby- (Said in snotty uppercrust manner) "But I'm the princess!  I'm TELLING!  I don't do that."  Lots of swearing.  She swears at us all the time.

Hobo-  (Said like over eager junior high student)  "I will love you forever and ever, I'll never leave your side, we'll be soulmates.....  OOOOOOO!  SHINY!"

Sanity- (Said like "Mongo" in Blazing Saddles)  "Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma, Mumma.  I like Pie.  SAVE ME!"

The reason I'm saying he did it because he was mad is when I'm tired I usually throw my clothes in a pile on the floor and leave them there till morning and he's NEVER chewed anything.  That night I put all my dirty clothes in a laundry basket, and put that basket in my closet behind the sliding door, and closed the door.  For him to never go after my unmentionables, and then to go out of his way to get them makes me think it was pre meditated :P

I know all about self rewarding vices.  My Hobo is a notorious counter surfer, and we've worked our butts off to correct that.  I'm also very aware of blockages which is why for the most part everything is put away.  Well now everything IS put away, after the Victoria's Secret incident.

Hobo was a shoe eater.  The other two just have an underwear fetish.  They'll snag it any chance they get.  Sanity got mad at me for coming home late the other night and while I was sleeping opened up the closet door and devored my $80 favoritest bra.  I couldn't even look at him in the morning, I was so angry.

Good Lord this dog HATES to have his picture taken.  It's a massive pain in the butt to get any shots of him.  As for his tongue, he's always been big on the whole raspberry thing.

I love our neighborhood, I really do, but the crime in our area is horrible.  As bad as it sounds, Matt REALLY didn't want me to get Sanity, but the major factor in me keeping him was Matt didn't feel safe with me walking alone at 5 AM.  We had an intruder break into our house about 2 years ago.  No one was home but there was blood everywhere because Araby attacked him.  He was found and convicted, but I was very shaken up.  Our house is on a mian road in plain sight.  That night I sat down and did some research online and in the previous month we had had 12 rapes, 3 murders, over 45 assaults, 17 robberies, and 32 drug busts within 2 miles of my house.  And those are just what's reported.  I don't live in the big city.  I live in a suburb that's been voted "Best place to live in America" 3 times by Money magazine.  (Nashua, NH so all you stalkers now know where to find me)  I would love to raise kids here, but with the stuff going on I'm really contemplating moving to the boonies.

Not much slobber but all my make up got washed off.  I was trying to get a pic of Sanity and I (Taking the pics myself because my Darling SO is a HORRID photographer), and he wasn't cooperating, so it was taking quite a while and the other two got jealous.  Then Sanity toddled away and left me with the other two.

Some more pics of him not cooperating... .

"Ma, what're you doing?"

"I love my Mommy!"

Various pictures of him struggling to get away.

"MA!  I can't breathe!"

"I hate you"

"OK this sucks"

"Hobo SAVE me!"

Here's where the other two got me after he left.

I'm thinking 3 is my magic number for right now.  Reason I say right now is the three that I have are so high maintenance, emotion-wise.  They're all very needy, and as stupid as it sounds it takes up alot of my time.  I think if I had a mellow dog or two I could have more.

The Ugly Dachshund is my FAVE all time movie.  In fact there's a Dane (I know just Danes, I haven't broadened my horizons yet) site with a list of movies with Danes in them.

I have 3 dogs, The Dane, the Chinook and a Setter.  I don't have any kids right now but we watch our godkids (4 year old twins) for a few weeks a few times a year.  Everyone loves everyone else, and luckily all of our dogs are natural mothers (Especially the boys!).  I mean you still can't leave them alone, for the dogs sake.

I remember a little girl I used to baby sit for, they had a German shepherd, the OLD German long haired lines, gorgeous gorgeous dog.  Well I came to sit one night and Marenna had no tail!  I asked what had happened and the mother had left them alone, because she always bragged about how she could trust her dog, and that the dog was her babysitter.  Anyways the baby bit the dog's tail, and GNAWED THROUGH IT!  The dog's beautiful plumy tail was gone.  I was so sad.
