Great Dane Pictures / Video of a thief

Yup, that's my Sanity.  I thought he was going through his case of biscuits rather quick, and I hid behind the couch and watched him.

I'm about to find out if the kennel cough vaccine works. Zoot and Nigel have both been vaccinated for it, and over the last few days I kept a temporary foster puppy who had a horrible case of kennel cough. Well, I don't have a quarantine unit in my house, (who does?), and so the pup ran with my dogs, ate with my dogs, kissed them, you name it. She has gone to the rescue group now so in 10 days if my dogs are not coughing, I can at least have faith in the KC vaccine. If my dogs come down with it though, I will be infuriated at the veterinary world. We shall see...
Here's that sweet coughing puppy sitting with Nigel...

I don't like the KC vaccine.  It covers like 5 strains of KC and there are well over 300.  My English Setter got KC from the vaccine itself within 18 hours of receiving it.  And the little foster pup I had with the wicked kennel cough a few weeks ago??  Sanity was with her constantly during the day for almost a week and he never got it.  He even licked her eye goopies (That was gross and I didn't notice he was doing it right away.  Of course I stopped him when I saw it.)  He hasn't been vacc'd for it either.  My kennel requires Bordetella for Day care, but I'm going to talk to them about it.  It might be a state board thing, in which case I'll get the useless shot.

Marit,

I know nothing that anyone can say right now can make you feel better.  Just know that we're thinking of you.

I know you already have some Danes, but was wondering if you'd be interested in a baby Brindle?

Yeah it was from last week.  It started before then, but someone bumped it up.

The lady who originally bred Sanity (She falsified Neutering papers to my friend who bred the father and sold him to her on a S/N) had 19 puppies she couldn't find homes for.  I think she sold 2 and it was to the same family, and they just couldn't stand to see them left there.  The good breeders are the ones that would take care of left over puppies, but they never have puppies left.  The bad ones dump them or sell them as bait dogs (THis is a HUGE problem with Danes) and they always have puppies left.

I searched for "Wolf" and "Wolf dog".  I found the lady who did the post in the member's list (Found her by her avatar) but the post isn't listed.  The name I found was "Wolf_Lover"  I don't know if it was under another name or not.  She was introducing her wolf dog, and she was getting another one that had all kinds of wolf like buffalo wolf in it.  She said that the buffalo was a big fluffy type of wolf and it's almost extinct.  Then someone posted this awesome link I can't find.

I was talking to a friend about wolf dogs and someone had posted a link in here earlier (Within the past week) to a wolf dog post about how in reality very few wolf dogs have uch, if any wolf in them.  Well I can not find that post for the life of me.  I found people who posted on it and I looked up their last few posts, and I can't find it.  I'm going NUTS!!!!!!!!  Can anyone help?  (Not with the going nuts part, that's beyond any help)

Maybe my horrid fostering situation has tainted me even further, but I've never really liked Labs.  I take that back.  I like REAL Labs, the British Block head 120 pound hunting Labs.  The smaller Yuppy Labs as I call them, have always been psycho and never really a dog I ever liked.  My dad's boss has an amazing block head and she is the most stable, adorable, level headed dog you'll ever meet.  Honestly, I just blame the popularity of the breed, which leads to poor breeding.   It's why I always flinch when I see a new dog movie coming out.  Araby, our Setter, is a high drive hunting dog, and alot of people can't deal with that.  I do like how the article touched on that a bit, that people need to get a dog that fits them, not just because the Joneses got one.

Matt is a musician and he likes finding unusual stuff to listen to.  Well he went to Florida and when he came back he had this new song, which we listened to, and we both really liked it.  In it was a girl named Araby, who was named after a James Joyce story, which was named after a racous wild fair.  We didn't find out about the fair thing till later, we just liked the name.  Turns out it fit her to a T.  Here's the song in case you're interested.

I was responding to a post on the thread about Sanity's pictures, and I felt HORRIBLE because I realized that I havne't posted practically anything about my other two babies.

Here's Araby.  She's the first puppy that we got.  I got her for Matt's Birthday.  She picked him out when she was a week old.  We got first pick of the females and Matt was scared to death as he'd never had a dog before and was afraid he'd break her.  She crawled up his chest and kissed his chin and then snuggled to sleep in his pocket.  She's been his spoiled rotten baby ever since.

I apologize for not having alot of pics of Araby.  My CD with her pics has fallen off the face of the earth.

Hobo.  He's an adorable little bugger.  That's all you can really say about him. :)  He loves everyone and everyone loves him.  In reality he's Araby's dog.  She's not spoiled though.

Now cropping ears, well that is a whole different thing and I am totally against it. I have helped many times and I think this is very cruel.
For one thing, the pup is 12 weeks old before it can be done. Lots of blood can be lost in that surgery and there is a lot of pain after the surgery. And then the taping of the ears and that can go on for months. No, this is very cruel and animal abuse and is only for cosmetic reasons.
Ingrid

Just out of curiosity, in my experience, with Great Danes, 12 is the OLDEST most vets will touch for an ear cropping as the cartiledge is starting to set.  The longer you wait the more your chances for a failed crap.  Granted Danes have longer crops, for the most part, than a Dobe, or a pit, but I was under the impression that most pups were done between 6-8 weeks.  I was just wondering why your particular practice waited so long.

Thanks.  I love that girl to death, she's too sweet though and she doesn't stick up for herself.  Her dogs are amazing too.  I think that anyone who has 6 dogs, 2 of whom are deaf, 1 who has brain damage and one who had aggression issues and turns them into push button obedience dogs needs to be listened to.

She gets me so mad I spit!  I sit there and fluster at the computer for like 10 minutes. I'm scared for her dogs, and I'm scared for new people who might think that she knows what she's talking about, when in reality she's spouting off a jumbled mess of stuff that people have said to her that's disjointed and totally not connected or helpful.  I TRIED to be nice to her once and she was so anal and obnoxious and juvenille I just wanted to smack her.  I'm seriously worried for her pups though, that and I just hate spoiled snotty kids.  (Says the old woman :P)

PS When I'm not involved in drama I enjoy it too.  It's better than TV!
