A note on the "Surprise!" thing....... That's how I got Sanity, and while Matt let me keep him, he kind of resents Nee because of it.  So if your SO is the kind to carry a grudge I'd go for the straightforwar d approach.

If they educated they'd lose money.  Simple as that.  No reason to get all dramatized about it.

If I had to chose an AKC dog or an UKC I'd choose UKC.  If I had to choose between AKC and a scam registry I'd choose AKC/

The latest I've EVER heard of is 12 weeks.  And that's a crappy short crop  (Sorry I like the long crop on a Dane if it's going to be done at all), and even then there's a huge chance of a failed crop.  But I agree there are some colors that automatically pop into my head instantly as cropped or not.  :)

I'm beginning to lothe the AKC because people think that they stand for quality or are somehow involved in the producing of quality dogs.  They AREN'T.  THEY ARE A REGISTRATION BODY AND THAT IS ALL.  The AKC is a social security number for dogs.  You get the number you can participate in AKC events and your children can be registered AKC.  That's it.  If you have a complaint about a breeder, don't go to the AKC because as long as they pay their fees and don't falsify papers, the AKC doesnt' care.  Go to the breed club.  Sorry but I hit 4 different groups today before I got to this post and they ALL had posts about the AKC somehow being INVOLVED in dogs.  It's not.

OK I was all set to be mad, thinking she was breeding a deaf white girl.  Moni will explain the technicalities because she's good at that stuff.  In layman's terms this girl somehow avoided the MM gene, which is what makes the double harl white puppies deaf.  Having amazing genes like that you'd want to pass on.  PLUS like she said, a white bred to a black or mantle would produce a high output litter of Harls, AND with the mother not carrying the *Deafness* gene there's no way they'd be GENETICALLY deaf.

And TECHNICALLY whites aren't even breeding out of color family.  If you're a by the rules person the GDCA color code says that you can breed Harls and Mantles (Reason that Mantles were brought in were that the Harls would have some one legit to breed with), Fawns and Brindles, Blacks and Blues.  However there are amazing top of the line breeders who mix and match all the time.  There was an effort awhile ago to improve the Harl line (Harls are the most difficult color to get because there are so many factors that can go askew, just color wise, plus they're recessive.)  and they brought in fawns, which is why even in a line that's been color pure (Which is a TARDED term) for generations you can get a fawnequin to pop up.

But there are many ethical breeders who KNOW what they are doing that use colors that aren't in the standard (ie: Merles and whites) in their breeding program to produce amazing dogs.  If you could please PM me your breeders info.  Not because I want a puppy, just want to do research.  :)

OK what's the status on this?  It's like a week and a half away, and I have people flying up here and we were going to go.

One reassurance I can give you is that from what I've heard, many bulldogs have problems breeding naturally b/c of their shape and must be artificially inseminated.  But that doens't mean he won't try.   ;D

This has to do with two bulldogs fitting together.  I "know" (Read as Acknowledge her existence, but berate her shoddy dog ownership practices every chance I get) a woman from our dog park who's English Bulldog impregnated her Afghan.  THOSE WERE UGLY @SS PUPPIES!

There is actually an early greying gene.  You can see year old Danes with a totally grey face.  Sanity is 18 months old and getting gray spatters on his lips.  Same as with people who gray in their twenties.  :)
