Did you call these ?
- PONAAK  110 Grove Street, Shorewood 815-730-4895
- Furry Friends Foundation   312-397-1001
 - Harmony House (Cats Only) Call for appointment 773-463-6667
-Cats Are Purrsons, Too   773-728-6336
Independent Cat Society  P.O. Box 735, Westville 219-785-4936
(no kill, cageless cat shelter, Route 6 and Porter/LaPorte County Line Road)

I would explain the situation and see if one of them can take momma and babes, or if they can't maybe they know of somewhere that can.

I am located in BC, about an hour east of Vancouver.

Seeing all these poor animals at a kill facility makes me sick , just sick !!

I'm hoping someone knows of someone looking for a pup, bringing attention to these is the best I can do for now.

Is this a newfie mix? They think it is but it's hard to tell from the picture.
Either way, he's on borrowed time at that local pound .

hey Galxe,
if you look at Petfinder, there are great looking newfs in WA as well.
Look at this one :
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6955179

It has 3 brothers and/or sisters

the newf cross is here at the Chilliwack Animal control . I just called them to see if he's still there. Right now he's at a foster to adopt home, they have till Sunday the 10th to decide if he'll work out or not. So if you want to check back either here and I can call the animal control for you or you can call them directly at  604-795-4638 and ask for Trina. If you call Monday the 11th, they'll know whether it worked out or not.

Chilliwack is not far from Sumas WA, it's easy to cross the border and then about a 20 minute drive to the shelter.

What a beautiful dog !! And what a sweet face !  I would soo cut a hole in the fence and pull him through. Good for you for trying the legal way.

I think if it was me, I'd offer money for him. Say you've always wanted one, this one has bonded with your dogs through the fence, and then show them some cash.

Some people don't know how good they have it and what an angel they have under their noses. Seeing these pictures I can fully understand that you want to make this dog part of your family.

have you tried Truck -N-Paws ?

They are fantastic and I believe they transport through Canada as well.

If you do end up calling Chilliwack Animal Control, ask for Trina.  She's fantastic, works her behind off to place dogs in good homes, and will tell you honestly whether the Newf/Pyr cross has possiblilities .

I hope it works out.

I would have room for two of the Pyr pups. They would be trained as LGDs, though, so outdoor dogs. (Many rescues won't re-home to a working home. If they are still pups, it shouldn't be too excessive to fly them cargo up here (Vancouver Island, Canada).

Maria

Maria, we have a Newf/Pyr cross here at the local animal control in Chilliwack . He's 6 years old, very sweet. We're not that far from the ferries. Are you interested??

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Newf/Great Pyr cross at local animal control

There is a 6 year old Newf/Great Pyr cross at our local animal control. He's all matted but very sweet.

We are in Chilliwack, BC, which is an hour east of Vancouver BC, or about  20 minutes from Sumas WA

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6937114

Trina can't post a picture because someone stole her camera, but I can pull if someone here is interested and we can get a transport set up.

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Prong collars for newfs?
« on: September 01, 2006, 04:47:43 am »
I have such a problem with prong collars, I think they should be banned !

When we trained Moose, we found ( as was said in one of the other replies ) that several 5 minute sessions were better. He lost interest if it was more than that and also lost interest if he was told to do something several times in a row.

I use martingale collars on both my dogs and swear by them. They are fantastic. I got them from a place that donates the money made from the collars to fund medical bills for rescue dogs so I felt great about getting them too.  I would never use something that causes pain in order to teach any dog . Treats and consistency works far better.

( we've had both types of trainers, the hard handed drill sergeant approach and the treats type based approach. I will NEVER use a drill sergeant approach again!! The hard handed one insisted on choke chains, the treats type didn't want to see any choke chains. The second gave us better results, made us feel better about what we were doing and was actually fun AND was positive all the way )

I think he's beautiful . don't know anything about Old English Sheepdogs though.
