General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Prong collars
« on: August 31, 2005, 08:07:10 pm »
I use prong collars on Toester and Onyx because when we are out with a lot of people and dog they dont listen to me. They both have been to puppy classes but they just dont listen. Hershie and Thor I use a regular collar mostly a cute one with rhinestones or leather one. When they are around the house they dont wear collars. I have four dogs all over 90 pounds I walk all four TOGETHER now granted I no 120 pound person but its the only way I can handle Them together and I'm way too lazy to walk all four of them one at a time.
When Toester was in class the teacher didnt want to use the prong collar and tired a gentle leader and it worked for awhile but when Toester wants to do something she will do it and she has gotten out of the gentle leader.
I've never tried a harness with my Danes but when I had my lab he would pull worse with the harness. I dont really like the choke chains Toester will just not stop pulling and I think she might kill over for lack of air.

NEWFLVR I thought I was the only one that call my pup little s**t. When Onyx was a pup she was in to everything and she loved to bite. At one point I was talking to my b/f telling him how she had bitten me earlier and I called her a little s**t and she came to me then I realized that it was time to stop calling her that.

No you are not nuts! Its a big dog thing my dogs had their own loveseat but it started to stink really bad so I moved it out and got them these cots to sleep on. I do plan on getting them a twin sized bed to sleep on soon. A lot of people used to look at me like I was crazy when I told them not to sit on that chair thats the dogs chair, but hey I have three Danes so they thik I'm crazy anyway.

Toester and Onyx on their chair!

Looks like I filled out this form too fast. I just left the ER to get stitches in my hand. I decided to take the doggies over to Sweetbreeze's house since I was off. Well everything was fine until Toester growled at Snoopy then they started fighting. Then here comes Miss Onyx and I was doing good then Toester pulled away from me and I went to grab her and put my hand in her mouth and she bit me!!! I have three small puncture wonds on the back of my hand and a large gash on the palm of my hand. I just spent the last two hours in the ER to get four stitches (my first ever!!) and a tetnus(sp) shot. So now my left arm and my right hand hurt :'( and I have a new story  ;D

This is the story that I tell every one about the night I got beat up by my dogs. I was outside one fight after I got off so it was like 2 in the morning, I was tired and on the phone with my b/f letting him know that I made it home okay. My babies were running around the yard like they always do when I let them out. Usually I pay attention but this night I was so so tired, just as I turned away Toester, Hershie and Onyx came running at me at full speed and I didn't have time to react. Toester ran right into me and knocked me to the ground. I fell face first into the dirt with the most pain I've ever felt in my legs. I thought they might have been broken. So it takes Toester a minute to get it together then they come over to me while I'm still laying on the ground calling for help Onyx steps on me hand and Toester sticks her nose in my ear as I my head Hershie and I bump heads. So now I'm on the ground in the dirt at 2 am with both legs, one hand and my head killing me. I finally get up and stumble in the house and just fall out on the chair, about 5 minutes my b/f comes knocking on the door and helps me into bed. They next morning my knees were still hurting and I had a huge bruise on my head. A couple of days later my legs turned black to. Lesson learned..NEVER take your eyes off then until they calm down

If you want a dog who eats things you can have Thor for a little while. Every other minute I'm chasig aftet him to get something out of his mouth. If Pippin is that good maybe he can show Thor a thing or two....Or Thor could show him how to really chew things ::)

I love to help but I've been told I'm not good with names. Lets see I've had Toester-my Dane, Thor-Dane, Krayzie (crazy)-a bosont terrier, Stinky and Dribbles-Lab mixes, Tiny-Dane mix, Snowball-a black lab mix, I could go on and on I've had so many dogs but names are just mot my thing.

We have two of the colossal crates 54" and Onyx in still in a 48" and my little dog Hershie who about two years ago was my big dog is in a 36 but as soon as Onyx gets her 54 Hershie can have that one so he'll have a little more room. I cleaned out the guest room and put Toester and all my other dogs 36" crates in there but when we got the two 54's and working on the third the room is not big enough so I put them outside and the only time they go into then is when they eat. There's usually always someone here so we just put up baby gates and keep them in the room with us. I supposed to be moving out (away from mommie) this year or early next year so I'll make sure I have a room big enough for at least three 54 crates maybe more. ;D
